Huh... that's odd. RE2 had the "microstutters" for me, too - probably had a dozen of them in my entire 10 hour playthrough. Sometimes it would just "pause" for a fifth of a second; other times it would do as you say and drop to 40 fps or so... but truly, for no longer than like 1 second. Super distracting, yes... but didn't ruin the gameplay experience at all. And clearly the result of something other than the "graphics," as the exact same scene rendering the exact same thing would bump right back up.

What kind of storage do you have? I have a slow-by-modern-standards SATA3 SSD and I sometimes wonder if it's that.
I usually install games to my second SSD, which is also a sata3 ssd (mx500). The stuttering with RE 2 seems to be pretty common so maybe it's an engine thing.

Coming off RE2, DMC5's performance is actually a little disapointment for lower end hardware. I mean this is at roughly default settings, 1366x768 with 50% resolution scaling
It's not maxing out the GPU and not reaching 60
BzuBVJg.png

What's more curious, is that after reducing to 320x200, it's still not doing 60
wyeJbyP.png

RE2 was more demanding yet didn't have this kind of behaviour. Although I'll admit I was happy with mid 20s to mid 40s with RE2

Try using the denuvo less exe.

What? Looks amazing on my tv! I have an x900e with local dimming though.

I set the luminance to max much like RE2 and the dark/light balance aka "paper white" to 155 and it's a very balanced picture.

Make sure you have HDR enabled via windows.
The colors are washed out. Looks much better on sd. It's RE2R all over again.

On my TV it recognizes the hdr mode (lg Oled b7). But the black is Grey and the red in the main menu is so colorless. How can I adjust the hdr?

So does the game just freeze when you do anything with steam? I pressed F12 to take a screenshot and it stopped accepting any input and I had to force close it :(

Game runs butter smooth maxed out at 1080p, minus a few slowdowns during some cutscenes. Not using the denuvo-less exe either.
Really impressed with how it looks and how well it runs on mid-range machines. Game is also amazing.

Use the denuvo free .exe i have the same system besides an 970, ive got gains up to 10-15fps.

I guess 1080p 120fps on LG OLED TVs cannot be combined with HDR because of HDMI bandwidth? As soon as I raise the refresh rate, the image becomes washed out. Is there a way to force SDR in this game?

Anybody suffering from random crashes? I've encountered 3 so far with no indication what's going on, and at different sections. Latest Nvidia drivers installed, running in DX11.

Is it safe for Steam? Does it work with RE2 as well?

Yes and no, respectively.

Ta, added.

is the exe still available? where can I get it?

Tips and tricks:
...
Remove Denuvo: Replace the game's executable with this one.

I've read a little, it seems I shouldn't have problems with my gtx 970 right? @1080p
That's what I'm running and it's usually fine with everything maxed though there are spots where ultra FX quality might be causing big frame drops and stutters.

I've also had cutscene sync issues in some cases but I don't know if that's my settings.

If you drop a few settings you should be very smooth a huge percentage of the time.

Sorry if answered, but do we know which settings have the biggest performance impact? I'm right on the cusp of a locked 120fps here but don't want to turn off anything that I don't need to graphics wise since the game looks so good.

By the way not a single crash for me, heh. Running nvidia 411.70 drivers on a regular moderately overclocked 1070 paired with a highly overclocked 2500K.

Everyone set your frame rate to 60fps instead of variable! For some reason variable seems to act fucked up in RE engine games.
Yeah, when I first started RE2, just turning the camera was feeling very janky, I think it was the first time I felt what seemed to be framepacing issues at 60fps. Switched from Variable to 60 to see if that was it, and everything was perfectly smooth. So I assume it was indeed framepacing issues with variable framerate being limited only through vsync.

A lot of the settings seem to have a much bigger impact on cutscenes than gameplay, both for performance and visuals. Go nuts turning whatever you want down, you've already watched the cutscenes anyway.

The games run at a locked 60 at 2560x1440 (apart from cutscenes) with 65/70% of GPU utilization with the following settings:

Borderless window (the game doesn't work if i select full screen)
Texture: ultra
Texture filtering: ultra
Mesh quality: ultra
AA: fxaa+taa
Motion blur: variable
Effects and shadows quality: high
Shadows cache: test
AO: SSAO
Bloom: yes
Lens flare: yes
Lighting: high
Reflections and translucency: variable

Hmm this is so weird, the colors are like perfect on mine. I wouldn't call them overly vibrant but black levels are black where they are supposed to be and the colors are very realistic and detailed. Maybe you just like vibrancy more than realism? The black level thing is strange though. I'm getting pure black on mine. Make sure your HDMI black levels are set to auto. If the games rgb levels are set to full and your tv to limited it will raise the black levels.

I'm not sure what to tell you with your tv though, seems very very odd.

Volumetric lighting, Shadows & HBAO+ are the most demanding.

I was about 7 months behind forgetting that i disabled them awhile ago....

lxMTIeF.gif

No shame in that, I keep my gaming laptop on a metered connection setting and manually run updates once every 2, 3 months :p

also, apologies to jett but this game seems incredibly well optimized. No stuttering in game play and minor stuttering in cut-scenes (but that's because I'm running the game at 130% resolution scale and everything is on High).

RE2's RPD main hall still has minor stutters for me, which Capcom seemingly will never fix but this game is either better optimized or less taxing on the hardware outside of cut-scenes.

The game is running incredibly well for me on my old-arse PC (i7-4770k, 16 GB RAM, GTX 980 Strix, Win 10). 60 fps locked during gameplay with some dips to the low 50s in more demanding cutscenes - but I wouldn't have noticed if not for the FPS counter. I play at 1080p with settings nearly maxed out. Ultra textures, high shadows, HBAO+. Only volumetrics are set to low. I'm still on 398.82 nvidia drivers as I only update those when I have a very specific reason to and no recent games I've played seem to do badly on this driver. I have my system on a Samsung Pro SSD and the game on a second Samsung EVO SSD.

Edit: I'm running default DX12 and the shitty Denuvo .exe

The game forces it's to play on window mode whenever the game loads my sava data. Borderless Windows works but full screen option doesn't do anything unless I lower resolution and sometimes will go full screen when switching back to 1920x1080

The game runs very smoothly for me, but every 15 seconds or so during combat it locks up for about 2-3 seconds, turns into a slide show, and I lose control of the character, before returning to normal. I'm going to read through the thread now, is this specific thing a common issue?

2700x / 2080 / 16GB DDR4 / etc...

It's on an M.2 drive.

Everything maxed, 1440 Full screen. Vsync off, Gysnc on.

Everything is default in terms of the .ini.

I've updated the .exe to the one without the DRM.

Newest drivers.

Is there a specific fix for this, or is it a matter of going through all the settings including trying DX11? It's unplayable in this current state.

Everything maxed out, 4k. Runs at a locked 60 fps at all time, with some slowdowns around 45fps during some heavy cutscenes. They are all usually sticking to 60fps for the most part, or very close to it (53-55fps) in more demanding shots.

Forgive me if this has all been covered, but is it possible the brief moments of slowdown are being caused by the online component?

I was heavily downloading while playing before and experiencing what I described a few posts up. I paused all downloads and tried again and played for 30 mins without a single instance.

Last night I was streaming the game and having the issue occur, and when I stopped streaming it seemed to stop.

I've not got time to properly test it right now.

Curious if anyone here had noticeably worse performance in mission 7. Have been running the game at a consistent 60+ fps aside from some stutters, but there was a moment in mission 7 where it was running at about 50fps.

You might be on to something there. I've disabled the online mode for the game when the option first popped up as I have no interest in it, at least for now.

I'm getting the same thing game doesn't work in fullscreen. Shelving this until they put up a patch.
That can't be possible. I'm running the game exclusive full screen right now. What resolution are you trying to run? The only thing I've noticed is that it doesn't seem to like custom resolutions. But the game has internal resolution scaling so you have no reason to use a custom resolution.

I'm going to assume this game is decently CPU intensive, or something. Have some combat encounters where the game hovers in the 50-55fps range on an i5-4690, GTX 1080, 1440p, ultra settings.

i gotta get a new processor

So, I ran the game for half an hour again with no downloading and 0 issues.

I ran the game with heavy downloads and the stutters happened again.

I need to run the test a few more times to be sure (which I'll do tomorrow), has anyone else tested this to see if it stops the issue?

This specific issue being brief moments of slowdown where the framerate tanks for 2-3 seconds and you lose control of your character.

You might be on to something there. I've disabled the online mode for the game when the option first popped up as I have no interest in it, at least for now.

I need to test it some more to be sure, but this might be what's causing it for me after two 30 minute tests with no downloads/streams and no isssues.

There is no option. The fix so far though is just to alt-tab out the game and go back in. Once the game comes back in focus, HDR is turned off in the game. Atleast for me.
Can confirm, this basically fixed it for me. Playing with controller, went into graphics and went from windowed back to full screen and the forced HDR was off. Funny enough, my PC's input to my TV isn't a port that supports the bandwidth for HDR, nor is Windows HDR enabled, yet it enables anyways, weird.

So i got 2 crashes tonight with this error: "GPU device instance has been suspended. Use GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine the appropriate action". I have been playing without any issues since Friday.

Coincidence or not, both times i was playing with V with all the summons out.

I can get a solid 60fps with everything cranked to the max on a 2080, but yesterday everything just collapsed into a slideshow when the network features (which I still don't understand) were turned on.

I don't know what's up with the GPU benchmarks, but on my system the lowest dips I saw were still above 100+ FPS outside of cutscenes, at 1440p max settings.

Ryzen 5 1400 @ 3.8GHz, 16GB 3200Mhz/CL14 DDR4, Vega 56 @ 1650/950

Game runs like a dream! Should note this is with the denuvo-less .exe using DirectX11. I actually had to cap my FPS 'cause I was getting shots above 160FPS where I saw tearing...
