The movie Elf explicitly states that elfs learn to make microprocessors...

That's my Christmas canon.

I mean, did anyone here actually believe there really existed a Little Red Riding Hood and a wolf at any point in your life? lol
These were stories told to me as just that. Stories in a book. Santa was a fiction made real by the work of my parents and other cooperating adults.

My ten year old still believes. She's pretty internet savvy too. They'll believe if they want to believe. Same with elves and fairies. They compartmentalise and forget stuff. Being a kid is a busy lifestyle you can't keep up with all the shit going on.

I think I kinda just figured Santa either had connections or used magic. I did figure it out very early on, though.

I believed the elves and such were making the toys and whatever.

They're magic, they can easily reproduce electronics and brand name goods.

I had a similar revelation when I was six. I had watched a Santa Clause based film, can't remember which for Christmas Eve and it showed elves making shit in the North Pole. Then in the morning the first present I opened was a Dino-Rider toy, on the side of the box said "Made in China". I questioned this with my dad in front of my sister, my step sisters and my cousins who were around on the same day. My stepmother beat the shit out of me for it and banned me from Christmas for the next 2 years.

Wow, that's a bit much.

I would have just believed or told others who asked that the elves wish to reproduce items exactly as they are so if the one you buy in the shops says 'Made in China' or whatever then the elves will make it say that on theirs too.

I didn't have a concept of what was/wasn't possible for elves or Santa to create. Then in that mid period between believing and not believing, I assumed he just purchased these popular things because a lot of people would want them.

No, but I did thank Jesus when I opened my genesis. He could definitely make a gaming console.

I figured it out around 8 I think. I noticed Santa's handwriting was exactly like my moms on the notes we'd write each other.

My son is 10 now and still believes in Santa and The Elf on the Shelf, he really enjoys it so I've always went above and beyond to play along. I'm honestly shocked no kid has spoiled it for him, or that he hadn't searched for the answer. Maybe he has and just thinks the presents end when he find out. He's a pretty honest kid though, I think he would have asked me about it.

I don't really understand the big deal about "lying" about it. It's harmless fun, kids will have plenty of time to be miserable when they're older and all of the magic is gone from Christmas. I wasn't mad when I figured it out, meh.

It was always tradition in my family to open mom and dad's presents on Christmas Eve, and Santa came Christmas morning. I've continued doing that with mine, it's just another thing to look forward to.
I was around 8-10 when I figured it out by stumbling upon a computer hidden under the stairs. And in those days it was the massive monitor kind, so not easy to hide.

Shortly after Christmas, a girl in my class told my table all about sex/porn etc. I was curious, looked it all up on the computer at home, obviously didn't know how to delete the search history (I dread to think what it was, thankfully I've blocked it out of my memory), my mother found the history and banned me from the computer until close to the time I started secondary school (11 turning 12).

Figured the elves pulled off elaborate heists of goods during transit like the DVD players in the first Fast and the Furious movie. So when you get that Game Boy you are actually an unwilling participant in the illegal trafficking of stolen goods.

Merry Christmas!

I don't ever remember believing in Santa. Maybe it's just because I was too young to remember or the idea that Christmas was only about Jesus.

Yes, and my parents explained it away with the same way they explained everything away with Santa - MAGIC!

How does Santa get in if we don't have a chimney? "He uses magic to shrink himself down and then enters through the roof vent!"

How do elves make video games? "They use magic to make the parts they need to assemble!"

I fucking hate that my parents did this shit because it led to me believing in Santa right up until 4th grade, when everyone else had accepted the truth years before so it made me look like a baby lol

I've already told my wife that the second our daughter asks if Santa is real, I'm totally laying the truth on her.

My brother and I found out pretty young and then made a pact not to tell our parents we knew because we wanted to keep the gravy train going as long as possible. Also, I guess, we both knew it was pretty important at the time for our parents to believe we believed in Santa.
lol, my kids did this exact same thing to me and my wife when we went to tell them the truth about Santa.

They were both all "yeah, we know, we like getting presents though"

So it was us getting conned the whole time!

No, I assumed the story of Santa was like any fairytale (Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Goldilocks).

I mean, did anyone here actually believe there really existed a Little Red Riding Hood and a wolf at any point in your life? lol
This, I don't think any kid around here truly believed here but it's a fun story and folklore to tell, same way Greek Mythology or campfire stories, urban legends, or local folklore here in Scotland.

Like in Scotland their's folklore about a Fey species/household spirits named Broonies, similar to Hobgoblins that if you leave out a bowl of milk or cream, will help clean your house during the night, but if your lazy or expect them to due all the work, will prank you and teach you a lesson in responsibility or just leave if they feel not appreciated.

Or the Pixie festival around the Cornwall and Devon area.

Very few people believe in it, same with say Gnomes, Red caps, pixies etc, but their still fun, it's fun to fantasise, it's fun to create stories and fantasy like it would any story for the media or for fun. And for me personally, I like reading up into the the lores and folklores or different people because it's fascinating to see the origins of beliefs and tales.

Like Goldilocks you mentioned, she's actually a more recent addition of the tale (and is supposed to be the actual antagonist), it earlier versions, it was either a fox named Scrapefoot who broke into the bears castle or an Old woman (who in this version the bears aren't a family, just bachelors) who in one versions is impaled on St Paul's Cathedral at the end.

Or Riding Hood and how the Huntsman is a new addition to give the story a happy ending or how Snow White MIGHT have actually been real, with it debated the story of Snow White being based on the real life story of Maria Sophia von Erthal or Margaretha von Waldeck as well as taking ques and ideas from the story of Chione from Ovid's Metamorphoses. You'd be surprised how long complex the evolution of Santa as he is now was (note like how Father Christmas and Santa ARE NOT the same person).

Let people have fun, like Halloween, stories about elves, flying sleighs and magical body shifting abilities (personally always liked it more when Santa is also a "Jolly old elf").

Nah my parents told us they bought the expensive stuff and Santa got us the smaller stuff. They didn't like "Santa" taking credit for shit like a PS1 or N64.

I never believed in Santa or elves.

However, I was convinced there was some kind of magic or trickery parents could some how tap into and that perhaps Santa was a cover for this. My brothers and reached this conclusion because we would comb the house for gift hiding spots to no avail. Nonetheless in that maybe 4 hour window that we actually slept all gifts would appear. If it was a large play set i.e. the Super Powers Hall of Justice it was fully assembled with decals applied.

Related but I feel like the folklore of Father Christmas is better than the folklore of Santa Claus.

Farther Christmas is a spirit or a magician (some versions say he turns to stone after the Christmas season and becomes alive again for time of the next one) who rides a yule goat and wears long robes and a crown made of Holly wreath on his head who feeds stray animals and goes to the homes of the poor and the sad/depressed to cheer them up with music, food and drink he brings (Pudding, Mince pies, roast beef, plump goose, roast chicken and Ale), dancing and generally being caring and jolly along with his Children Roast Beef/Sir Loin and Plum Pudding.

I think that's a better story to tell and has a more important message about caring for others. Plus if that sound familiar, it's because it's who The Ghost of Christmas Present is based on from a Christmas Carol.

Parts Unknown.
Yes the elves make them in Santa's sweatshop. Santa chains them to their work stations, beats them mercilessly, and only feeds them when and if their quotas are met.
