I just finished watching Chasing Coral on Netflix and it left me with a sense of hopelessness I have never felt before.

Here are some of the concurrent issues my brain is struggling with:

  • Blatant disregard for science and facts
    • Global warming, ocean warming
    • That covid numbers are fake and made up
    • That masks do not work
    • That masks are a symbol of the beast since you cannot buy or go into places without wearing it
    • That the vaccine coming out will have microchips in it aka the mark of the beast
    • That covid is not really that bad
    • That 5G is responsible for some of this

  • Blatant corruption
    • FCC and net neutrality
    • USPS issues

  • Laws being passed which only benefit a minority of people
    • Read Viking Economics

  • Blatant and systemic racism

  • Healthcare
    • Read "An American Sickness"
    • Health insurance is a joke these days
    • Healthcare cost
    • That somehow a single payer system is close to communism
    • Abuse of FDA
    • Barrier to entry (on purpose) in the healthcare market is so high that it's by practicality impossible for a small company to do anything in the space

  • That Socialism is the same as communism

  • That God somehow is going to fix everything

  • DEA
    • Passing new laws last week pretty much making it illegal (by practical terms) for any company to make CBD products anymore
    • We have invested in labs, equipment, people, farmers, and farmland just to have it all ripped away with one pen stroke of the DEA
    • Marihuana is still a schedule 1 drug
    • Failed drug policies in general where the goal is just to keep people in jail

  • That Biden somehow is a proxy for Marxism
    • If you read Marxism it has several good points AFAIK.
  • The Trump somehow is a good president
  • What should I do with my savings?
  • That the market is doing well actually means something for regular people
  • That the result of the election will lead to massive riots and instability
  • That we are meddling with known dictators
  • That somehow dictatorship and fascism is OK
  • That the police state is fine
  • The raging wildfires in California
  • Hurricanes lining up just to let us know that we've are not in charge and we will be paying for our disregard of nature
I am about to completely check out of the news, the politics and just tend to my farm and say fuck-it to everything. A second strategy I am working on is saving up for a sailboat to just sail the planet and completely disconnect.

I ask people this question often: As far as we know, this earth is the only place we can live. Shouldn't every policy being put in place have this question asked: "Is this going to help or hurt or planet?"

So, how do you guys cope?

Honestly, this year is going faster than I thought it would. It's almost September for crying out loud! Just taking it one day at a time, that's how I cope. I end each day by asking myself "what am I going to do tomorrow to avoid contracting or unknowingly spreading COVID19?".

Same as always. I focus on what I can control and take stock in myself and those I love. The rest is just a bit harder to harmonize with this year. Gotta' keep going and try to do right by others.

Just trying to survive day by day. Literally when I need to go out for necessities, I wear two masks, a face shield, and gloves for each place I go to. It's overkill for some but I don't take chances.

So far, on my non-budget, I've found only two (healthy) ways to cope: 1. Therapy, which I just restarted a few weeks ago; or, 2: Engage in an activity which takes my mind off of all the horrible shit happening every day for a little while.

Of this second pursuit, only losing myself in a really engrossing movie, or exercising like a fiend has proven to work very well. So I guess I'll just keep doing those things for the foreseeable future. 🤷‍♀️

Because of Covid and being at home, it's sort of put me in a bubble. While I read all those things going on, the isolation minimizes the impact because it's just out there and my world is just in my house right now since I don't really go out. So I focus on my family, which takes up plenty of time and just things around the house. It's kinda easy to cope when my world for the last 5 months has only been my house.

I've been writing in my journal everyday now for a week. End of a relationship deal, with all that sense of loss yadda yadda. Still hurts.

I'm going to take up drawing and story writing some more. I've been throwing myself into work a little more as well to keep busy. I just have to let the emotions run their course in the meantime. *sigh* Some days just stink.

Started seeing a therapist and taking meds.

Frankly, I needed to do that years ago, but in 2020 I knew I'd reached a tipping point.

Feels good to be getting the help I've needed.

Just turned my brain off from all that. I game, I watch films, I read a lot, and I hang out with friends (safely). I'm making an effort to save a lot of money this year too.

We're dealing with corona and climate change, Trump. Not with 2020.
I really don't understand this year-calling all the time. "Fuck you 2020!"... What?! Why is that?

I think I'm going to pop some of the CBD we make to see if it chills me out a little.

I feel that's part of the problem. That we just don't really care enough. We don't take things like climate change seriously enough, because you know, gotta drive my car and eat my beef.
Right but that's human nature. We don't care until we have to. Not in meaningful numbers. So it's a complete waste of mental energy to mope around and wish things could be different. They can't.

Humanity will probably survive one way or the other. Maybe 90% of the population gets wiped out and future generations live in a Mad Max wasteland. Maybe we figure out a way to reverse the damage when it becomes truly catastrophic. Maybe something in between. Regardless, there's no sense in wasting your own mental energy on it now. Just take it one day at a time and do what you can. Look out for yourself and your family because no one else is going to. Try to enjoy the brief time you have to experience life because you're not going to get a do-over.

Focus on my kid, diving into some games, books, or movies to escape the real world for a bit, and taking the opportunity to learn as much as I can while things are in this state.

It's been one issue after another for my wife and I this year. For us, it's keep as busy as possible. Video games, PnP games with friends over video chat, house projects, and working.

I've been focusing on myself a lot, whether that be in the gym or development outside of work.

I still feel big sad most of the time, but I think I was like that before Covid, too.

New books, movies, and shows I haven't experienced before. It's been hard, but the new fiction has really helped a ton.

I started therapy, got a Peloton and Animal Crossed my way through all this. By hook or by crook, I am going to come out of this an better human. I'm an essential worker too. That's helping.

Personally my daily routine hasn't changed at all in these months (aside from wearing masks in public places).

My days are pretty much the same.

I'm not sure I am coping. I'm still working, exercising, etc. but it's definitely taking a toll on me. What's the alternative though?

Delete my social media. Focus on my children and learning new skills in regards to home improvement which I find somewhat therapeutic in times like now.

I definitely am feeling it. I work in Revenue Cycle (assisting Hospitals with their revenue streams) and our inventory has dropped significantly. However, we haven't laid off anyone really, which is awesome. To do that, we've been all hands on deck, going 150% every day, some very tense days, and it's absolutely wearing on me. Our house always feels like we are behind on getting something cleaned up or fixed. Money is SUPER tight. Got a kid in school and another going to a sitter. This year alone, my niece almost died because her father left heroine out, my mom attempted suicide and is still bad, and my wife and I lost a baby, and have had trouble getting back on track. My uncle, who was awesome, also died in April.

I would love to time to work out, or have more time to play games or watch a show for me that wasn't Word Party lol. But Im up at 5 am, work through breaks and usually a working lunch until 4 pm, pick up my daughter, my wife is at the gym until 5 or 6, dinner, clean up, baths, etc., and before you know it, I've been up for 16 hours, all gas, no breaks, with usually the only moments where I can at least look online or social media is when the morning coffee hits.

Then add everything in the OP.... lol. Live north of Cincy, and for every Biden sign, there's at least 5 Trump signs... and I just... dont.... get it.

I take things like climate change serious, as of covid. To a certain degree. I do what i can but not let it get to me. Doesn't have to black - white thought process. There is only so much you can do and the world has been in some dire states before. Have a little hope and positivity.

My life pretty much unchanged to be honest. Just have to wear masks and behave differently at work. I had no social life anyways. So now I almost fit in more. And I've actually made a lot of money this year partly because of covid.

But definitely I have pretty much lost all faith in humanity. Trump was the worst thing to ever happen in america. Set us back decades socially. Global warming isn't being dealt with seriously because people in charge (both party lines) are just more concerned with getting elected. This world needs heroes frankly. Rich ass mothers like Bezos need to step up to the plate and use their near infinite private resources to make real changes and set the example, because I have no faith in the government. But seems that won't happen either.
