I still end up impressed whenever they directly transition into a cutscene.
I thought of that specifically when uploading this Dollet one:Pre-rendered background + fixed camera angles can make every scene look beautiful. It was a genius workaround for ps1 era games, and i still love them. It always had a certain charm to them.
lol never played but this sounds funny. Need an example 🤔On the other hand, there were some games that used some semi-obnoxious backgrounds that were so animated that I guess they were basically FMV being used as a background, which so inflated file sizes that not only were the games too many discs long, but you had to swap discs just to go back to earlier towns. I think Legend of Dragoon was one of them.

Yeah but I don't think many animated. The monster arena entrance might have had animated elements I don't remember 🤔FFX had these kind of cool backgrounds too right? Even from the same OP :p
Final Fantasy X's pre-rendered backgrounds
Underappreciated (and fewer) compared to the PS1 Final Fantasies, but also comfy. Nothing to more to say really so (last one is my favourite):www.resetera.com
think youre right on that one unfortunately, just what the topic title reminded me of so I was looking up examples and saw your old post lolYeah but I don't think many animated. The monster arena entrance might have had animated elements I don't remember 🤔
No! But the lights on the dollet bridge pulse so maybe it counts.

I'd love to see something like this with modern tech, shame Square didn't have the original assets preserved well enough for the various remasters.I just wish they still existed as an option for big budget games
It's always been time to enjoy them, they're all gorgeous.
VIII was really amazing for this
Man oh man, I always loved those transition scene.
I remember in the lead up to the NA release I had basically spoiled myself a ton by watching dumps of the FMVs and watching them without the characters overlaid on top was really confusing for a few sequences, especially the prison.
