I truly do think Shimbori wanted DoA6 to be taken seriously as an e-sports title, but the backlash from the creepers was too great so he eventually caved. The usual nonsense arguments about the female characters somehow wearing "burqas", Shimobori being a SJW who's sabotaging the series, how awful it was to see these sexy women get visibly beat up (in a fighting game no less *gasp*) and now the core values controversy.

Dead or Alive will never be a serious fighting game franchise, let alone fill the void that Virtua Fighter has left behind. That ship has sailed now. I genuinely think they had a good opportunity to turn things around, but I guess sex and sexism sells more and money talks.
Naw Team ninja are pervs to start with. Let's not act like the bad pr was self dealt.

Some people freaked out when they saw dirt on Kasumi's face, so part of the fanbase was already unstable. But Shimbori did say the fan service was toned down in order to push the game in a more serious and e-sports friendly direction, while maintaining that the characters would still be attractive to look at (just not overly objectified - they advised players who wanted more of that should support the Xtreme series).

But after the backlash, we clearly saw him and Team Ninja changing the PR talk and showcasing a lot more skimpy outfits, breast jiggle physics and what not (and only for the female characters, because of course...). Now we're at the point where they're saying the objectification of women is basically part of the IP's DNA.

If you're trying to argue that they didn't want to have the cake and eat it too, or that they didn't do a 180 halfway through the PR leading up to this game's releases you clearly haven't paid attention.

I don't think that had anything to do with it at all. They said the same thing about DOA5 and got a huge outcry from people who didn't want anything to be changed, so they didn't and ended up going nutso with the amount of DLC. Then we had the whole DOAX3 debacle where they just kept it in Asia. With DOA6, there's no way any kind of outcry from any side convinced to do anything otherwise- they were very clearly never changing anything. The producer even gleefully displayed the mousepads you can get when pre-ordering the deluxe versions a while back:

This feels like a "trojan horse" on Koei-Tecmo's part. Announce it will be toned down, don't get a backlash, don't show anything too revealing in previews, and then...go nuts right before release, lol.

The Evo thing to me showed how immature they are- look, I'm fine with all the pervy costume shit. The problem I have is how they presented themselves at Evo Japan. It was completely unprofessional. I watched some of what happened and it appears that the two models were the ones interested in pausing the game and looking at jiggle and whatever. Shimbori, however, is the one who had the controller and kept acknowledging them. Crazy stuff like this happens on Japanese streams and TV, but you'd think when showcasing your fighting game at a fighting game tournament, you'd want to show...FIGHTING, maybe?

Dead or Alive will never be a serious fighting game franchise, let alone fill the void that Virtua Fighter has left behind. That ship has sailed now. I genuinely think they had a good opportunity to turn things around, but I guess sex and sexism sells more and money talks.

There's really nothing in Dead Or Alive that other games like Soul Calibur and Rumble Roses haven't already outdone at this point. Even SFV has had its outfits lewdness levels ramped-up. It's still front and center on the show.

That's sort of what I was implying :)

And I don't like what's become of SoulCalibur, or how this lust for objectified female characters in fighting games have ramped up in general during these past couple of years. Apparently, if women don't look like porn stars with enhanced Kardashian bodies and stripper outfits it's SJW propaganda. This whole core values bullshit is all over comment sections now too, along with the whining about Sony censoring panty shots of 1000 year old fire breathing dragon girls who just happen to look like they're 9.

Kind of annoyed that the game doesn't unlock until Friday @ 3am instead of 12am like you know 95% of other games do. Come on Tecmo. :(

The "core values" thing was incredibly stupid and deserves to be mocked. I'm not particularly thrilled with censor-happy Sony myself considering how bizarrely they have handled things. It's weird seeing Nintendo open to just about anything and Sony being the ones censoring stuff instead, lol.

So if you're going on PC, the preorder bonuses are up to two weeks? No deluxe version listed still but maybe I'll just wait until release or after to see if there's a GMG discount.

Giving team ninja pr too much credit. I think the lot of them need to be sacked and ashimabori needs media training.

Is there a summary of what content the game contains on the disc/day 1?
Because my local store got the game today, but I'm not 100% sure If I really want it right now, even if i did enjoy the beta and it's new gameplay/visual features.

The online worries me the most, because it was not really playable with all the extreme lags. Did they acknowledge it and mentioned to improve it for release?
And now much offline content is there?

Edit: Forgot about the deluxe demo.
Maybe I should check it out first.
Did you play old DoA games? It has everything from before except Team battle and Tag mode, lobbies won't be day 1 but will be added soon this month.
If you got it on a physical copy then you're losing NyoTengu because she's a pre-order DLC, the deluxe version has another character, Phase 4 and additional costumes.
Online was good in the deluxe demo (which is over now).

Just a couple of questions guys cuz although I've owned all previous entries I actually skipped DOA5 so I've kinda forgotten how some of these things work in the series:

1. Do alternate costumes unlock by completing the game with each character? If not how do they unlock?
2. Is there any in game currency earned from fights or other modes used to unlock items e.g. accessories, palette swaps etc.

I like these kinds of mechanics in fighting games as it always gives you something to work towards. Thanks in advance.

Yea I know, I also have a day off work tomorrow so gonna do an all-nighter tonight!

Just a heads-up: I'll try to post the DOA6 OT about 24h from now (aka February 28th at 11pm UK time).
Seems like a good time for the launch and to update it with whatever needed in the first hours.
Thanks again to Tyaren for the graphics.

I've seen the "Hard*Core Values" OT proposal but I'm not a big fan of that version.
Feel free to share more ideas.
"No tag mode but more values", "Dream on", "Danger zones, gauges, navels and a whole lot of values"...?

Agreed with keeping "Values" out of the OT but I don't really have anything good to contribute, maybe:

Dead or Alive 6 |OT| Now with more softness
Dead or Alive 6 |OT| Sexiness is Irreplaceable

Lol

Dead or Alive 6 |OT| Soft, core fighting; hard values

Dead or Alive 6 |OT| I'm A Fighter, Not a Lover

Dead or Alive 6 |OT| Looking for fanservice, Dream On

No tag battle mode so "Dead or Alive 6 |OT| Foreplayer Tag Team Action" is a bust.

Pun kind of intended.

She does, I think they were two actually. I saw them in a couple of videos before. They were different to the red tengu mask she wore in DOA5LR.

Ok. Good to know.

Yeah, I have nothing to contribute for the ot title. I do like the ones with the aerosmith references. Between values, censorship and "true fans" it can be rough thinking about it, lol

Maybe go with something like:
|OT| The Value of Fighting. Or
|OT| Uncensored Fighting (now with no tag).

Dead or Alive 6 |OT| I'm Still a Fighter
This is honestly the best one.
Though, Id drop the "I'm." Just "Still a Fighter" Because it does seem like people forget that the game is a fighting game, lol

Has anyone on PC had a chance to test the online at all? Been going back and forth on whether I wanna get PS4 or PC (Just missed the GMG deal where it was 47.99 and now it's 53.99) and the pricing margin is very slim between the 2. I can get it for PS4 for, essentially, $21.35, but I'd have to buy PSplus which, at minimum, would put the price up to ~$40, while I could get the PC version for around that price as well. It would run and look better on PC and, presumably, have a better online, but there's no way to know the community (or if it would run better on PC, since there was no Demo).

Fighting games are so frustrating to buy T~T.

Had the same dilemma and settled on PS4 due to the userbase size.

No surprise however, to see a ton of people using wifi in the beta/demo....

Do you guys think that the Evo Japan incident is what kept DOA6 off the Evo 2019 lineup? I heard that Mr. Wizard has always hated the game so that it wouldn't have mattered regardless, but I would think that DOA6 would be more likely to get more entrants and stream views than say, UNIEL.

This had nothing to do with Evo Japan. While I don't believe Wiz has any kind of fondness for DOA, the community has yet to prove they'd show up for DOA.

Last year the lowest entry game at Evo was Injustice 2 with 363. Name one DOA5 tournament that had 363 people enter. Shoot, name one that had 300 or even 200 people enter. And stream numbers for DOA6 have been super low pre-release.

While I believe DOA6 should've had a shot this year, I can't be mad at Wiz for leaving it out. The community has to prove they'll show up, or at least watch DOA6 tournaments. My main issue with the Evo games reveal was SamSho getting in over DOA6. That game has even more to prove than DOA, but it's there anyway.
