One thing that's peculiar to me is the number of people that took Kojima's cryptic posting on the Last of Us 2 as "confirmation" that he didn't like the game and haven't even considered the idea that maybe his opinion is the opposite of that.
Since TLOU2 in some ways is similar to Death Stranding in terms of being a divisive game that puts a huge question mark on the use of violence as a crutch for video games, in general, both games are almost like two sides of the same coin. Perhaps Kojima just was just stating that the flipped option of a similar idea he delivered that rated better with games media may be more effective at letting some people feel that huge question mark that some game makers have left for them.
TLOU2 is clearly more critically acclaimed by games media then Death Stranding, and disliked by what appears to be a vocal minority (based on the stratospheric sales of the game) Perhaps this duality in reception feels familiar to Kojima and is seen by him as confirmation for his belief (wrong or right) that "Americans are too dumb, too closed minded or both to enjoy intellectual games that criticize or eschew violence" and applied that thought to his comment on TLOU2.
Why do so many people seem to ASSUME that that is an impossibility?
Why would Kojima take the time to highlight a game he didn't like for any reason? Does Kojima have a history of doing that (outside of Konami games.) To point people towards a piece of content or even infer an unclear idea in pointing out a specific game for anyone pick up, even as a "joke", does more to steer people towards the picking up the game rather then away from it. (seems pretty obvious)
