So I'm in the wrong for finding the fact that I had to do the level for 2 hours, ten to fifteen minutes at a time per run, only to fail, try again, fail try again, fail, try again, for hours and hours? I'm wrong for finding that unfun? I'm incorect for feeling frustrated that I wasted 2 hours, 90% of that time NOT being the part where I struggled, but going to that part?
i found it fun

Just so I get it right, are you going though the game expecting to 100% each level before moving on? If you want to go for 106% I would recommend moving between levels a lot and coming back to stuff you weren't able to do before, to break up the frustration and get to stuff you might actually manage to do.

It's what I do and it really does help with pacing and fun.

Fine. Screw it. I won't have this site laughing at me for not being able to do this. I'll stay up all night even if it ruins my job tomorrow to beat this godforsaken level. Anything to stop people on this site from laughing at me.

A rule I tell myself is I don't find a game fun, I give up trying to complete the game fully and maybe if I'm in the mood, spoil myself to any endings and extra content by visiting YouTube.

I love Crash 4. Despite how frustrating it can get at parts, man is it satisfying to knock out a perfect relic, or time relic, etc. But this is coming from someone who aced Celeste. Platformers are my jam.

I can echo the sentiment on the longer levels like Crash Landing and Rush Hour. When you get the relic it does feel liberating though and you can finally move on.

No one's laughing. Drop the game if it's making you act like this this. Not everything is for everyone.

It's absolutely deserving of scorn because the developers want you to do it.
Trust me the developers don't expect everybody to 106% the game. And they sure as hell don't expect people to 100% a level before going to the next one, this is just madness and yeah, not fun.
If you want to get frustrated, this is the perfect way of doing it. You are talking like you are trapped into doing all the *optional* challenges.
Some people enjoy this kind of tryhard challenge, some don't, and if you don't enjoy it, don't do it.

I originally was 100%ing each level until I got past that first "world" and the added difficulty made it not fun. Now my method is to beat a world, go back and do everything I can and then if I can't do the rest I'll do it post-game. No need for it now.

Why does it take so long to load the level from restart level than when you die? IT'S LOADING EXACTLY THE SAME THING!
Dying is probably just resetting the last recorded state of boxes broken from level data already loaded in the memory at the checkpoint. Restarting a stage needs to treat it like you're re-entering from the map so absolutely everything is reloaded to guarantee it's in the default state to avoid any weird issues is my guess?

I'd like to see how much loads like these improve on the PS5 through BC though.

I know you're banned right now, but no one is laughing at you. I've died like 80+ times on stages people in this thread seemingly breezed by. Every one is at a different skill level and completes things at their own rate; don't feel pressured to do things in a certain way if you're not having fun.

My own word of advice is to put aside 106%-ing the game until after you beat it.That ease of mind instantly increased the fun factor 10 fold. I'll slowly return and clean up the stages at my own pace later. No shame in that.

I'm on the cleanup stage. 12/38 plats and 25/38 n.sanely relics. It's fun, but I usually only do 2 levels per session so as not to get burned out. 30 hours to get this far and I still have to run the game a third time for inverted.

I was kinda burnt out when i beat the final boss. I was ready to not return to the game but i took a 2 day breather snd came back, focusing on one level and gem at the time max two stages per session as well. Good strategy!
Stages are fun as hell when not focusing on deaths or crates, just a simple run through shows how the level design is really good.

Got it on loan from my brother, I love how it's similar to the old games but still manages to make it fresh. It's hard as hell so prob won't get too far into it, but I'm glad I tried it.
The little bit of delay when jumping is slightly off putting, don't know if it's just me or anyone else feel that?

Grew up with the original games and have been loving this. It's very demanding at times and far too difficult for me to contemplate getting all the boxes, etc.

But it's a lot of fun just getting through the levels.

Wrapped up the main game the other night and still not sure how to feel. It's definitely the best feeling Crash game, I never felt like the controls were the reason for dying. Theres a lot of level variety visually so each level feels different unlike the original three games. And theres plenty of individual parts of levels I like but theres just a lot of tiny things that sort of soured the game for me once they all get added up. The repeated levels for the new characters, the hidden crates and bonus stages and the tapes all being the same crate bouncing stuff. The tapes especially should have been the place to get weird and push the level design to interesting places but it's all basically the same thing and sometimes has too much backtracking. Each mechanic in the game feels like it still has untapped potential because they introduce stuff like the masks but dont go all the way.

I do wish there was more stuff like the final gauntlet in the castle which had you swapping masks really quickly. That was my favourite part of the game since it finally made use of the masks in more interesting ways but it was over pretty quickly. I haven't done the coloured gem path so maybe theres more there.

I feel like the tapes did very interesting stuff with the crates. Stuff like nitro bouncers or the timed bridges made for some challenging and smart platforming.

Definitely agree with the masks, though. I personally loved the final segment of Cortex Castle but would have hoped to see more like it. I REALLY hope that if they do make a Crash 5 (fingers crossed) they don't give up on the quantum masks and instead flesh them out more gameplay-wise. The last cutscene of
them hanging out with the gang playing games
makes me hopeful

Because that's how you 106% the game. That's how you get the golden ending. So I will refuse to even continue playing beyond a level until I complete it. Which makes the absolutely insane, unfair, unfun design of N Sanely Perfect Relics infuriating. It's actively punishing me for wanting to complete the game. It's absolutely deserving of scorn because the developers want you to do it.

The 106% ending is the reward for people who are willing to go the extra mile and do everything in the game, it's not supposed to be easy. And no I don't think that the devs want you do it, they probably knew the majority wouldn't be able to do it.

64% of progress, I'm almost reaching half of the N. Sanely Perfect relics and almost half of the normal and n. verted gems. I just finished Off-Beat.

About the Platinum relics... I know that the triple spin is one trick to make possible to achieve those relics, but I think there's another trick which is Slide + Spin. The problem is that I can't keep it up while i'm trying to do the trick. Anyone knows more or less how the pace works?

Just got to 'Run It Bayou' where they introduce the timed crates, and (by complete chance) I found some crates hidden from view as you come down the steps at the very beginning of the level; they are right against the wall of the steps you're coming down, so obscured by the perspective of the camera.

Stuff like that is just lame. If I made it to the end and all I missed was those two crates, I'd just feel like I wasted my time.

Played "Run It Bayou" and oh boy, that level sure isn't gonna be fun to do an all crate run, let alone a damn N. Sanely Perfect run. Least the yellow gem was....surprisingly easy. Honestly, the blue gem was probably the only hard one. Kind of surprised I got all the colored gems already.

Though man, this game has the same problem as Crash 2 in that trying to go backwards in a level is so damn hard due to the camera being so close & not wanting to zoom out so you can see more.

There's actually six crates hidden there. Two at each 'step'

Man, the run at the end of Run It Bayou -- the hoverboard does not control well enough for that kind of level. Yeesh.

Is anyone here a not-so-great gamer like me, attempting to 106% this shit? I feel like I don't have any hope for achieving this goal with my average skills. If there's a regular schmo like me somehow managing to make progress, it might give me some hope, but for now seeing stages like the Bear levels or the end of Crate Escape and knowing I need to complete a perfect, deathless run while getting all crates is filling me with dread (and no, I haven't even reached Cortex Castle yet 😰).

Wonder how the OG Crash team feels about this game.

If the past sequels/reboots were "Like watching your daughter do porn" then this is probably seeing her become a PhD.

A tip for that (especially if trying to get all of the boxes) is to flip the board around and basically drive down the section backwards with Crash facing the camera. It really slows you down and gives you more room and time to maneuver.

Despite a "good" but not great experience with Crash Landed (as wee as a few issues), and being in the last world, I've been having a blast being challenged and having some moments of awe at Crash 4, really liking it so far.

A good tip for slide + spin is to not abuse it quickly, unless you're approaching a wall or gap in the floor, which you can shorten the distance. But if you're traversing a stretch of land you only need to spin close to the end of the dash. It makes it easier for your fingers to repeat the actions constantly.

I just finished Cortex Castle and the timeline counterpart. Honestly, it was not too difficult for me. I loved the swift transitions between the masks and how it changed the gameplay through the finish line. I personally found it much easier compared to my first attempts at the all-gem route. Can't wait to try and do a no death run of them.

It may take time to get used to, but the right joystick does wonders for awkward angles like that. I also wanna give a shoutout for the right joystick as well for making it much easier to locate hidden crates. I use it constantly in my playthroughs.

If I wanted to get all the boxes while trying not to hit the nitro and mines I had to boost the hoverboard against the stream while steering carefully. It's a very tough part indeed.

I'm 66% BTW... and tomorrow I'm going to suffer with Run it Bayou too. I'm not sure if I will get the N. Sanely Perfect Relic, lol.

I'm really, really enjoying my second playthrough of Crash 4. Like, don't get me wrong, I had lot of fun my first time around, but I'm just really digging this game on my new playthrough. The initial annoyance of the hidden boxes isn't really a thing anymore since I'm a lot more familiar with the layouts. Hell, even the N. Sanely Perfect Relics aren't giving me that much trouble.
There was a thread on the Crash subreddit that used that Lisa Simpson meme to say something akin to "our frustration with the hidden box placement and N. Sanely Perfect Relics is due to our unfamiliarity with the levels" and I do think there is some truth to this. But even still they need to slow their roll with that stuff in Crash 5 lol

One of the game journalism outlets definitely needs to get Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin together on couch and have them play this on YouTube.
Considering that Jason wondered if Crash can even work past the nostalgia of the games he worked on, I think both of them would be impressed with TfB's work on Crash 4.

Thank you! I've sort of commited to just finishing the game rather than getting everything -- because I feel ill enjoy it more that way. But I know in my gut I'll be tempted back for trophies later.

Just started the game, and i like it fine enough for now, nice plateforming and nice levels! But one thing that bothers me is how the crates are often not visible at all! Their color just blend with the background and even when they're not supposed to be hidden, you can miss them

Didn't have that issue in the originals and n'sane trilogy

Doing the N.Sane run for Run it Bayou is a stuff of nightmares.

I made it nearly to the end so many times, only to die at some stupid mistake of my own.
