Thats understandable, but I always thought Summer was a little far off considering the usual performances of the two. But yeah, there was nothing stopping Xbox from selling more (Thought a little shy of 1.2 million would be pretty expected) so I can´t pinpoint why it did under a million other than the Xbox One X losing its appeal.
From what I had saw, the One X didnt exactly set the world in fire in Nov/Dec. Esp Dec even though it was cheaper then.
calling the switch current gen is actually consumer fraud.
millions of people bought this underpowered toy and now are left behind in the majestic race for powers and pixels, robbed from the experience of passing their depressingly uninspired evenings in glorious 4k boredom.

And Cyberpunk is a much more appealing setting across the globe instead of western.
Watch them sell a million to Chinese Steam users alone. Especially with more and more high profile games skipping Steam it's a huge! opportunity.

Graphics and power. 3ds and vita were never in the same discussion as their contemporary home console peers, Switch is. It is a legitimate alternative to ps4 and x1.
Question is, will the market prioritize portability to the point where tethered consoles become second choice for the majority. It is possible. Of course this ignores other factors like Nintendo's online etc.
I'm sure it'll do very well, like 10+ million units easily, but you're severely underestimating just how well Rockstar's games sell. RDR 2 will no doubt sell for the rest of the PS4/XB1's lifespan and probably be ported to the PS5/XB2 as well, further helping it to sell who knows how much. Rockstar tends to buck traditional trends with their games
I'm confused why this is a big deal. All that means that the November sells would have been lower, while December would be slightly higher. Does it really make a different?
It makes the comparison to last year's December less favorable. "Only a 4% bump?!" When really it was spread out You need to compare November + December for a good comparison.
Mobile and Console are far more synergistic than cannibalistic. It can only be proven so many times in the data.

Yep. The Earth will be swallowed by the sun, we'll all have self driving cars and maybe someday we'll get Half-Life 3. On a long enough timeline, just about anything is plausible.
It's good enough to play some of the best-selling games of 2017, and 2018 ... some of them exclusively.
I don't know Mat, we went from 154 M DS + 82 M PSP to 73 M 3DS + whatever Vita finally sold (10-15?). I think there's a reason why the 3DS is the least successful Nintendo handheld despite having a great catalog and no Sony competition.

2018 surely didn't suggest any decline (though my guess is that 2019 will).
PS4 was slightly down YoY while XBO was slightly up.
SNES total hardware sales divided by regions:
Japan - 17.17 million units
Americas - 23.35 million units
Others - 8.58 million units
Total - 49.10 million units
N64 hardware sales divided by regions:
Japan - 5.54 million units
Americas - 20.63 million units
Others - 6.75 million units
Total - 32.93 million units
Between SNES and N64 hardware sales declined by 4.55M abroad while in Japan the decline was of 11.63M.
It's really in Japan where N64 sold noticeably less consoles.
Of course that's not the only difference between SNES and N64.
For instance while total software sales were higher on SNES, first-party software sales were higher on N64:

Well, then, that confirms Smash as the biggest exclusive NPD debut ever. Great performance! With digital it could maybe have done 5M, I think.
We're talking about Switch here.
Switch is still predominantly physical and not yet at 30% digital.
True but I think Smash probably has a higher digital percentage than any other Nintendo title? So like, 15% - 20% instead of 5% - 15%
Smash likely didn't push 1.5 million digital units, but I bet the split for this game is among the highest for any Nintendo title.
