So with this whole young people not voting thing, are elections in like 10-15 years just going to be ones where 5% of the country actually votes or something? Is there an age threshold where people actually realize, oh shit, I should probably go out and vote?
Homeownership and "oh, the GOP actually IS that bad as The Simpsons says" are both a big deal for getting young people to actually vote.

Privilege is feeling comfort in electing a moderate Dem who stands for nothing but not being as shitty as the other guy. I have personal stakes in real health care reform and Biden will do literally nothing about it. For some of us returning the status quo isn't a solution for any problem. Biden doesn't fix the world for us. Simply removing Trump from office doesn't fix what is wrong with this country.

And damn, its super easy to rile everyone up with their own 'throwing your vote' away rhetoric.
I understand all that. Youre a person who sticks to their morals no matter what. But reality is a thing. And in reality, the Supreme Court exists.

Tonight may be one of the greatest political comebacks in any primary ever. Thank you Jim Clyburn, South Carolina, suburbanites, and black people for making this possible.

I guarantee you Biden will have people by his side who will inch him to more progressive solutions. It may not be as exciting as M4A immediately, but I believe progress can be made.
Thank you for your reassurances. Incrementalism is frustrating however and I do not think it is something we need. The right have swung the pendulum too far to the right, and I say we need to swing it back hard to the left to find a balance. A moderate isn't enough to stop this. If the nation goes with Biden, then this battle will take longer. And not everyone has that much time.

What the hell is she doing?

Taking this train all the way to Milwaukee, baby!!!

(I don't know, we'll find out I guess)

As for the putting-the-old-sweater-back-on analogy, earlier today I was telling someone I used to work with that I don't think it's possible to do that. It's just been made too plain to too many people that the old sweater no longer fits, is itchy, and is kinda ugly. Too many people have seen that government is useful and necessary and not something to be crumpled up and tossed away. All the state-level conservative taxation and funding experiments have been exposed as failures. The robots aren't coming to take our jobs. With all the support from Biden beginning to come from Obama-era officials, it won't be possible to go "back to Obama" either.

So in early 2021 there will be some people who will be agitated about this, like Chris Matthews got about Bernie, but it will pass and a new congress (with Senate) will get to work and the President will sign that backlog of legislation, and then some.

Dear God, please no.

They need to change the debate qualifications
I mean people realize this is likely the package that comes with Biden correct?

Gabbard is going to pounce on the disgruntled base and very likely run third party to try and split the Democratic vote.

Be prepared for the possibility of Gabbard pounding home that the Democratic establishment colluded to keep Bernie from the nomination, and the problem is she won't be wrong.

Trump will be hitting him with fake sexual assault pictures, Hunter Biden propaganda, and the MSM will play right into all the theater while Joe will fumble to November. This is going to be a shitshow.

NBC just interviewed a woman in line at a TX polling place who is minutes from voting...

...and doesn't know who she will vote for yet!

He brought more diversity into the campaign. But his electorate became more diverse because anti-Hillary white/Hispanic voters left it from 2016->2020. Not because he actually gained support with black voters. And that difference is why you have his black voter margins in the south over the past week being a nightmare replay of 2016 for the campaign.

But could Bernie have attracted the black older voters? I don't see how.

I mean, no. That fact doesn't. Your post seemed to indicate that you don't believe in progressives, since you said you were screwed if AOC was the next big representative of the movement. I also took the time to say "If" before "you're a centrist", because I didn't know if you were one or not.

I don't believe in AOC's ability to not generate the exact same kind of following that Bernie currently has, with all the anger and irrational thinking packaged together. That's why I think we're screwed if she ends up the next Bernie.

I don't understand the logic through-line of "Bernie can beat Trump. Biden can't beat Trump. But Bernie can't beat Biden."

If Bernie can't win here he's not going to win in November if Biden can't.

So Biden is going to pick up most of the states Hillary won in the '16 primary....hopefully he shows up in Wisconsin, Michigan, etc.

Pete isn't going anywhere without the black vote. He needs to address his racial issues.

The issues are way overblown here from when the attacks came. Most of his early lack of POC vote was from not knowing who he was, though the media is definitely a self-fulling prophecy. His Douglass plan has been praised by even the farthest of left sources, despite not fulfilling all the issues, clearly. People love Joe, and all I'm saying is that if Pete becomes part of his cabinet, he will have a chance to show his progressive values and hopefully lead the Democrats to where we see our country going. Give Pete some years to get experience in the country and people will start to warm up to him.

While I admire her dedication to her campaign, there is essentially no path to victory for her. After SC it was clear that this is the Biden v Bernie show. The moderates saw this and dropped out to endorse Biden. Warren didn't do the same to endorse Bernie.

This is negatively affecting the candidate who will carry out policy that closely overlaps with her.
I guess Moderates fall in line? Progressives fall in love. Warren voters could've easily abandoned her but they didn't even though she's no longer viable.

Call it what you want, something is seriously wrong with the way he touches women. It's not one or two, he's inappropriately touched a lot of women/girls. Maybe not meant to be sexually, but it's very weird.
I can certainly see that. Creepy Uncle Joe is a thing for a reason.

I've just prosecuted rapes and I've also been (mildly) sexually assaulted, so I'm precise in my use of the term.

Hot take: The talk of a revolution is far more damaging to Bernie than the socialist label.

I've thought this since 2016.

Bernie moved the window left, and that is reflecting in polls too. People just either dont think the time is right, or that he is the right choice vs Trump, the evil incarnate. AOC will have a better go at it.
Bernie's reframing of issues is something I'll be eternally grateful for. Still, tonight is only discouraging at the start. It's not over yet.

Would progressives accept Biden-Warren if it is offered? Or is she tainted for not folding to Bernie?

I turn into a utilitarian when I step into the booth so yeah I'd vote for em. I dislike the idea of Biden as president vs Sanders but it's better than Trump.

Warren should be in a cabinet position. Being a VP is a waste of her talents. If Biden wants a woman VP he should find someone who isn't qualified to run an entire federal agency.

People blaming Warren are acting stupid. Look at her numbers. Even if Bernie were to theoretically gain all of Warren's support, he'd still get blown out. Losing AA by >60% and older voters by >50% are far more pressing issues for Bernie than the few Warren votes he ain't getting.

Even if this was true, absolutely zero progress will be made if Trump is reelected. If Bernie wins the nomination then we can talk, but how is he supposed to beat Trump if Biden clobbers him on Super Tuesday? He needs the youth turnout that doesn't seem to ever come.
