I was hoping for better reviews but sounds like some of these critics were just simply lost with regards to pokemon
I really don't get why critics who have no interest in the Pokemon IP, review a movie about Pokemon...

It's their job. lolI really don't get why critics who have no interest in the Pokemon IP, review a movie about Pokemon...
It does feel like it to me. It sounds strongly of "I don't get pokemon so I don't get this".Some of these reviews feel like they expected Pokémon to be different?
Shaking out about how I thought it would.
Impressions from early screenings suggest audiences might like it a bit more than critics.
How could you make this movie appeal to non-Pokemon fans though. It does feel like it to me. It sounds strongly of "I don't get pokemon so I don't get this".
Which is a fine criticism to be honest.
Yeah the actual reviews are positive, this would easily be 80% or so on RT lol.I feel like a lot of you are coming in here and looking at the number without actually reading any reviews.
"Needs more of the human element"How could you make this movie appeal to non-Pokemon fans though.
The designs are being praised the most.Always thought it would be absolute garbage. Dunno what ERA saw in it. The designs are soooooo bad and disturbing. The jokes were the absolute worst.
The burden of making the uniniated audience engaged to the said material fell unto the movie, not the audience. And this movie doesn't seem to bother to do so and just assume everyone is already into Pokemon.I really don't get why critics who have no interest in the Pokemon IP, review a movie about Pokemon...
It's not surprising that so much of the humor in "Detective Pikachu" relies on previous knowledge of the monsters that populate it, but it does grate that those jokes are so one-note. What's the gag about Cubone? He's sad, dramatic, cries a lot, wears his mother's skull as a hat. That's it. That's the joke.

This quote from Indiewire is weird, it reads to me like they think there's a joke there but there actually isn't and it's just a Cubone
They're judging it as a film, not 2 hours of fanservice for people already into the IP.I really don't get why critics who have no interest in the Pokemon IP, review a movie about Pokemon...
No one in those reviews are saying it's "absolute garbage".Always thought it would be absolute garbage. Dunno what ERA saw in it. The designs are soooooo bad and disturbing. The jokes were the absolute worst.
You're really missing the point.Really, I can't find any praise for that drugged Charizard and creepy as hell Jigglypuff.
Who says its grabage, and the desings and effects are being praised almost by all critics.
Less in-jokes? I dunno. I guess it needed to be as good as Zootopia and it's not.How could you make this movie appeal to non-Pokemon fans though.
The sort of reviewer who would insist on putting "bodyslam" in a headline about any story involving professional wrestling."It seems that this particular game of Pokémon needed more time at the gym. Yes, that's a "Pokémon Go" reference, and if you can't follow it, don't bother."
What.
What.
Why do a reference if you... you don't understand the reference.
Ah, so you just want it to be bad and didn't read any of the reviews. That explains it.Really, I can't find any praise for that drugged Charizard and creepy as hell Jigglypuff.
Seems to be reviewing very well so far. Waiting on the RT score.
I think this is going to do well regardless of critical reception, as long as it isn't completely and utterly awful.Could still do well. A lot of Pokemon fans dating back to 1998
