Here I am playing Red Dead on my series X and I'm still in awe a few hours later. I never played it before but still, it looks fantastic.

Now I was going to start jedi order or one of the old batman games. But maybe I should just build a PC?

Worth it? I want that 4k/60fps on everything now on my 77cx. I think that experience alone made me a graphics snob lol

Yes, but not in that way. MS's policy of everything coming to PC made me realize that investing in Xbox as an ecosystem felt pointless. I normally just buy whatever "the most powerful console" is and make that my main platform but the One X/Series X being what they are and not having any exclusives just made me go further into PC gaming.

If you do, I'd sell the XSX quick while you can still recoup all costs. Unless you keep it around for BC purposes or something. I still have a One X for that; zero reason for me to get a XSX since I have a beastly gaming PC.

Well I still may keep for some multiplayer titles. Don't want to compete with mouse users

If you're buying Microsoft's games or services on a Windows PC, you're in their "ecosystem". The entire point of Microsoft bridging all Xbox first-party games and stuff to PC, was specifically to more widely distribute what the "Xbox ecosystem" means in the first place.

They know it'll cost them some console sales, and they don't care.

As to the OP - if you already have the Series X, I'm not sure why you'd decide to build a PC now. If someone had just upgraded their PC for gaming, then getting the Series X makes less sense. Also keep in mind if you're on Game Pass that the experience is much better on console than it is on Windows, where the Windows/Xbox store and management stuff there is... sub-optimal... still.

I've got a gaming PC and a Series X (and a PS5) specifically because I like the living room experience and simplicity of a console sometimes, and I don't want to set up my PC in the living room.

Red Dead is 30fps just in case you didn't realise. I wouldn't bother building a PC right now given the prices snd the fact you've already got a Series X. Also keep in mind that stuff like surround sound and HDR on PC can be annoying compared to console.

Join them. ;-)

tbh if you're doing comfy couch ONLY then stick with the Xbox for now. Components are too scarce and difficult to obtain at the moment, it's really not worth doing (imo) unless you're going to take full advantage of what the platform offers.

Nope. I work all day on my PC. I like having my games cordoned off on a separate machine, optimized for games, so I can walk away from my work machine for playtime, and leave my PC uncluttered. (Not to mention sidestep most quirks that can arise when playing PC games/getting into settings and compatibility. My free time is too limited right now to enjoy tweaking.)

I also have a large library of OG Xbox/360/One games. So my Series X is like a nice jukebox full of my favorite games, not taking up space on my PC, which as a video editor, even with massive storage, always seems to be at a premium.

Theres also the factor of GamePass. And while the PC selection is shaping up, it's still better on the console side.

Almost the exact opposite for me. The series x gives me an experience close enough to pc that I don't really feel the need to upgrade my pc again.

Yup. This. Sitting on a couch is really underrated. And my tv outputs better visual quality than my monitor

Honestly, Xbox One X increased my interest in console gaming. With fewer compromises in Xbox versions of games, I was finally able to enjoy modern games on my TV without dealing with the quirks of PC gaming. Xbox Series X took that even further.

I was thinking of upgrading my gpu but the prices are insane right now. Now I'm thinking I'll just stick to the original plan of picking up a console.

My Series X has made me even less interested in PC gaming than I was before, actually. I feel like I'm getting in on half the action already.

Same for me with both the Series X and PS5. Cyberpunk is the only game that's given me pause, since the next-gen updates aren't available yet.

The new consoles made me less interested in PC gaming because, forgetting about the whole scalping situation, they actually have good prices for the hardware , whereas PC seems like a massive money sink, for somewhat better performance to go with the extra headaches that pc gaming would have compared to console gaming.

I'm kinda upset to have ended up with a 3090 because I only wanted to have a modest PC and try to spend more time on console.

Was thinking about building a new PC next year but I'm reconsidering that with the Series X for now. It is actually quite a good price for the hardware and you don't gotta deal with all the hassle that comes with PC gaming sometimes.

Right now I'm satisfied with the performance I'm getting on my Series X and don't really see the need to sink the money into a PC right now for somewhat better performance and M&KB control.

Obviously people have different interests, and many just want big name AAA games, but I always like to remind people that PC gaming isn't just for playing console-style games with better performance. There's also a million PC exclusive games out there that offer really great and unique experiences that you'd never see on consoles, especially when it comes to indie and "AA" games.

You are absolutely correct. I have played a ton of greats you can't get on console. I didn't mean to undermine other benefits to PC gaming. Just citing a couple of them was all. I love PC gaming and have been for the last few years but I just can't really justify building a new one right now.

^^^ Can't agree more. You aren't going to catch me spending to get my pc on par withy ps5. There's a ton of games on pc that aren't on console and a bunch of other benefits.

You'd be forgiven for thinking the only reason to play on pc is (slightly?!) better graphics with the way people talk about it.

Mods and cheats/trainers are like half the argument for getting into PC gaming by themselves. I actually feel like I'm getting more value out of the games I buy because I can circumvent a lot of the bullshit that's crept into modern gaming. I don't have to spend pointless hours farming items or grinding levels for example. It's a godsend.

I'm planning on getting an upgraded PC next year for hopefully graduate school and just in general, but I'm interested in the Series consoles to have something to make GPU work with. Like I think it'd be nice to be able to play something on PC and continue on the couch seamlessly. Or take/leave a Series S at my Mom's place for when I'm there on extended stays. I have a 65 inch x900e so I want high visual fidelity which means Series x would be ideal even though the sensibility would be to get a Series S for the couch experience and just as a GamePass machine. But yeah, my frames and resolution ..

Not really. No PCs in this household, last one was 2006 I think lol. Just a bunch of laptops suitable for a lot of other things though and moveable. Games could be one of them but why when you have easy to use consoles in a much more comfortable viewing and sitting experience downstairs.

Yes! I had NO IDEA what I was missing until I got a One X. Sadly the enhancements were very limited in quantity but were enough to get me to explore PC.

And here I am today with PC as my primary platform thanks to the One X.

Also this:

Mods are AMAZING. I finally learned how to play From games thanks to mods/trainers on PC. Plus it removes grinding for money/XP in many games.

No. If anything the opposite occurred. New more powerful consoles that also have a good focus on BC made it that much easier to stay away from getting a new rig.

still mostly prefer convenience of console, but its getting much easier to get console like tv experience with a pc too.

if you already have a decent pc, an upgrade for 3070 will cost you same as series x, and will leave it in dust further into the gen, considering rt+dlss etc. so i can see the appeal.

No. I've moved away from pc gaming as prices have gone up. There was a time I preferred pc with the modding and tinkering it used to provide(it's not the same these days) but as I've gotten older I just don't want to deal with the hassle that comes with it. I might build a new gaming pc in the future but right now it's not a priority. Game pass is superior on the Xbox and that keeps me more than busy enough.

My XSX exists almost solely as an alternative to getting my PC in my living room. I can't find a good solution so this works for me for those Gamepass games at least.

PC gives higher frames and best version of game. Always keep a good rig to play latest games but its expensive.

PC *can* give higher frames and best version. You need to have the right specs for that and adjust your settings. Biggest annoyance for me is too many options. I don't want them taken away for those that like them, but I'd prefer the game to be smart enough to benchmark my hardware and let me choose 'graphics' or 'framerate' like I can do on an XSX and the game works the rest out.

There is no such thing as 'use these settings for X framerate' - at least not without leaving performance on the table by choosing worst case settings. They need to be dynamic for best results and I really hope PC games get better at that.

I never face these issues because i have always used high- mid range cards. Ultra or high setting at 1440p is more than enough for me.

For me, it cooled my desire for an upgraded PC. Was considering upgrading my PC for $2k (that would probably need an another upgrade in a couple of years) or getting a console for $500. Got the XSX and feel that I don't need a PC for a good while. I might upgrade my PC when DDR5 memory starts enetering the market. I have also not yet been spoiled by 4K/60fps yet, so I'm fine with my current setup.

Actually, if your goal is to play older games at 4K/60, you might be good with a mid-end PC.

I don't like playing new stuff on PC because it's always riddled with performance issues, but it's nice to use modern hardware to brute force old games.

As a 9900k/RTX3080 owner, PC gaming can be truly glorious but it can also be a pain. It's nowhere near as convenient as your XSX and you'll miss a ton of those UI/QoL features.

Also in terms of performance, as much as I love the native 4k/60+ on PC, the unavoidable shader compilation stutters in so many titles are my worst enemy and something that is never an issue on console.

Also Game Pass is just way better on console, at it's so much more fun and convenient to browse and easily install and launch the games from the couch on XSX.

Best thing about PC is that you're in control - you can choose the resolution, framerate or graphical settings to your exact preferences without being at the mercy of the developer. And you can play games like Dead Space at 4k/60 without needing the developer to make a patch.

That said, I do love my gaming PC. And I have it set up nicely with Playnite launcher for couch gaming. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't spend more time tweaking than playing actual games on it, and whilst it's good for a geek like me who grew up with computer gaming on C64/Amiga/486 etc, I wouldn't recommend it to any friends IRL.

Edit: Also Quick Resume is a huge game changer on XSX. Immortals is a great example - takes over 2 minutes on PC to get in to the game with all the Ubi bloat - splash screens, checking for additional content, loading etc. On XSX in less than 10 seconds I'm right back where I left off.

It made me less interested.

I have a PS5 and I'd far rather get a series X for $500 than build a $1200 PC that won't perform any better, and I'd have to deal with Windows, drivers, steam, and multiple other launchers, issues getting wireless controllers working.

Yeah, I'd imagine this is likely the case for a lot of folks. Had I not simply always preferred playing on consoles over my PC, I'd probably have sat out the actual Xbox hardware this generation since every first party title is coming to PC, and through Game Pass at that.

If you're someone who doesn't have a strong preference for the console experience over the PC experience, the Xbox is not really an essential platform this generation so long as your PC is up to snuff and can play the games that are coming down the pipe. Hell, even folks who maybe want to experience the console versions of those titles along with the PC versions can just opt for the Series S and play the PC versions when they want to push the boat out on visuals and performance.

It's a really fascinating strategy that Microsoft has going, and while I may not totally agree with some of it in totality, it's certainly something that has never been attempted before.

If anything, it made me feel the opposite. Since I can play every 1st party Microsoft game on my PC, I have no desire to ever get an Xbox going forward.

This has been a huge debate amongst my friends. I've gone from dominantly PC to mainly on consoles now. I've had tons and tons of issues on PC gaming where I'd spend more time tinkering vs playing.

And now with the SSD, instant resume, and enhanced BC with games - all at $500. Too hard to beat.

My PC is 5 years old and in order to take advantage of any new card I'd need at least a new mobo and processor - which is one of the most expensive pieces.

I will build a PC eventually but for now consoles are the way to go.

I was already interested in PC gaming as I had a good one and upgraded. MS acquisitions finally giving them IP like Doom I would be interested in gave me interest in getting Game Pass. I downloaded a few things for the backburner but when a follow-up to Doom Eternal, Prey, and essentially the cream of the Zenimax crop comes out I'm set. A good PC being the best Xbox is the best part of their strategy, for me at least as in the console space I already favored Sony and Nintendo.
