I deleted Facebook six years ago at the expense of losing some good connections, but I don't regret it. I'm strongly considering pulling the trigger on deleting my Instagram too, but it's such a nonsense social platform that it's easier to ignore.
I have frequently had this thought, and have frequently considered leaving this forum. I think the major difference is that forums operate on a slower pace and there is little to no commodification of self going on here -- no follower counts, no likes, et cetera -- that allows a particular kind of distance that I find acceptable. That being said, this is a good call-out.This forum is social media too, you know. Like, you have over 1800 posts in about 18 months. Not saying there is anything wrong with that. I like forums too. But you should recognize that you're consuming the same poison, even if it's a different flavor.
I cannot even remotely understand this line of thinking.This. After finding out how racist and homophobic some of my friends are, I realized it's best to know as little as possible about them.
That's what I've done as well. Messenger for friends and family and that's it.I've managed to ween myself of FB and it feels so good! Used to be on it and would endlessly scroll through the feed while re-sharing posts/memes. It got the point where I would spend hours on it and would get easily distracted. Since I'm not on it anymore I've just spend more time watching TV shows, reading and learning new things. Next step might be to deactivate it and keep Messenger but we'll see.
I just keep people I like on Facebook and the second they post something racist or whatever their gone.
You'd think this would be a given, but looking at this thread I wonderAlso, I only accept friend requests from people I know personally.

Oh for fuck's sake, long deletion queues like this should be illegal.
