https://deadline.com/2019/03/a-star-is-born-box-office-profit-2018-1202580798/

The total list so far:

10.) A Star Is Born
9.) The Grinch
8.) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
7.) Deadpool 2
6.) Venom
5.) Aquaman
4.) Bohemian Rhapsody
3.) Incredibles 2
2.) Black Panther

When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn't always about what a film grosses at the box office. The true tale is told when production budgets, P&A, talent participations and other costs are subtracted from box office grosses, and then estimates of ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV are added. To get close to that mysterious end of the equation, Deadline uses data culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

They do this every year, and it offers a great deal of insight into the behind the scenes of how box office grosses actually translate to movie profits (and losses). #10 for this year is A Star Is Born, and they usually update pretty consistently on weekdays until they get to #1 (and they also do smaller lists of biggest bombs and of smaller movies that returned large profits).

looking at the 2017 list how the fuck did they spend 77 million on ads for Get Out when the budget was under 5 million. advertising ruins so much

For one, releasing a movie wide is not, and has never been, cheap. Even with word of mouth hits, you have to make sure enough people know about the movie in the first place for the word of mouth to travel.

For two, the P&A money for Get Out also includes Oscar campaign spending, and that stuff isn't cheap either.

So, #5 leaked out.

Aquaman

So that means the rest of the list should probably play out like this:
4: Bohemian Rhapsody
3: Incredibles 2
2: Black Panther
1: Avengers: Infinity War
