Since it's probably gonna be the therapist's son they are gonna try to do racial commentary.

Which means it's gonna fail horribly. You can't curate Rorschach, the very idea of the character is being this stunted sad broken child that can't change.

If we kidnap Moore and play his comic book movie adaptations to him on an endless loop his anger and disgust could power the world. The table flipping alone would be enough to replace all of the windmills in the world.

While I would pay to see this...

He doesn't care about this trifling stuff anymore. He is now on a higher plane of existence and magical enlightenment.

...this is probably more accurate. Heard an interview with him recently and he seemed pretty okay at this point. Describing advertising as literal magic/incantations/etc. was an interesting perspective lol.

He literally sees everything as black and white. What's compelling about him?

I got what I wanted already with Minutemen so I'm good.

Please...no more licensed Watchmen fanfic...please...it's getting so embarrassing, and I say that as someone who was adoring the TV show until it shat the bed thematically in the last three episodes. (Those first six are still fire though.)

I'm ambivalent about endlessly milking a great standalone book for its iconography instead of having new ideas. But what's worse, as we keep seeing, is that none of these spinoffs have the political bravery or intelligence to truly justify invoking Moore - a writer who's long been savagely critical of capitalism, of imperialism, with immense articulacy - in the first place. It always ends up being a mishmash of fanwank and some tentative stabs at "relevance" without any genuine challenge to the status quo.

I've enjoyed some of King's past comics, but forgive me if I'm not interested in a sequel to a political work by an avowed anarchist from the pen of an ex-CIA officer.

New Rorschach comic? Ugh, yeah, I think I'll pass....

But... Tom King is writing it? Uh, okay, I'll take a small bite and see what's about, but I'm not that interested....

A series about an angry right wing lunatic written by an angry CIA operative. This will be a lame pizzagate/QAnon parable.

Have you actually read anything Tom King has written? If not, please do yourself a favor and go read his Omega Men series. Cause like, yeah, he's jumped the shark more than a bit lately, but..... he's not a fucking QAnoner, Jesus Christ. Not even close.

Tom King is hit or miss but I'll give this a shot. The tone has to be perfect for this dumb character.

Alan Moore would spin on his grave were he not still with us. (*knocks on wood*) King is operating on the assumption you read this completely abstracted from the reality he was literally a CIA agent.

Don't.

Are those weirdos ever going to realize that Rorschach wasn't a good guy, and wasn't supposed to be one, but a dangerous zealot?

Like, jesus, everyone seems to just up and miss that because he follows the rule of cool.

In a series where you have Ozymandis, Comedian and Dr. Manhattan, how the fuck does Rorschach turns out to be "the most compelling character"?

I'm sold just on the font used for the cover.
Doomsday Clock was good, TV show was great. We just have to accept that in 2019/2020 exploiting Watchmen ended up being a good idea 😂

Everyone? The TV series represented him with a white supremacist gang!

While I'm not a big 2 publisher fan, I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it's Tom King: he tends to be hit or miss. But on the other hand, the art in the link looks pretty damn good if nothing else. Plus the cover art looks fantastic. King always teams up with good artists.

If King and Fornés knock it out of the park, it could be as good as King's most critically acclaimed stuff. His Batman run wasn't one of them since the quality was all over the place.

It's weird seeing Watchmen get milked so much all of a sudden, just as I finally read it recently. Has it been like this for a while or is this really a recent phenomenon?

Has Tom King written anything good since Omega Men?

Pax Americana has bee the only good Watchmen supplement released so far, and that's not even really about Watchmen.

The whole "DAE Rorchach is bad" takes are kinda corny to me. Like it's very reminiscent of the kids in middle school who would tell everyone Disney's Hercules is inaccurate to Greek mythology. Like we get it you understood him and most people didn't.

What's cornier, imo, is that thinking Rorshach is cool or interesting in any way outside of a character study on really shitty people, something HBO's Watchmen seemed to pick up on at least.

if they go down a crypto-fascist q-anon loon path that might actually be interesting. Unfortunately I don't really see that happening.

And even if they do, fascist satire is probably the hardest to pull off since the aesthetics of fascism are most of the appeal. See people swooning over Rorschach to begin with.
