I think I'm picking it up again on PC for no reason other than loving the shit out of it.

I just want to be in that gorgeous world again and see that weather station on the distant horizon with the mountains in the background that you think are simply a cool a vista.

Lol, Kojima just said in the interview with Geoff that if he was a prophet, DS would have sold more. What a guy

Those specs are BS. There is not a significant gap between an RX 570 and a 590... at least not enough to list one for 720p 30fps and the other for 1080p 60.

Besides an RX 570 CRUSHES a base PS4...How come it's recommended for 720p 30 when the base PS4 runs the game at 1080p 30?

This game will end up running at 900p 30 on a 750ti... hopefully the RX 580 is enough for 1800p 30 FPS.

Okay, compiled the Summer Game Fest interview with Geoff, Kojima and Shinkawa. Enjoy.

Geoff said:
You're in the KJP offices now. How are things in Tokyo?

Kojima said:
In Japan, the State of Emergency was lifted a while ago but the number of infected people has been increasing. KJP has been working remotely. I come to the office every other day because Yoji is there and we exchange ideas about designs. Little problem I have when working from home is that I become almost like a workaholic, working from the moment I wake up. That's a little thing I'm having trouble with right now.

Geoff said:
As a creative person, I wanted to talk to you about this year. In this time of the pandemic, what art have you consumed? What has inspired you so far?

Kojima said:
Of course I've been watching movies and watching books but a movie I watched recently is called "The Legend of 1900". It's a 1998 movie but I was really moved rewatching this. In Japan, the full 4K and Italian version is coming to theatres soon. The story of this movie is the story of this pianist who is born on this ship and doesn't step outside at all. The pianist doesn't step outside but he's still connected to the people on the ship.

Kojima said:
Watching this movie, I felt there's no complete isolation to anyone. Even if you're at home, you're still connected to the rest of the world and I was moved by that. I was moved so much I bought the soundtrack.

Geoff said:
Mr. Shinkawa, good to see you. I wanted to ask you about the PC version. How much was improved over the PS4 version?

Shinkawa said:
Compared to the PS4 version, the resolution and frame rate have been increased, but the biggest surprise I think is us supporting 21:9 resolutions. To dive into the game with the immersion and presence it brings. When you have this horizontal perspective, you can see more enemies and find where you want to go because the amount of information is much more. With the game upgrades, we've been adjusting stuff like LODs so the camera changes according to that, not to mention some extra UI adjustments.

Geoff said:
Out of all the new features, which one would you say is the biggest in improving the experience?

Shinkawa said:
I touched a little bit about ultrawide but it's not just the gameplay, but the cutscenes too. Compared to the PS4 version, it feels like you're watching a movie at the cinemas with the ultrawide resolution.

Kojima said:
We really had to rework cutscenes to add details to the side after opening them up horizontally so keep an eye out for them.

Geoff said:
The themes in Death Stranding tie into the real world with the pandemic going on right now. I was curious if you could talk about the state of the world right now, the ideas in Death Stranding and if you see the same parallels that people have picked up on in your work.

Kojima said:
Anything in the world right now could happen. I wasn't really predicting this at all. I've been asked "are you a prophet?" because something similar has happened in my past games but I'm not a prophet. If I was, Death Stranding would sell more.

Kojima said:
When I was designing Death Stranding at the concept stage, in the real world, America and Europe seemed divided. Even though we are all connected through the internet, there was a lot of individualism starting at that time. With Death Stranding, it was almost an alarm I wanted to put in about the society I saw at the time and where it was headed.

Geoff said:
We know there's a collaboration with Valve on Death Stranding. Could you maybe talk about the partnership with Valve and how that came about?

Kojima said:
I have a great relationship with Valve. When I first met Gabe 4 or 5 years ago, we hit it off with each other through our shared passion for space. Gabe said that we should go visit SpaceX because he knew Elon Musk. I was anticipating going with Gabe but we never got around to that.

Kojima said:
Valve is in Seattle, and everytime I visit I try to visit both them and Sucker Punch too. I can't explain the details of the collaboration because it's a secret but I saw Half-Life Alyx from the very early stages. I met the team and discussed the game with them.
Kojima said:
With that kind of relationship I had with Valve, the Death Stranding collaboration came about very naturally.

I will say, im probably looking forward to photomode than the actual game, haha.

Just debating if I wanna get it now or wait till after Ghost of Tsushima.

Some time ago I put together this (kinda salty) video addressing some common criticisms/misconceptions about this game. I posted it in the OT, but kind of hoped it would help out new PC players, so here it is again.

Idk I really liked this game and felt it got some really unfair coverage at the time. No offense to the GB guys whose footage I used

I hope someone is able to mod out sam's ponytail, it is possibly the thing that bothered me most about sam's character design.
Putting a hat on or wearing glasses removes the ponytail.

Relatively speaking, Death Stranding does have a much higher baseline graphics spec, with the RX 560 and GTX 1050 3GB suggested in the reviewer's guide for 720p (!) gaming at a minimum of 30fps. Interestingly, the RX 560 is effectively more powerful than the base PS4, which runs the game at native 1080p. In our tests, we found that the Radeon RX 580 proved effective at delivering 1080p at 60 frames per second, so I suspect that the minimum GPU specs are likely wider-ranging than the recommendations suggested. The AMD card delivers a 12 per cent advantage over GTX 1060, which mostly runs at 60fps or higher but can dip beneath.

I traded in my PS4 copy for $40 and Greenman has it for $46, hmmm. I think I am going to have a 2nd go at it.

Oh and I totally forgot about the potential mods.

I've never played this but I'm considering getting it for PC. I only have a GTX 780 so hopefully it'll still run decently.

I should almost support it just because Hideo Kojima used to be my favorite developer (didn't complete PW, and didn't get into MGSV) and Mads Mikkelsen, Lea Seydoux and Nicolas Winding Refn's face is in it.

Is it worth playing just for the story and character arcs?

Hard to say. Seems a lot of people here dislike the story, but on Youtube there's quite a few videos of people bawling at the ending. Imo the whole relationship between Sam & BB is really sweet, but the side characters aren't as strong. Either way I wouldn't rush through the game to see the story, the game is quite unique in having its themes expressed through game mechanics rather than just cutscenes.

Hmm, I see. Because I usually don't play games, and primarily watch movies, as I'm only in it for the story in most cases.

But hiking around, figuring out how much weight I can manage, liking stuff, and delivering seems intriguing. But I would be up in arms if the characters are interesting and the story worth it.

I hope a GTX 780 with a i5 4670K 4C/4T can run this game at 1080p, 30fps and maybe on medium settings?

So i have some question about this game.
I didn't like mgs 5 since i was expecting a more story driven game , and it was just mission after mission without too much story ( i stop early since i didn't like it). Does this game tell the story in a better way ? I like beautiful world to explore ( i loved FF15 and witcher 3) , i don't really care about gameplay, i can just walk and look ( i loved detroit become human for exemple) .
Does this game can click for me? ( and what time it will unlock? )

Eeeeeeehhhhh

I enjoyed it personally, but I would say some character arcs aren't very good

I have no idea. Does this game require DX12?

I can't see the second page on this Nvidia support list.

Can somebody help me figure out if Death Stranding can run on a GTX 780? :)
Because I'm literally ready to hit that Buy button on GMG.
Just checked: the GPU supports DX12 but it`s pretty basic, so you might run into problems. From the Digital Foundry article:

One thing we should stress is that some older DX12 graphics cards will not the run game. We were keen on try the PC version of Death Stranding using a 4GB version of the R9 270X - the closest PC equivalent to the original PS4's GPU. However, the game demands a minimum of the DX12 12_0 feature set, and first-gen GCN cards top out at the 11_1 feature level. According to Kojima Productions, DX12's tiled resources feature is used in Death Stranding for improved GPU memory management.

About to preload now on PC.

Debating on if I want to run this at 70-80% of 4k @ 60 fps on my GTX 1080Ti or just go for max fidelity at 1080p @ 120 Hz...

Kepler GPUs, like AMD's GCN 1.0 GPUs, are 11_1 (which was the basis of the preliminary DX12 spec, hence the confusion as to what exactly constitutes "DX12"), so you're out of luck, unfortunately.

It's very much structured like MGSV in terms of it being mission after mission most of the time but you get a ton more story than MGSV.
It is structured in chapters and each chapters tells it's own little story usually centered around a different character each time while also advancing the overarching plot.
Also the world while mostly barren is very beautiful indeed.

Difficult to say because exploration works completely different in Death Stranding, imo. If you enjoy the gameplay loop, so you want to find different, more efficient routes to deliver cargo, then yes, exploration is much more rewarding. But it´s absolutely not rewarding in a traditional sense; when it comes to searching for loot, interesting places etc. it`s as boring as MGSV.

Really interested in those Half Life missions. And in seeing how smoothly this runs on my GTX 1080.

I just want to say that this game is amazing and quite unique. Newcomers are in for a wild ride. For me it's one of the best games this generation, I loved the gameplay and story so much.

It's not really an exploration game, it's a delivery game. Randomly going into some direction just to see what's there has very little to no reward

Thought my PC (780) was more powerful than a base PS4, but I guess these smaller differences is a factor in it not playing on PC.

Oh well, guess I'll be skipping.

Thanks for the help.

Picked it up on GMG earlier. I'll start the pre-load when I get home. Not sure whether or not to take the day off tomorrow. Probably not.
