Currently debating if it's worth it to sell my 4K 60hz monitor and get a 1440p 144hz monitor in order to take advantage of the 120 FPS that we will see in (hopefully) mos competitive games. What are my fellow console gamers looking at or have you already purchased a monitor? Just wanted to see what everyone else is doing.

For PC the answer is wihtout a doubt 1440p 144HZ imo, but since I'm unsure how many console games will have native 1440p modes or >60Hz modes I would probably go 4k60

I mean PS5 dont even support 1440p so if you buying it for PS5 Sony made the decision for you

4K 60hz easily. Not enough console games out there that will take advantage of 144hz (and that's coming from a person with a 1440p/100hz monitor.)

I've heard good things about the LG 27UK650-W.

4k60, most games on either console won't be high frame rate and the one console chooses not to support 1440 at all

If you are buying both get the 4k if you are buying only the Xbox the case can be made for either and ps5 only get the 4k

Makes no sense to get 1440p/144hz monitor for a gaming console. 120hz won't be as common as most people here think.

I want to know the reason Sony isn't supporting 1440p. It has deflated my hype so hard because I only have an ancient 1080p TV besides my super nice 1440p screen.

Definitely not worth selling your current 4k/60 monitor for console gaming. At least not with what we have at the moment. Maybe this will change later on in the generation, but then I'd imagine by then 1440p/144 monitors will also be cheaper, so no reason to change now.

I don't think many games will support 120Hz, so go for 4k/60Hz. There are some nice, cheap ones with HDR.

4K 60HZ, I'm using the BenQ EL2870u on my Xbox Series X and it works great for a good price it's 4K 60HZ with Freesync for VRR and HDR

4K, 60hz!!!

OP haven't you heard? PS5 is not even going to support 1440p.. lol. Better off with a 4K.

Plus many next games will not reach 120hz. Probably mostly racing and FPS games like Halo and such.

I honestly didn't know that the PS4 didn't support 1440p lol that's a huge bummer.

Am I naive in thinking that most competitive consoles games will support 120 FPS? Like I fully expect games like COD, Overwatch 2, Rainbow Six to offer a performance and fidelity mode to be able to achieve those higher framerates and be more on par with PC.

if you're using a PS5 with it definitely don't go with the 1440p/144Hz one. PS5 doesn't support 1440p output.

Yep. I even refused to finish my PS4 exclusives because on my old 1440p, it was downscaled to 1080p.

Just bought a LG CX last month (4K, 120hz). Best purchase ever. Seeing Horizon Zero Dawn at 4K HDR is something else. Felt like I was already playing on the PS5!

I'm still shocked that Sony doesn't support 1440p. But it's whatever to me now.

not naive at all. i'm waiting for hdmi 2.1 monitors because competitive games this gen will def do 120

I have a 4K60 monitor and if I got the money back I'd buy the same monitor again. I don't see 120fps modes prevailing once cross gen is over (besides ultra competitive games).

Only you know how competitive you are.

I really have a hard time seeing a ton of games supporting 120 FPS this generation. I think we'll see a bunch support it early, because it's a novel feature, but once they see how few people own a 120Hz TV they will default to 4K 60FPS. Hope I'm wrong, but that's usually how stuff like this goes. Feel the same way about the Dual Sense controllers.

I can't imagine many games targeting 120fps especially in a few years. Not to mention the PS5 doesn't support 1440p output

I went with 1440p that supports gsync and freesync so i can use it on my PC/xbox series x. I planned on also using it on my ps5 but unfortunately it doesn't fucking support it for some reason and i hope they can change it via firmware later. I'm not touching 4k monitors until hdmi 2.1 w/ great HDR is out and reasonably priced.

How can so many people vote for 1440p/144Hz ??

a) 1440p isn't supported by PS5 (yet, and maybe never will), so you'd be getting 1080p upscaled by your monitor then.
b) That Unreal Engine 5 Demo running on PS5 was 1440p/30fps... so how long do you think we'll be getting games with more than 60fps? That's only gonna happen in the first 1-2 years and beyond that only for indie games... or as an "ultra performance super ugly" mode option.

it's a complete no-brainer to go 4k/60Hz. Those are usually cheaper or have higher IQ at the same price too.

Fornite's next gen patch isn't even doing 120 on console so it's definitely not a sure bet.
Once Fortnite skipped 120fps my expectations were significantly adjusted. And there's only going to be less 120fps after the cross-gen period, not more.

I wouldn't buy a display that doesn't afford me the option though.

Anyone have a good 4K/60 monitor they can recommend? Just found out my old 4K monitor isn't goign to do 4K on the Sereis X and I doubt it works on the PS5 either

Can someone recommend me a good 4K monitor for ps5? Having trouble deciding. Looking for good HDR also, 5 ms response time or less is preferred

Makes no sense to get 1440p/144hz monitor for a gaming console. 120hz won't be as common as most people here think.

It only doesn't make sense for PS5 players, because the system has a missing feature. It makes plenty of sense for any system that supports it, especially since 120hz/performance modes generally don't target 4K anyway, even if HDMI 2.1 supports it. Price factors in, too. From my experience, 1440p monitors with high refresh rates, HDR, and fast response times are cheaper and more common than a 4K equivalent, even at 60hz.

Can anyone confirm a monitor that works 1440p with 120hz??

Gigabyte G32QC, which also has 1ms (MPRT) pixel response time.

If it was PC I would say 1440/144hz. But we don't know how many console games will be running at 120 fps to say that it would be a better choice
