play more indiesFor me it's not even about price that much. It is mostly about technical state of games at launch these days. More and more AAA games are released in states ranging from totally broken to playable but missing features that it will be added later.
I mean, if no one buy the games on day one they will all flop. Imagine if everyone wait a year to buy a game.
guess i've just missed those posts of yours, i always took you for being more AAA focused. i've been burned out on AAA stuff for a while and play probably 80% indie games these days and am having a lot more fun. i can usually trust them to be in a great state at launchI do. Maybe not as much as I could but I am at least one of the rare people here on Era that will post interesting indie games and push them as much as I can.
Because I want to play them the moment they're accessible to the public.
And even if they are not technical mess games are getting so many updates that include QoL improvements and new content after few months that again you are paying more for less if you get them day one.
Price increase and QoL is what finally convinced me. I was very picky with day one purchase (basically SONY and Nintendo first party).Only thing I can't disagree with is how it can be a bummer to occasionally miss out on QoL updates and such that make the experience better, but it's not the end of the world usually.
"I don't understand playing any of these games at release...Except for these games in particular that totally throw out my argument."I genuinely don't understand people who play games at release. Pre-ordering is beyond my sense of disbelief.
Like, TLOU is one of my favorite games ever, right? But...there are so many other games out there I can play, and I can pick up the sequel for $30 physical sometime next year. Who knows, maybe I'm the weird one
Edit: Except, of course, multiplayer games. I realize why we buy those at launch.
Double Edit: And Nintendo games, seeing as releases are rarely unpolished and games hardly ever goes on sale.
Agreed 100%100% Facts.
This feels like it should be common sense, but every time these threads pop up, declaring Day 1 purchasing as dumb, it becomes clear to me that this fundamental truth escapes most people.
If no one buys games/hardware on Day 1, games flop, companies produce less, bugs do not get fixed because companies don't see the interest, DLC isn't made, and the industry as a whole contracts.
You need people to buy day 1 to keep the industry healthy, AND you need folks to wait so that companies are incentivized to discount games and fix issues, in order to stimulate more new sales.
You need BOTH. You cannot have one without the other. No amount of trying to feel superior about your personal buying habits will change that reality.
