Which characters are you referring to?

Lisa seems to be the only female character that suffers physically in the game. The rest actually do pretty well and are independent, and don't need anyone protecting them.

A lot of dramatic or "shocking" moments are about torturing and maiming women and Deacon rushing to the rescue etc. It's really strange when there's multiple instances of it. It's even weirder since some of the characterization like Rikki is actually pretty well done. I'm not done with the story yet, just hit the
captured by Rippers/assault on Lost Lake section
but I'm feeling the above already.

I've come across one main character that was a "victim". I don't get the torture porn comment went straight to the right side of extreme with that

It's more the amount of it that's striking me at this point. First you have that woman that used to ride with you that you're trying to avenge by killing the other dude, track him and see the detective vision of her being beat to death. Then there's Lisa you rescue after she's captured screaming when you touch her because some shit went down, then you see her again after being captured yourself and that's its own thing. Lisa as a character just kinda sucks in general. On your way through Ripper territory there's the woman strung up you fight with Skizzo about, she's been tortured, her legs are broken so you suffocate her while calling her sweetheart to comfort her. Escape and make it back to Lost Lake and another woman is being cut/tortured, rescue her and send her to guard the marshes. It just keeps going. There's a certain level of this kind of thing you expect from post apocalypse in a story but maybe there's a bit too much of it here? I don't know, like I said I haven't finished the game yet but it's noticeable to me now.

I rather enjoy the way the main story of the game is tied together with all of the 'side' content, so that you end up making progress in several missions at once. It's pretty neat, makes the overall narrative feel like check-boxy.

That said, the story itself feels really quite disconnected with very little sense of flow from one mission to the next. Missions start off with dialogue that suggests you didn't just immediately finish the mission before it, missions start with descriptions like 'do the <specific thing>' and then in a cutscene you do it and it's mission over. All feels a bit half hearted.

Hmm I can see what you mean now. Forgot some of those examples.

I think it's trying to get into Deacons rule of "not killing unarmed women". While doing a bad job in writing and representation, with the exception of some awesome female characters.

To be fair that's what 15 minutes out of 60+ hours?

There are far more men getting far worse things done to them that's near constant throughout the game.

The tone of the scenes are very different in comparison. But sure, I guess that's not a lot of screen time considering the whole.

The camp 3 missions seem a lot more fleshed out. Probably helps that the camp members don't seem like asses lol

Rikki is Deacon's work wife and I get the feeling that
Maddie is hella pissed about it

I was about to say the men are going thru the same stuff. I just witnessed a 2 deaths not to long ago
i mean, he saves Taylor (a man) who is being mutilated (ear cut off). I can't really get behind the torture porn comment...to me, this is a nasty, fucked up post apocalyptic world full of bad people, and bad things happen to all kinds of good people.

Just remembered...Deacon (who is being tortured with a blow-torch) is saved by Lisa! So I'd say DG is an equal-opportunity torture zone...although truthfully, as mentioned these are small parts of a very, very big game.

I fought my first Breaker and it was a somewhat easy fight. Granted I am playing on Normal but is the 1st one just a test fight because someone posted a video of a fight with one and it went on for a while and it took a few molotovs and a bunch of bullets before it died?

Now that this has been out a few weeks and people have actually had a chance to play it, Im curious what the consensus is here?

Is it a massive open world like Horizon Zero Dawn, or is it more of an open world playground like Infamous/Spider?

Im okay with some jank, framerate issues and bugs -SoD ruled in spite of all that stuff-
But I think what turned me away more than anything is the comparisons to Far Cry and ubisofts open world games...

It's no more of a Ubisoft game than horizon and Spider-Man honestly except funny enough days gone don't got the towers. As far as world size it's open world. Definitely not a playground

I have no problem admitting if I'm wrong about something, just how I'm feeling based on what I've seen so far in the game.

So would you rather it didn't have any of that stuff at all?

The unfortunate reality is that in a post apocalyptic world that's the sort of crap that would go on. Hell, a lot of it still even happens in fully functional societies.

If you want something that really highlights the fucked up side of society you should play Lisa.

Watching the end credits roll and to be honest the ending was a bit anti-climactic. One reason for this is tied to the trust mechanics and the other is that it's just kinda lame.

I also feel like the Freaker Hordes are really under-utilised for setpieces and story missions and don't really factor in much at all.

It's a really solid 7/10 (I'm using the whole scale) and I think there is a lot of potential for a sequel here. When the game hits it's stride story wise it was excellent and the open world itself is incredible. I just think all these different systems could interact more.

But yeah, good game. I enjoyed my time with it.

Has anyone experienced a glitch where you're unable to enter the cave in the mission "What it takes to Survive"? The entrance is closed off and attempting to go around says Leaving Mission Area.

Can we save during mission to pick it up later? I think I lost some progress because I made a manual save but I'm not sure it was during a story mission

You can tell when you can't save during a mission when you go by the bike and go into the main menu to save, when it says "restart checkpoint" at the top of the menu. Checkpoints (some ok, some not) will be saved.

So do you think there will be a NG+ option when the June update comes around? Apparently there will be additional trophies and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a trophy for beating the game on Survival difficulty.
