I don't think there will be any song untouched, like, this is a remake, at least they are going to re-record stuff and it will be different on some way.

To those hoping some songa not be changed, they will be. I think they will have new versions of each songs. It won't exactly be the same as the original and that is completely fine.

The pauses in the original give it an eerie uneasiness. The new version is less weird.

I understand that the game is a remake, but the music is one aspect that didn't need to change, as it was already mostly live recorded orchestral.

The pauses are important to the original piece of music.

This is why the original version should be preserved alongside the remake.

I don't like the pauses when I'm just listening to it through youtube but in the Nexus the pauses felt different because of the ambient sounds. I thought they really fit the mood of the Nexus. I don't think I can make a judgement until I've heard the new one in the Nexus for a couple of minutes.

Thank goodness it sounds so much better now, OG had some good melodies, but it was cheapened by low quality recordings.

It's hard to detach the music of the original from our memories. If you had heard the original song without having played the game you'd be hard pressed to really get a feel for it. The remake obviously has a different mood and atmosphere to the original so I'll wait to hear how it sounds in the game.

This seems a little busy but I do like it. The quietness of the original lent itself well to the atmosphere of The Nexus.

i feel like this sums up bluepoint - adding and adding. the SOTC remake for example filled in a lot of blanks that imo removed a lot of the atmosphere of the original. i'm still excited for this though.
BluePoint's artistic choices have always been iffy. Like adding a bunch of unnecessary sound effects to SotC's intro. At least they didn't touch the music of that game.

Should be noted that the source is that its a dumped soundtrack from the game that sony uploaded to the server, but its only the PS5 home screen track (rest of the files are still encrypted) rather than the in game track, so it might be a variation specific to that rather than the soundtrack that plays in the game.

On that note, this has Miles Morales's home screen music as well:

Spider-Man sounds awesome.

I like the original better. The pauses are a little too long, but add so much to it. The new one sound almost cinematic and overproduced killing its simplicity.

agreed. i'm still excited to see how this will turn out though, but i'm glad the original exists and runs okay via emulation on pc given the lack of bc.

The pauses in the original made it very hard to listen to outside of the game, though it worked to build atmosphere. I like how the new version teases the main theme at :47. I don't feel strongly either way, it's just a different take.

That was my favorite track in the original.

The pauses are too long in the original.
The remake version sounds absolutely unimpressive and somewhat err.. generic?

I prefer the original. Souls games are about being patient. Surely I can take long pauses in the music.

That is a hard miss. It's like they didn't get the one thing that made the original so good: the pauses.

I like it a lot! And I agree that the new track has an added dose of melancholy to it. It's fitting.

Not a fan. It's too fast and goes for a different mood. It doesn't give me that calm and comfy, yet haunting feeling the original does. Removing the pauses was a bad idea and I don't like the new strings at all.

Wait? Where are people getting these from? PS5 menu screen has audio when you hover over the games, and that needs to be uploaded to Sony's servers?

Fuck. One of my most anticipated things about the remake was hearing this song. And I'm really let down. The long pauses were so good and now it's too busy. Sure hope this is Souls of mist instead of maiden in black as souls of mist doesn't have the pauses

I didn't know they were changing music in this. And I agree that the new version should retain those pauses.

I am hoping this is the way it is because it is the menu music.

The pauses made the nexus feel disconnected and mysterious. It didn't need to feel epic.

So to ask the obvious question, can you select new or old soundtrack?

I definitely don't love it. The silent bits of the original track are what make it. Certainly doesn't bode well for the character creation music (which is a certified classic).
Still, the old soundtrack isn't unmade by this. I'm still very keen on seeing how something like this plays in context.

I think I would like the new one better if the tempo was a bit slower. I like what they added it's just a bit too fast.

New sounds beautiful. Definitely missing the pauses though.

So will the music be effected by the tempest engine too? I presume so, didn't Sony's tech start with music.

The new one is fine, but it loses something for sure. I'm not someone who often really cares about if a remake/remaster updates the OST or makes changes to the core material. The original still exists, of course. This song definitely loses what made it so perfect in the first place though. The long rests were pretty great and most game music doesn't do stuff like that.

Never cared for the pauses tbh, new one is a lot more palatable and just as beautiful.

I really like it. It pushes the tone even further, and without the pauses you actually appreciate the melody more. The original is fine, even though the pauses are bit too long, but I really like where they took it. Again this is a remake but also a re-think and I'm glad the developers are doing what they want with it, this is a new game after all.
