Why is there controversy surrounding CD Projekt Red and Cyberpunk 2077?

CD Projekt Red has a history of transphobia. This is well documented at this point and not a matter of debate. Due to this context there is particular concern about transphobic or insensitive content in Cyberpunk 2077 itself, such as the decision to tie gender to voice in the character creator, and trans fetishization in illustrations in the game—and these are just examples from prerelease footage. Additionally, there have been concerns about racist imagery and stereotyping. This article goes into depth about some of these issues.

What incidents of transphobia have occurred surrounding the game and the company, and why are they hurtful?

This list will be updated over time as more examples come to light, especially as the game releases and more content is uncovered. If you wish to have something added to this list, please send me a DM and get my attention.

Why is ResetEra allowing an official thread for this game?

There has been a lot of discussion about whether there should even be an official thread for Cyberpunk 2077, and many points of view were considered for this decision. Ultimately, a thread like this can serve as a platform for minority concerns to be aired and discussed respectfully, and given appropriate attention. We've also heard from minority members, including some trans members, who have asked for a space where they can talk about the game without needing to worry about trolling and bigoted posting. We expect all posters in the thread to extend the consideration and empathy to give them that space. We will be moderating as strictly as necessary to make sure they do.

What can I do to help fight transphobia?

Transphobia exists in many aspects of our lives. From casual discrimination such as the continuous misuse of a person's preferred pronouns, to more serious ramifications such as housing being denied, legal rights being taken away, and being discriminated in the legal system. Every trans person either has experienced transphobia in their lives, or will experience transphobia at some point.

Moreover, transphobia is a systematic issue that is present in every level of our society. Politicians fight to take away our rights. Celebrities use coded language and religious justifications, if not outright hostility, in order to continue to deny our existence. Media continues to portray us as the butt of a joke, or acts like we're something to be fascinated by, rather than treated with respect.

Actions speak louder than words: Become active in your local politics, donate to transgender causes, stand up for these issues wherever they arise, and if you know transgender people in your life be there for them and support them.

Here are some pro-trans organizations around the world where you can make a donation and show your support
  • For those of you in the US, The Trevor Project is one of the leading LGBT organizations. They are dedicated to crisis intervention and suicide prevention for people who are in need of support, love, and care.
  • For those of you in the UK, Mermaids is dedicated to the support of transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse children, young adults, and their families. They have been around since 1995, and have been one of the most vocal voices speaking out against transphobia in the UK, including showing the dangers that transphobia imposes upon our youth.
  • If you would like to donate to CDPR's native country of Poland, you can find the Trans-Fuzja Foundation website here. The Trans-Fuzja Foundation has been around since 2008, and is dedicated to the support of transgender people in Poland in many aspects of life and society, including politics.
We are your friends. We are your family members. We're your coworkers. We're the people you meet on the street. We're the essential workers who keep society running in a pandemic. We're everywhere. We're not some sort of freak or joke, and we're not going away.

I want to give major thanks to Uzzy for lending her talent, time, and effort in putting together graphics and material for this official thread. Without her, this would not have been possible on such short notice. I would also like to give a shout out and thanks to Kyuuji for allowing me to use images and links from her own thread for this posts.

PC players should check out this mod if you haven't yet. Or if you downloaded an earlier version, it has more features now.

www.nexusmods.com

Cyber Engine Tweaks

Scripting framework for modders and quality of life fixes.

For one it has a working console (that also works in fullscreen mode), unlike the dedicated console mod which was broken with 1.05. So if you wanna do something like get easy money, this is way quicker than doing the money glitch. For example, this command would give you 500k: Game.AddToInventory("Items.money",500000)

It can disable all the intro movies and warning screens, essentially get you right into the main menu on boot up (disable the CDPR launcher to make it even faster).

It can also disable the vignetting when you're sneaking! No more super dark screen.

Theres a config file where you can enable/disable every feature.

There's a commercial on TV, 2nd ammemdment is not only for the rich with the entire familly with their guns.

Then it fades to the packshot of the Carnage shotguns.

Then the Crisper rifle... It's not in the game.

The Sovereign iconic shotgun is pretty dumb lol, little spread so you can treat it like a revolver at medium range. Super quick reload too.

Probably not. Or it's an oversight from the developpers.

As Maiko in my game had her head transformed into pulp by a blast of shotgun in the face by myself a few missions before the kidnapping. And yet the doll that came after did indeed look a lot like her.

It's probably just a case of an "unfortunate" combinaison of the limited NPC head and hair pool. And there's a few heads that seem to be ported from The Witcher 3. There's at least one i recognized instantly.

Had Woodman come back to life after blasting him earlier in the judy/evelyn quest line lol.. It could be an oversight but something to pay attention to on the next play through.

I was super tired this afternoon and was going through The Ride mission - literally the first real mission of the game. I am trying to piece together the story. Can someone help?

Dex is a fixer that has a couple 'prove it' jobs for V and Jackie. One of the jobs is to meet Evelyn? I am not exactly sure what her role was. I played the scenario with Judy. Can someone explain that? The second job is to fetch a stolen robotic Flatbed or whatever?

Again, I was tired. I brewed some tea after but thinking I should have before?

Any helps appreciated.

The lore and world offers so many interesting cyber themes, but the game barely scratches the surface for any of them. Trauma Team, Psyberpsychoes, Braindance and so on. The game is at it's best when it focuses on these aspects but unfortunately it's like 90% punk and 10% cyber

Evelyn is just the client that brought the job to Dex, you go and talk to her to get more information and see the braindance which holds intel on the heist you'll be doing. The quest to get the flathead is to test V and Jackie and also a setup mission as the flathead will be needed on the heist.

Before playing the game I expected to avoid the Badlands like the plague, but it's my favorite part of the world. It helps that every single Aldecaldo member is delightful, but it's also the opportunity to drive fast without navigating labyrinthine multi-layered streets, the scarcity of brain-dead NPCs, the quiet, the absence of obnoxious billboards everywhere...no Bottoms Up guy leering at you on every street. A vast expanse of barren paradise.

It's her. If you do another quest that features her afterwards, you recognize each other.

Holy shit. I'm at 16 hours and have like 30% on the main story done and almost none of the sidequests.

50+ hours sound awesome to be tbh.

Main story racks up super fast. And the percentages don't really show correctly. Even after completing the game it stayed on 60% (middle one) 40% right one.

Te only correct one is the Street credit for me 90%

Game has been ok so far (im playing on Xbox One X)
Not really blowing me away but it's not bad at all.
Technical issues haven't been terrible but the framerate gets very rough sometimes. I've only drove for like 2 minutes cause it drops very low when driving. I just run everywhere lol

Only really bad bug I've run into so far was a boss in a side quest clipped through the floor so I couldn't finish the mission when I killed them. Impossible to complete that mission for me now :(

Also, gun play feels good but melee seems significantly easier? At least on controller in the early game.

Why is charge better than double jump?
It's more versatile.

It gets a lot more height, it can reach the same distance horizontally, and it works on flat ground to jump above enemies and create vertical distance (very good vs melee bosses).
And you can hold down the charge as soon as you leave the floor so it's ready to go again as soon as you land.

Double jump has more control if you want to bounce around platforms, but... platforming like that isn't ever really as useful in this game. It might work out better in a few specific instances, but charge has more utility.

Just need a list of console commands for items now! Disabled the warning screens and movies, which is all I really wanted, but the temptation to jump into the console and give myself all the stuff I'd need is way too tempting right now!

Edit: Should really google before posting. Looks like this is the one: https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/cyberpunk-2077-cheats-pc/ - Might set up a second save and just get all the legendary stuff to mess with...

I think you should reload and do it. That is one of the best quests in the game.

I've seen a few people say this, so even though I was about 6 hours past where I completed the mission like a professional, I reloaded for the additional content. I was pretty underwhelmed. Not sure if I missed some dialogue or what, anybody want to elaborate on why they found this mission so compelling?

I beat this a few days ago and have been mulling on it a lot. I am so conflicted about so much about what's here, obviously not helped at all by the state it launched it.

Regarding gameplay, I am really surprised at how much I like the gunplay here. It's obviously no CoD or Destiny, but for a game of this scale (ESPECIALLY compared to the witcher), they did a great job. Guns feel impactful even if some enemies can be overly spongy, there's a lot of attention and care shown in weapon animations as you pick new ones up or see various different reload animations. The weapon types feel different, tech being my favorite as a lot of early skirmishes with ping + Nekomata reminded me of Farsight from Perfect Dark as I popped heads through walls.

Regarding story, mainly the endings:

My first ending was what seems like the best one, leaving with the Nomads with Judy alongside me. But I gotta say, the actions to reach this one feel odd as hell to me. I much prefer the scenario of having Silverhand take control as it not only makes more sense than dragging a bunch of nomads in way over their head by him going with experienced people, but he realistically has much more control over his actions than V at that point. But MAAAAAAAAN I cannot stand the Johnny endings at all, the sequence where you see and talk to V is so cool but gets utterly ruined by her flip out of nowhere to actually want Johnny to stay in her body. That was not at all the direction I wanted this to go in by letting him take control, and it's frustrating the player is left out of the picture here as you have to have her basically beat the hell out of Johnny for this ending, which then ends up feeling like V gets super jaded for the depressing stuff that happens after. I saw some talk that people would like the space casino heist as DLC, but I do not want DLC to go off this ending as the whiplash I felt at the actions are not what I want to see made "canon". The game feels like it doesn't properly match the tone I had between V/Johnny since I had them be pretty friendly, so moments like this ending just feel wrong. There's also one of the sidequests where you let Johnny take over to talk to Kerry where he can only say something pretty negative about getting along with V, even though I had a good sequence at the grave earlier.

The game has some strong character moments and people I enjoyed being around, Judy being a particular highlight, but I wish you got to do more with some of them like Misty. I really dislike that early montage and genuinely wonder if that was cut from the game, as the introduction to people like T-bug doesn't even make sense and makes it hard to get emotionally invested in the first act.

I don't know if I've played a game that has so many clear signals within it that stuff was cut out while remnants remained for people to see. Why on earth is there a perk to not be spotted underwater? Hell, why is extra O2 on a bunch of gear? I've played a ton of side content and that just isn't present at all. There is a really good underwater quest, but it has no enemies or oxygen to worry about, so...

Beyond that, you can see a lot of this with cars and guns. I had a really good shotgun for awhile that was a garish pink color, I found the same shotgun multiple times beyond that which came in different colors. Same with cars, seeing some cars that have lit up undersides, you can find a free caliburn and there's another for sale that has a different paintjob. The player is given zero customization for any of this when it CLEARLY exists in some way, which is frustrating to see.

There's a shop that sells BDs, they aren't listed as "junk" like so many other things in this game, but as misc. Plus Judy gives you a portable BD helm that gets used in maybe two side missions? These BDs you can buy are not possible to use, and have no reason to be in the game.

Like, man. It sucks seeing all of that because Night City is something I wouldn't hesitate to call the best looking city I've seen realized in a game. But I can only praise it on surface level aspects, as so many of these things are needed to actually fill it out as a playerspace.

This has been hit on A TON but I'd like to go into the absolutely horrible Police system, not just in how it fails as a game mechanic but how it utterly betrays the lore the game itself presents from multiple angles. Popping in out of thin air obviously feels and looks incredibly stupid, on top of not really being remotely threatening when you do something like drive on a sidewalk as driving off in the car you're already in will leave them in the dust and lose their focus just as quickly as they pop in. But outside of this, there's the lore regarding the different regions of Night City itself. Pacifica is meant to be a partially built and abandoned shithole, completely controlled by the gangs in the area like the Voodoo Boys, and is meant to be a very dangerous place. Yet shooting someone in the face here, like anywhere else, pops in the cops where they literally don't cover at all. In the middle of the lawless goddamn desert, a land of nomad clans, the same thing happens. This SHATTERS everything they're trying to build up entirely and shows how far behind cyberpunk is in this area. Frankly, the police AI doesn't need to just be fixed but the world needs to recognize where you are and have the appropriate reaction. Gang members need to be the ones taking care of stuff in their regions at the very least, or join in to help you fight cops that try to stop you (also why do I get street cred helping cops?). Nothing like that is in the game, and it sucks.

I keep getting a feeling that they just had all hands on deck to make this possible to finish, everything else be damned. The first night city wire shows a small bit of driving with the UI, and what do ya know:

T96FfqU.png

Clearly zoomed out, so why is the version we're playing how it is? I've noticed the map often seems to struggle when you move around, the road doesn't show up and it looks like buildings vanish. It feels like they couldn't get the minimap to work properly, so they zoomed it in to hide that stuff even though it clearly makes driving fast a pain in the ass. Plus there's stuff like Racing, which CLEARLY doesn't have AI that even remotely functions for a minigame like this. They absolutely bomb big turns and crash into walls, but constantly teleport to keep up. The minimap makes this obvious again, as the car icons keep popping up behind you, going far beyond just having some cheap rubberband option. That's the kind of stuff that bums me out the most about this. I'm really, really curious what this looks like in 6 months to a year from now, as the game has so many goddamn issues that need sorted out that it sometimes gets hard to tell what was bugged or what was intentional. I really hope they can do the city they made here proper justice, but it'll be a lot of work to pull it off.

What platform are you on?

If you're on PC, then just use the console mod so you have less risk of bloating your save and corrupting it.

Otherwise : https://www.gamesradar.com/uk/cyberpunk-2077-money-glitch-unlimited/

Also, you can buy items from vending machines that cost 10 eddies each, dismantle them, craft weapons with the parts, and sell the weapons for more than it cost to make.

Question for ps5 players:

I'm currently playing on ps4 pro, while I don't have many issues with performance, one thing that has been driving me crazy, is when I am driving, and I get a text, or a call (or both) I will go to answer them and there is a very long delay (5-10 seconds I would say). Same thing happens if I try to open the map while driving.

I am assuming this is due to hardware limitations. Does the ps5 improve this or am I stuck until an actual ps5 patch? Got a ps5 coming in the mail.

That's not something I've noticed so I'd assume it's a memory issue with the PS4.
