Dangerous Driving 2 is the arcade racer for everyone, featuring slick driving that rewards racing fans wanting to test their lightning reflexes at eye watering speeds. Set within a dynamic open world, players can choose how they want to race, either by competing in a host of thrilling events against AI opponents or going for a cruise in freedrive mode and testing the limits of the game's emergent crash mechanics with huge multi-vehicle pile-ups. This world can be explored solo or in split-screen multiplayer, while those looking to challenge the best drivers around the globe can take the action online.

The first game definitely wasn't perfect but I had a ton of fun with it. I'm really glad they're getting to make a sequel.

The first game had a lot of potential, but was VERY buggy. I still had fun with it but it was frustrating to know how the game could have been.

I'm definitely interested in this. Hope it will be far more polished.

I'm still waiting for that black spiritual sequel they hinted to wanting to do (unless I was just imagining it?)

Glad the first one sold well enough to warrant a sequel. Hopefully this has a bigger budget.

The first game was pretty bad, IMO. I hope they went back and completely redesign the handling system. Also, they're absolutely not taking nearly enough time. I realise Three Fields specialise in zero-budget games, but I'd have thought the EGS money would have given them more time. Evidently, that hasn't happened.

I thought Alex Ward said he would never make another game on a Nintendo platform after Nintendo wouldn't advertise NFS: Most Wanted when EA refused to?

Open World? Those ambitious bastards. Going straight for a Paradise successor.

I picked up danger zone 1 and 2 right at release and was kind of underwhelmed. I passed on the first dangerous driving, but I'm optimistic about this. If it's more of a total package like burnout 2 was, I'd love it.

...building on the innovations we as game makers are passionate about including interactive music...

One of the weirdest omissions of the last game, even though I understand their reasoning. Glad to see they are addressing that.

Yeah, missed the fact that it's an open world. On Three Fields' budget? Seemingly developed within 15-18 months? I'm suspecting a potential mess inbound.

It's great that they are able to turn these games around so quickly and build upon the predecessor every time while staying afloat.
It's a pity they stopped chasing the old-school Burnout formula. They could have really hit a niche if they had continued to build more assets, combined it with the crash mode and if they tried to refine the driving model.

Jumping to open world should be a lot harder than doing confined courses. Filling that open world might be even harder.

Open world is a bit of a shame, I'd rather they go super creative with closed tracks. Open world never suited the Burnout formula imo, I'll die defending Burnout 3 as the peak of the series.

This is from a blog post from them earlier in the year

Cross-platform play is something we wish could have included in our plan for our last game. It seems a lot of rules and regulations were being figured out last year and it was too late for us to take advantage of them. But we have our fingers crossed that we can make this happen. We do have an online crowd. It's not the biggest in the world yet, but it's also not the smallest. It will be great if you can all race and crash together regardless of what system you are playing on. So it's definitely on our roadmap for 2020.

We'll be continuing to work with our friends over at Spotify to use Music in a few clever ways. But this time, we'll also be adding a curated list of licensed music to the next game as well.

Seems like they know what people really want - it is just a lot of work and planninig to get there safely

I wish these guys would take a little longer to cook their games. Appreciate the likely scenario is that they need to push them out to stay afloat though.

It's not even been a year since the first which showed promise but felt under baked - but then that's the summary of pretty much everything they've put out so far.

Interested in the open world, wonder how well they're gonna make it though. The previous games were pretty fun but they each concentrated on a relatively simple concept each because of the budget and technical limitations. To deliver a fun and exciting open world is definitely a big ambition - let's hope they pull it off.

Serious mess. I don't know why they won't just stick with one thing till they can get it working. Racing Open World? With potentially no music a second time around? I hope they reconsider.

Hoping this means they'll build on, improve, and tweak what they did in the first one, and deliver a quality product and a good spiritual successor to the Burnout franchise.

Given the state of the last game, going this ambitious this fast is a really bad sign.

Agree with everyone who's sceptial they can pull off an open world when they've ven had issues with the circuits in the first game.

But also: they're trying to do open world _with a split-screen_ - not even the god of open world racing (Forza Horizon) has done that.

This will never, ever work out well...

Sounds like they're getting help from Epic Games too. Interesting.

Would love them to get this up on Game Pass so more people could try it. I bought it on PS4 so would definitely be up for playing again on another platform.

Man alive, I don't want an open world again. I tried getting back into Paradise Remastered recently and remembered how awful it was trying to do the races and constantly check your map (or stare at the turn signals). I don't mind the open world for tooling around, but nothing compares to the tracks in 3 for pure fun.

Edit: It also blows my mind that we are so vocal about what we want from Burnout and NFS (3 and Hot Pursuit, respectively) and they will literally give us anything but those.

Meanwhile I have not been able to play the first one yet on PC (because of my own choice of not buying EGS exclusives).

Now that 2 is announced, I'll just wait for that one and hope it isn't a release date exclusive.

I couldn't play the first one- literally.

As soon as it said GO I would press the gas and my car would sputter and move a few feet and the game said I failed. I couldn't for the life me figure out why and there weren't any instructions other than what the objective was.

The first game was a mess, but would figure a second one would be a good shot to iron them out, then saw Open World.

Just stop.

Hopefully they really nail this one. If you go back and play burnout 2 (pre-EA), DD was actually remarkable similar to that... the franchise had just moved forward so much that it wasn't easy to see that. I think Three Fields was just defiantly (and to some degree out of necessity) making a budget racer again.

Skeptical about about world tbh, but I think this is a great team and I'm interested to see what they can do in follow up.

Anything else you can share, CrashedAlex?

Great! Hopefully this is what burnout 2 was to burnout.

This is probably right on the money with what we should be expecting.

On the one hand I'm excited to see a sequel to the first game and I'm rooting for Three Fields Entertainment to succeed.

However, the mistake they keep making is trying to compete with AAA games on a shoestring budget. I didn't buy Dangerous Driving because it looked like a Burnout Clone made on a shoestring budget, and if I want to play a game like that I can just fire up Burnout Revenge on my XB1 right now.

Now they're saying Dangerous Driving 2 is open world. Yet again they are going to try to build an even bigger game on a shoestring budget. It's very likely that once I see the game I'll realize I'd rather just boot up Burnout Paradise Remastered as it's a much more impressive package.

So what I'm trying to say is that I believe they'd be far more successful trying to deliver a great game but on a scale that works for their budget. Something like Burnout Crash was great, and I'd love to see them try something like that and nail it rather than try and make a Burnout clone which is never going to match up to the pristinely polished originals.

More like Burnout 3 to Burnout. That game was utter perfection.
Open world makes me super not interested
Open world? Yuk. They should stick to the Burnout 3 formula and master it. It will just be a subpar Paradise. Burnout Subparadise. 😏
Stopped reading at open world.
My thoughts exactly. Yeah Not a fan of paradise because of the open world aspect. I think the Mission format works better for games like Burnout/Dangerous Driving. I'll at least keep an open mind and give it a try if I get the opportunity though. It is good to see that this series is still able to continue though holding the burnout candle?

I enjoyed the first Dangerous Driving but it was clear it was a game made by a small team and lacked some polish in the physics, etc. Hoping this will actually feel like a true Burnout sequel.

This seems way too much, way too soon and is not what I wanted from a DD sequel after how many issues the original had.

Many of those issues (no online, dodgy physics and lacking vehicle deformation, 30fps) can certainly be addressed in DD2 but when even DD wasn't up to the levels of Burnout 3, I just wanted DD2 to be closer to the level of a Burnout 3, not to skip straight ahead to Paradise when they haven't proven they can pull off a great corridor racer yet.

Hope it's good, I'm pulling for them but I think they're really biting off more than they can chew here.

The open world was my least favorite aspect of Burnout Paradise and the NFS:MW reboot. I just want to race.

And the previously mentioned open world racers had an online mode that nobody used as it was designed to be. Trying to get everyone to drive to the same spot for a race was impossible. You might as well have been giving algebra to rocks. People just spend the whole time slamming into each other.

Anyway, I hope the best for this game.

It's crazy how forced they are trying to make this. The core issue with Dangerous Driving is the very feel and weight of the cars and all the surfaces and objects they make contact with.

Without getting that right, jumping right to a sequel with this ambition doesn't instill confidence that they have worked that out yet.

This should have been a Beam.NG or Wreckfest style project. Community built over some time.

3 and Revenge (4) are the best- honorable mention : Burnout 2, just one exciting game without any of the artificial features of its successors.
Track based action is a good fit for arcade racers and Paradise was still fun at times and technically impressive but different and less enjoyable. I don't regret getting Wreckfest, it needed some patches and the fact they're still patching it frequently instead of a bigger patch is a bit annoying to be honest, it is however like the perfect racing game (not necessarily arcade) for me right now in terms of gameplay and diversity!

The first one was a disappointment and this one being open world just makes me want it even less.
