i do so hate all the weird fan fiction y'all write about how strong daddy trump is going to utterly crush feeble ol' joe in the debates, it's like, we get it, y'all think trump is good and cool and smart.

yeah, sure, "no puppet no puppet you're the puppet" guy is gonna clean his clock in a way that literally no one on the democratic field has seemingly been able to in any of the dozen or so debates they've had this far.

So at this rate we're what, 20 years away from the electorate getting to an age where an actual liberal progressive can be elected?
Keep in mind that the vast majority of young voters are tuned out until they get older. The ones that vote now will be in the same place in a decade for the most part, but the ones that don't vote? Well, we can't predict where they'll end up.

I DON'T FUCKING KNOW, BECAUSE THE MAN IS NOT WELL AND HE SHOULDN'T BE PRESIDENT.

The other guy just went on Fox News and did this! Young people and independents like him! WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE EVEN DOING.

So what should happen? Should Bernie have been anointed the nominee?

Bernie dropping out early (compared to last time) and pushing Biden on policy until the convention would do a lot more for the country than attacking the Dem nominee for three more months.

I'm starting to get a much greater appreciation for how unpopular Hillary Clinton really was in some key parts of the electorate. There are places that went for Sanders last time that have swung behind Biden in a big way.

People just really hated her.

Damn this is sad. Bernie was Americas one chance for social democracy. Now it will be all status quo even if Biden beats Trump.
The country is no where near ready for a full on 100% Progressive candidate. We ain't there yet, and won't be for a while. What we can hope and push for is to keep chipping away in social policy and economic policy and make things fairer for everyone..

You're literally advising a small rump of militant socialists try to take everyone else hostage unless you get your way 100% of the time.

You can't be for real

It's crazy.

There are far more self styled "conservative Democrats" in office than self styled "democratic socialists".

People keep forgetting what ideologies comprise Congress and it's exhausting. Moderate Democrats made up a gigantic portion of the blue wave in 2018 and as long as there are more of them than the gap over the Republicans, they could also hold legislation hostage.

Biden didn't beat trump yet, could we get him in there first?

bernie didn't lose by a little he lost by a lot. You can't blame the voters after last week. They don't want to put forth a person who has no chance in the places it matters most.
Matters most? For the general?? I mean, Bernie lost by the largest margins in states that will never go blue in the general for 2020... or for the next few decades, really.

Jesus, stop taking this so personally. It's becoming crystal clear that Bernie is not a candidate the party sees as a leader, not a wholesale rejection of progressive ideals.

This was always the problem with putting too much behind one man. Still is.

You place everything on him and it limits your thinking a bit. When it falls, it seems like the end of the world.

Meanwhile, AOC is in New York espousing everything Sanders is, but with more energy and seemingly more of an ability to "cross the aisle." There's literally proof of what a Sanders-inspired future looks like, and some folk just throw it away.

I get it's hard to see a preferred candidate fall. It's happened to me every election. But if one hopes to see the future, a loss can't be the end of their beliefs or their motivation to fight for them.

If they don't want the republicans to win, maybe they'll need to actually fucking listen to us then. Otherwise, that sucks. I'm done with Democrats using the right like it's some hostage negotiation.

It's a fucking two party system which is the ultimate effect of first past the post. You end up voting for the least worst option or not voting at all (in which case you get to shut the fuck up about politics). And dear god, I get people don't like Biden and they certainly don't trust him, but he's literally running on what will be the most 'left' platform any democratic candidate has ran on since what the fucking 40's? Sanders in that respect has 'won' he's dragged the party kicking and screaming to the left. The house majority is probably enough to ensure that Biden if elected has to keep to the majority (not all because no President gets to stick to all his platform due to the nature of the system) of his platform (which will almost certainly be a nudge further to the left than Biden's current platform)

Huge Bernie guy here but if any of you go Bernie or bust in general election and Trump wins against Biden, remember deep down you have absolutely not even an ounce of moral authority to criticize whatever the unchained Trump admin will do now that they don't have to worry about reelection.

Can you really blame them based on how Sanders and Leftists are being talked about in this very thread? Ever since ST this thread has been mocking and kicking down those of us who dreamed of a better world, don't be surprised if people are turned off the Democratic party because of it.

So, if we weren't fans of Bernie, we don't dream of a different world?

You're not the only scared constituency, unfortunately DSA and Bernie talked a big game about his army, but they never materialized so people are just voting to stop the bleeding

People act like Trump demolished Hillary when he won by the skin of his teeth against one of the most hated candidates ever. Outside of the Internet bubble, people generally like Joe Biden.

I mean..its literally our system.

yes because that literally is the job of congress and when congress passes bills the president generally obeys. The VP might be used to grease the wheels since they are a tie breaker vote for the senate but that's about where it ends.

The ACA got passed because Obama pushed for it to go through. The Trump Wall is a thing because Trump pushed for Congress to make it happen.

The President can't literally make legislation (not counting Executive Orders) but he can greatly corral Congress to pass what he wants since those congressional members will likely be beholden to his coattails come election.

Yet another reason why all primaries should be on the same day. This extended nonsense gives way too much weight to a small amount of states. People in the later states don't have choices whatsoever in the primary.

How do you propose to do a single, nationwide primary in a way that isn't prohibitively expensive for candidates? It would be an insurmountable obstacle for any candidate that wasn't already a household name.

Y'all just don't get it. It's simple math. Biden blows out Bernie. Trumps blows out Biden. Therefore Bernie blows out Trump.

What progressive policy does Biden have? What *any* policy does Biden have? I've listened to most of the debates and all he ever said was "I worked with Obama on something like that before".

This is why each candidate's website should be in the OP. People don't know where to look to find someone's policies.

Yeah I think it would be best for all involved for Bernie to drop out soon. Avoiding the 1v1 debate would also be better for everyone imo

the focus should be more on states like Michigan, where Biden is doing really well, and Trump only took by a hair last time

This outcome is depressing. This country is still going to be backwards on so many issues for at least the next 4 years.

I really wish Bernie reached more older voters. I see now that his focus on calling out the establishment and billionaires at every turn likely hurt him badly with moderate voters. He should've stuck to the policies themselves and drawn attention to how uplifting they could be and stayed away from the negative rhetoric. He also should've published his plans sooner than he did.

you're such a better poster than shit. saying trump is an aggressive presence on stage isnt saying he's 'good' and you were hyper-aware of that fact when making this post
