Why is there controversy surrounding CD Projekt Red and Cyberpunk 2077?

CD Projekt Red has a history of transphobia. This is well documented at this point and not a matter of debate. Due to this context there is particular concern about transphobic or insensitive content in Cyberpunk 2077 itself, such as the decision to tie gender to voice in the character creator, and trans fetishization in illustrations in the game—and these are just examples from prerelease footage. Additionally, there have been concerns about racist imagery and stereotyping. This article goes into depth about some of these issues.

What incidents of transphobia have occurred surrounding the game and the company, and why are they hurtful?

This list will be updated over time as more examples come to light, especially as the game releases and more content is uncovered. If you wish to have something added to this list, please send me a DM and get my attention.

Why is ResetEra allowing an official thread for this game?

There has been a lot of discussion about whether there should even be an official thread for Cyberpunk 2077, and many points of view were considered for this decision. Ultimately, a thread like this can serve as a platform for minority concerns to be aired and discussed respectfully, and given appropriate attention. We've also heard from minority members, including some trans members, who have asked for a space where they can talk about the game without needing to worry about trolling and bigoted posting. We expect all posters in the thread to extend the consideration and empathy to give them that space. We will be moderating as strictly as necessary to make sure they do.

What can I do to help fight transphobia?

Transphobia exists in many aspects of our lives. From casual discrimination such as the continuous misuse of a person's preferred pronouns, to more serious ramifications such as housing being denied, legal rights being taken away, and being discriminated in the legal system. Every trans person either has experienced transphobia in their lives, or will experience transphobia at some point.

Moreover, transphobia is a systematic issue that is present in every level of our society. Politicians fight to take away our rights. Celebrities use coded language and religious justifications, if not outright hostility, in order to continue to deny our existence. Media continues to portray us as the butt of a joke, or acts like we're something to be fascinated by, rather than treated with respect.

Actions speak louder than words: Become active in your local politics, donate to transgender causes, stand up for these issues wherever they arise, and if you know transgender people in your life be there for them and support them.

Here are some pro-trans organizations around the world where you can make a donation and show your support
  • For those of you in the US, The Trevor Project is one of the leading LGBT organizations. They are dedicated to crisis intervention and suicide prevention for people who are in need of support, love, and care.
  • For those of you in the UK, Mermaids is dedicated to the support of transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse children, young adults, and their families. They have been around since 1995, and have been one of the most vocal voices speaking out against transphobia in the UK, including showing the dangers that transphobia imposes upon our youth.
  • If you would like to donate to CDPR's native country of Poland, you can find the Trans-Fuzja Foundation website here. The Trans-Fuzja Foundation has been around since 2008, and is dedicated to the support of transgender people in Poland in many aspects of life and society, including politics.
We are your friends. We are your family members. We're your coworkers. We're the people you meet on the street. We're the essential workers who keep society running in a pandemic. We're everywhere. We're not some sort of freak or joke, and we're not going away.

I want to give major thanks to Uzzy for lending her talent, time, and effort in putting together graphics and material for this official thread. Without her, this would not have been possible on such short notice. I would also like to give a shout out and thanks to Kyuuji for allowing me to use images and links from her own thread for this posts.

Can someone tell me with bounties: do I just need to knock them out/kill them? And do I get like a reward deposited or something ? Or do I need to do something after taking them out

This is interesting. Curious whether you find the 30 in this more jarring than some other games. Finding it hard to tell if it's frame pacing or just because I'm used to performance. Never usually one to mind or notice much.
I had the same issue and powered through for a couple of hours and got used to it. I think it's just having the easy toggle between 60 and 30 makes the 30 feel rough.

It makes a big difference though, I thought that game was incredibly ugly in performance mode. It's still pretty flat in spots but a lot better.

Interesting. New world for me honestly as in separate games I've been fine bouncing between 30 and 60 without a conscious thought. I did have similar for Spiderman but managed to acclimatize much swifter than I did here. Just a case of sticking to it for a bit longer I guess. 👍

I think you can only go to one direction after selecting a code.So in your example you must now choose E9 and then go to 55
The points you click become anchor points that limit your path. You can only go in straight lines from the last thing you clicked.
You select one and then you can only select in the vertical column from that. Select one in that column and then you can only select one in the horizontal row from that last selection.

Horizontal, vertical, horizontal, vertical etc.

So just plan a route out that includes the order(s) you need and then action. You can also combine them so if you're looking for AA BB CC and CC DD you can input AA BB CC DD and it will work.
You pick from the first row, and then the column below it, and it alternates row-column from there. You can pick values that are wrong to get to the row/column you want, so long as the desired sequence is in order at some point. So here, you'd go row 1 - 55, colum 3 - 1C, row 5 - 55 to get 1C 55.

Thanks. This thing was driving me nuts.

I am way happier with Series X quality mode than I thought I would be
It's about what I expected pre-release, but just 30fps instead of 60 fps so I can live with that

Digital Foundry kinda nailed it in that it is basically what you would have expected the One X to look like

What do you mean by it's capped? You get no exp after a certain point for your handgun for instance?
Right. Your handgun skill level will only go as high as your Reflex attribute. Perks are locked behind the attribute, not the skill level, so it's not a huge deal, but you do get bonuses from the skills being leveled.
Is there a good way to level crafting beyond... crafting stuff? I'm level 18 and want to level it, but all I can make are green weapons and healing items/grenades (I have way too many already). Would those green weapons still be relevant to my level if I make them now?

The game was pretty front loaded already with a ton of info, I just ignored crafting altogether until now.
Yeah, just craft stuff. You get minor XP for disassembling stuff with the dissassemble junk perk too. The better the items and more components required, the more XP. Upgrading gets you a lot of XP too.

I think that crafting pops out stuff relevant to your level, so the green stuff should be usable-ish, especially after you upgrade it. But at level 18, there should be blue schematics easy to pick up in stores for 3-5k. Fast travel around to weapon stores until you find the weapon schematic you want.

10 hours in and loving the game so far. I was wondering however. Is there some. Sort of big casino in the game? Would love to see what a Cyberpunk casino would look like

From 'quake area to big OH.
What's the consensus on grain and CA? I normally don't disable stuff. Does it really make things look better, or just individual preferences.

Does the photo mode disable them automatically?
And do any settings help with perf?

Cool thanks for the info. I was selling guns for awhile, I'll just start disassembling everything now and see what I can make.

Kinda confused att the act 1 to 2 transition.
So Takemura finds V in the dump, and calls Yorinobu to tell him he found his father's killer (V).
NExt scene Takemura is helping me, and doesn't want to bring me to Yorinobu.

I first thought that something happened while V was off commision, but in the first story mission that follows, Takemura casual mentions in passing how V told him about the patricide. However, as V, I wasn't shown antything of the sort.
Will this be explained, or was the content cut like (presumably) the first ellipse after the prologue?

What the heck I'm i doing wrong here. I can select the first row just fine. But when I go the row with 55, it then won't let me navigate left.
You start in Row 1, and choose one entry. Afterwards, you are locked in the column of this entry, and have to choose the next one. Then you are locked in the row of that entry, and so on.

So in that case, you should have (for example) started at 55 in the row 1, gone to 1C on the bottom, and then to the 55 on the left.

If I buy the game now for Series X I will be able to get a refund after few hours if something is wrong right? Still on the fence but this new patch sounds pretty good and I love what i heard about the game.
I've never had an issue getting a refund from MS in the past. Having said that you should be fine on the Series X in quality mode. The game runs and looks great. It is no more buggy to me than The Witcher 3 at launch which I could see turning people off but it is fine for me. Just don't go in expecting a sandbox like GTA or Skyrim. It is a very story focused curated action adventure RPG ala The Witcher 3 just in FPS with guns.

Disassembling takes off when you get the perk that unlocks schematics for upgrading component quality, so I'd definitely beeline for that. Otherwise, you're only getting good components from buying them (very expensive) or dissassembling blue+ drops.

On my 4th hard crash in 7 hours, this thing is rough! (PS5)

Most annoying thing is that when you load a save after a crash, it resets a bunch of settings (graphics preferences, subtitles etc)

Are there patch notes for the series X update? Just bug fixes? Has it fixed major bugs like the 10 second hangs or blocking use of the Xbox button?

Called someone using V's phone, dialogue choices and all that, cool it adds depth to the quest, I close the phone and turn back to enter my car and I heard some noise coming exactly from where I talked and bam game did spawn that NPC on that exact location so that it can give me dialogue choices normally this should happen in the background obviously but the NPC was visible it creeped the hell out fo me. This fucking game man.

You miss the assassins coming after you and Takemura? That's an Arasaka hit squad, they're after both of you because you might blab the truth to Takemura.
