Seriously. Argentina was a no go because of their Covid situation. Colombia because their political situation. And they chose Brazil.

Of course, there should be no Copa America this year, but why on earth would Conmebol make a reasonable decision.

Translation:

Brazil will host CONMEBOL @America Cup 2021! The best soccer in the world will bring joy and passion to millions of South Americans. CONMEBOL thanks the President @jairbolsonaro and his team, as well as the Brazilian Football Confederation @CBF_Futebol for opening the doors of that country to what is today the safest sporting event in the world. South America will shine in Brazil with all its stars!

what an utter disgrace.

Shouldn't have been anywhere. Fucking useless tournament.
Putting sanitary concerns aside, why are these idiot confederations holding continental tournaments when they know they won't have enough time for World Cup qualifiers next year in the first place? CONMEBOL already skipped a date in March!

Pretty sure Brazil is gonna enter a sustained protest wave very soon.

Maybe it's not time to have Copa América when América is in turmoil.

That Argentina became a no-go so close to the date of start left them with little viable options (countries that could reasonably be prepared to host this in such a short notice). Ideally they should have postponed, but perhaps moving to the US/Canada (if at all possible) would have been better than this.

Bold to have a "Copa America" without North or Central America..

Well, they used to invite Concacaf´s "stronger" teams during the 90s early 2000s , Mexico even played finals Vs Argentina and Colombia and several 3rd places in a row.

I can't speak about US or Concacaf as a whole, but the Mexican federation cut ties with CONMEBOL because.....well basically CONMEBOL are unfair pricks.

In an ideal situtation, every Copa America should be like Copa America Centenario (2016) where you had teams from both Conmebol and Concacaf. Having two tournaments in one continent is stupid.
There's a whole lot of variation on what Continents are (in particular their number), with regards to "America" and "Eurasia":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent#Number

In any case, the number of teams in Central America would make it quite a challenge (though, perhaps better for the overall improvement of the sport in the area).

CONMEBOL wants the money that team like Mexico brings ratings and fans, but it was also afraid of Mexico winning so they placed rules that invited teams could not bring their A team, so Mexico started sending crappy b and c teams.they stoped inviting Mexico.

Mexico sent their B and C teams to south america because they always prioritize the copa de oro.

And hell, let's not forget the last time that Mexico played with their A team against the reigning Copa America champion in the Centenario cup

Yup, pretty much. People here think they have it bad with UEFA, they know nothing compared to how corrupt CONMEBOL (And even CONCACAF) are.

True in part, but that is not how it started , Mexico sent its C team on 2011 and 2015 because of CONMEBOL rules. After this they were excluded until recently.

Do you have a source for that? the news always said that it was Mexico not being interested in the 2015 edition of the Copa America, I have never heard Conmebol not letting them come with their best players, even here the coach says that they don't want to send players here

www.bbc.com

¿Por qué México menosprecia la Copa América? - BBC News Mundo

La selección, que debuta este viernes con Bolivia, participa con un equipo alternativo y reserva a sus estrellas para la Copa de Oro de la Concacaf, que comienza en julio. ¿Qué hay detrás de la decisión del "Piojo" Herrera?

And here says that the Conmebol was angry at Mexico for sending ther b teams to the copa america, so that's why they stopped inviting them

eldiariony.com

¿Por qué México ya no disputa la Copa América? - El Diario NY

Luego de asistir a varias ediciones, el Tri ya no fue invitado y aquí te decimos qué ha pasado.

This idea that Conmebol is scared of a team that never pass beyond quarter finals in the world cup and that isn't always the winner of copa de oro is laughable to be honest

Pernambuco's state government is positioning itself against holding any games. I wonder how many others will follow.

¿Por qué México no juega la Copa América?

Al igual que los equipos de Liga MX con los torneos Conmebol, la Selección Mexicana dejó de disputar la Copa América y el 2021 no será la excepción.

Hahaha....

Well it's just a matter to see the Mexico's track record in the tournament from 1993 to 2007 and you pretty much can make a case what they are totally scared (let me know if you need source for that too) , let's not even talk about Libertadores and Mexican clubs performance (and the referee fuckery in the finals they played)

There shouldn't be any sports at all happening on a professional level in South America the way the things are here.
But I bet this helps put people in a mindset of relative normalcy.

My opinion on this matter is the same as former soccer AND Big Brother Brasil player, Hadson "Hadbala" Nery:

Why the fuck are we having tournaments here when we don't even have vaccines??? The pandemic worsened in Argentina, can you imagine here in Brasil, where it never got any better?
