quick question, do the hordes get icons on the map like other missions/open world activities?

How far am I along?

I just got the DNA machine from Sarah's old workplace and the doctor at the camp was murdered.

Some parts of this game just feel really low-rent. Like the entire cutscene sequence when you visit Sarah's memorial. It felt like you were supposed to play it at one point, or maybe it was at the start of the game instead. It just lurches from scene to scene with no transition, and the music felt really out of place. Not to mention that the we had seen most of it at the start already. It was just weird.

Yeah, that sequence was awful. Later flashbacks are interspersed with gameplay so that mission almost certainly almost certainly had the gameplay sections removed for some reason. I'm guessing that it may have been how the game started and that section was a glorified tutorial. Maybe it got cut because it felt too much like the opening of the TLoU and they just wanted to get to the "two years later thing" faster?

Thankfully that was the only case of something like that I"ve seen* and I'm well into the third camp.

*Except for one someone else in the thread pointed out earlier- there is an odd cut the first time you return to your watch tower with Boozer where it cuts from outside the gate to inside the tower and Boozer has new bruises on his face. Seems like there originally might have been a gameplay segment in the yard outside the tower.

I would enjoy the bike riding a lot more if it ran better. After the third camp the performance while riding is terrible even on the Pro.

Hello! I'm playing on Pro with the latest patch (1.07) and I'm getting some severe freezes in the second area, example:

Yeah, that's the game, it froze for 3-4 seconds.
I've got a similar lenght freeze before approaching the Iron Mike camp but forgot to save it.

I'm playing on PS4 Pro, is anyone of you also getting this?
I mean, the game stutter a LOT on bike, but this is something else...

[I'm getting 1 second freeze too in different situations/area]

Did you record this with default share setting?

Finished it late in the night and I really loved most of it and guys don't stop playing the moment the credits rolled!

Spoiler-Warning, only click/read if you totally finished the game
I loved all those final scenes/missions after the credits rolled. Is Sarah actually around anywhere in the world? Coudn't find her anywhere, which is a bit sad to be honest. Also: loved it that you could give the cute little dog some chewing toys! and that final mission with NERO?! Fucking scary and great scene, I'm so looking forward to a Days Gone 2 now or DLC, but I guess it's just for a possible Part 2 of the game and not for story DLC.

When O'Brian took off his helmet I was floored! I felt the same about not seeing Sarah at the Lost Lake camp. Maybe she's at her old workplace working on the cure?

Everything I read makes this sound like Mad Max. Very well crafted open world game that just didn't meet well with critics...but is clearly a very good game. I have too much to play and need to finish the MK 11 story but am very interested.
Nah, that's off base. Although I could see why you'd draw that conclusion.

If Mad Max was like 80% empty, 15% okay content and 5% great content, Days Gone is like 60% empty, 15% okay content, 25% great content

At least in pure gameplay/design terms. It's a way better game.

I say this as someone who really liked Mad Max.

Went in to this game almost completely blind. Played an hour, saved, came back to the whole area being reset.

What a joke. I'm done. Next!

If you can somehow tolerate that waste of your time, the game was pretty fun.

I understand the comments about the story picking at Camp 3 now. Once you have actually likeable characters it actually picks up.

Liking Deacon more as the game goes on too. Pre-release he definitely came across as a generic angsty boy but instead he's clearly a little unhinged and super awkward.

Pretty sure I just ran into a bug that's honestly pretty shitty and frustrating.

I came across one of those random blue question marks and ran towards it. It ended up being the one where you have an investigation area and once you start following it, you eventually get snared by a rope and hung up in a tree until the enemy captures you. You wake up in a random enclosure with nothing but the boot knife and have to stealth/knife your way to your supplies in a nearby chest.

During the stealth-kill part of the activity I accidentally picked up that common AK-47 type weapon that almost every human enemy uses. I killed the enemies around me, finally found the chest, got my weapons back and headed back towards camp.

During my trip back to camp, I was attacked by a bunch of birds and died. I respawned back in the camp area to the point after I had killed all the captors but before I got to the best and I didn't have any items except for the AK-47. I walked back to the area where I originally found the chest... and no chest!! I looked around the small area but the chest was completely gone.

That means I lost all of my gear, ammo, supplies, and materials for crafting. That's a pretty big setback. I can get my weapons back from a gun locker but it all costs money and since I just hit the second region I haven't made any money yet besides the initial credits I was given. All the materials and supplies will take a ton of time to replace since I no longer have the materials to make supplies.

Just a shitty bug that's kind of put me off to playing any more. I'm gonna take it back to Redbox and rent it again at some point in the future.

the game autosaves every now and then. just load to before.

this game is a lot of just boring busy work.

I'm just spent hours driving from A-B to do some nominal gameplay bits. Then back to camp to report

then repeat. And more repeat.

drive schizzo to mine. Watch them force you to walk slowly. Only enemies in the mines are some zombies you easily dispatch with the combo melee weapon. (Took like 20-30 minutes)

drive boozer everywhere

chase boozer when he's drunk (took forever and so fucking stupid)

follow misc thing here

Drive to some camp or another

drive to do mission. drive back to report.

drive to hunt thing. drive to return hat boot etc el

fuck me. They couldn't have designed this any worse if they wanted to. That's days gone the game. Its just a lot of boring busy work. Like this game is fucking lousy. It's long because its just filled with the absolute D-tier open world shite. They also don't give you missions in a list to attempt. You gotta wait for xyz mission to show up/camp. The inability to fast travel so they make you listen to boring innane conversations.

Bad mission design. Bad open world. Does not respect a gamer's time.

Fuck me it was comical... deacon killing heaps of people to activate comical cutscene which is interrupted by a bunch of guys coming in who I chopped down for more comical cutscene with the goofy priest

I'm really not loving this. Am I near the end game? I want to finish it and be done with this.

Yep, many MANY cutscenes and transitions feel like they were originally meant to be gameplay. So many truncated and cut sequences.

Bend definitely overstretched themselves with this game - good on them though

I've played for at least 10 hours doing nothing but exploring, destroying nests and ambusher camps. The game plays and feels really great. The world feels alive and pretty dangerous to me.

If the game keeps going like this it'll be in my top three open world games of this generation, just behind Horizon Zero Dawn and RDR2.

I really like the power curve / skill progression in this game. It's slow and you gradually feel more powerful in a really satisfying way. Shooting is awkward with the lame weapons you start out with, but that's perfectly fine because it makes getting better weapons and skills more meaningful as you progress. I'm doing head shots left and right now with single taps from my trusty assault rifle. Combat is gooood.

Edit: I'm a good way into the camp 3 missions and the only bug I've encountered was a biker stuck in a tree, I couldn't touch him as he'd turned into an inactive object. I've also run into a couple of performance issues while riding the bike, but nothing major so far. Certainly nothing that's been detrimental to my overall impression of the game.

Yeah if you go to "load game" you can choose from many many save slots and hop to one before this happened

Finished the game in one week (release day to next friday) and the platinum took one more day but I was careful to get most trophies before finishing the main story.

Absolutely LOVED the game, I consider it to be very close to a masterpiece, although there are a lot of things wrong with it, mainly the human AI, the bad framerates (on the pro) and a few other small things.

Deacon was a joy to play with, reaaaaaally good voice over buy Sam, he gained another fan, never heard of him before. He's getting very close to that Troy Baker level. :)

The story was fantastic, the setting was awesome, the gameplay loop surprisingly fun!

9.5/10 from me.

Some of the mission design has been really weird.

I just played two back to back where

Addison radioed me to come to talk. I go back to Lost Lake camp and a 1 minute cutscene about just keeping an eye on Boozer happens. Mission complete, get XP. Next one, go to the farm to check on Boozer. He's farming, talk for literally 10 seconds. Mission complete. Get XP.

Not sure what the point of that was but alright I guess.

I swear they weren't there before.

is that the clearing one of the infestation around the north west region of the 1st map?
looks like the cabin that is near a pond/lake area.
that area is enroute of the horde that travels between the cave, which is slightly west of that cabin to the powerline tower that is near the rundown nero camp by the north west corner

yup. but you've spent time fast tracking nearby and then you had to drive to him. And then after, you gotta probably find some fuel, fast travel back and repeat.

The XP levelling structure of the game is just bizarre. You'll never really be able to level up by doing misc running around in the open world as creatures give you such low XP. Its reliant on the game giving you these things to do and then chunks of 2k-4k-6k XP.

Weird. Did you completely update/patch the game before playing first?
It's on 1.07 and says it's the latest version.

To be more clear I got to an area with
some kid zombies on a roof
It's right toward the beginning of the game. The first time I went through it I nearly cleared the area but died at the end. It reset to the beginning of that area and so I was like damn, my fault, I died. So I played it again. Killed all the zombies in the area and burned out the 4 nest things without dying this time and then manually saved. Turned off the game and loaded into my save today to find I have to yet again clear this area. Not going to bother for a third time.

Got the platinum just now. If it wasn't for the atrocious performance on Pro, stupid design sometimes and the repetitiveness it would've been an 8 for me. Guess I'm giving it a 7. Still had a great time with the game.

Thanks for the replies, I figured it out with the help of another poster here and got it all functioning again. Still something Bend should look at.

Probably because it's a campaign/tutorial mission... Once the story there unfolds (it's like, the first or second mission) it will be saved properly. :/

The game does do some weird things with the saves. I was going to fight a horde so I saved the game nearby. Died. Reloaded and they disappeared?!

Last night I had an autosave reload from a nero checkpoint with a speaker on, kicked me back to a half mile away. When I got to the checkpoint to try activating it silently again, the checkpoint was already activated. Had to reload a few auto saves back in order to reset properly.

I get the feeling that Sony's internal mock reviews scored this game a lot higher than it did once critics and fans got their hands on it.

It's a shame because the game is impressive in some ways. Sony Bend went from making a handheld Uncharted game to a massive open world zombie (wait, no, freaker!) game. The motorcycle feels great, the environments are beautiful, melee combat is fun, but man those NERO stealth missions are some of the worst forced stealth segments I've played. I wasn't a fan of the MJ sections in Spiderman PS4, but those are high art compared to these.

I want to Platinum it, and I am enjoying myself, but at the same time certain things just are so frustrating.

The stealth missions aren't bad. I like learning about the freakers. They're easy, a nice change of pace, and they don't last long. I've been caught by the guards maybe twice in total and I'm nearing the end of camp 3.
