So assuming that everyone has actually answered honestly, and using these averages that I've largely just made up (but trying to be conservative)

$1-60 Average: $20
$60-150 Average: $100
$150-300 Average: $200
$300-1000 Average: $500
$1000-3000 Average: $1500
$3000+ Average: $4000

The current average is about $172.50 per person.

Now, that is an average of the maximum people have spent so it probably isn't accurate to what an average game would make. But it's substantially over the average price of a game

EDIT: updated the average spend

Zero, Zilch, Zip, Nada, Nil, Fuck all, Nothing.
As much as I loved Overwatch back in the day I never spent any real money on its MTX, I am against these kind of practices in principle.

Spent like 150 euros on Warframe platinum when I got the 75 percent off discount. Never spent money on another game.

0. Never have paid for a single microtransaction. Not in F2P games, CERTAINLY not in paid games. If I ever did pay for one it would be on a F2P game, I'll never pay microtransactions on top of paying for a game, just out of principle. But I don't think I'll ever pay for one in a F2P game, either. If it's pay 2 win, I don't want to play the game anyway. If it's just for cosmetic stuff, I'll ignore it and just roll with whatever the game gives me for free. If everything can be obtained without paying I'll just do that. For example in Apex Legends I just farmed enough red currency to get the characters which is what I care about. Maybe someday I'll pay for the battle pass but I heavily doubt it lol. Don't see the worth.

Altogether, the most I've spent on a single game is probably around $150, but that was in chunks of $20-30 several times over a couple years.

Don't regret it at all.

Yeah I spent £200-£300 a year for about 4 years on Fifa ultimate team. Loved that shit. Then rocket league came out now that's my competitive online game. I've spent probably £20 on rocket league in 4 years and it was on ps plus so all good.

I probably spent between £100 - £200 on fut packs in fifa 19 for my son and I'll probably spend something similar on fifa 20. Don't spend anything for myself though.

Pretty sure I've spent over a hundred on Fortnite skins. Oh man am I glad I'm nowhere near as invested in that game like I used to be.

You can see from the poll how whale heavy mxt are. The majority of the money is made by the top 10 percent spenders. The rest is kind of insignificant.

i usually sink $100-$300 into every card game i try

it's unfortunate that they all focus on these garbage pay-to-win constructed modes. if they do have limited, it's just treated as a different way to transform time/money into cards instead of as a properly designed game mode

i miss real strategy games

Hmm... no exact numbers but I know I have used mtx in three games

League of Legends
Pokemon Go
Clash Royale

I think I could have spent about 200$ in total or so. Maybe more maybe less but that's my guess

When I was really into Dota 2 I spend like 100€ on cosmetics. Fortnite might be close to that as well because of Battle Passes, although I also quit that game now.

I spent a fair amount on Marvel Heroes Online. I don't remember exactly how much and can't exactly check given the game servers are no longer online, but it was upwards of $150.

Edit: Checking my Steam transactions, it would be between $300-400 from May, 2013, through November, 2017.

I actually think jimsterlings suggestion that games with addictive mtx should carry mature ratings is a somewhat viable solution.

Bought hundreds of Rock Band songs but like others, I'm not sure what that falls under.

Also not sure what I spent on Marvel Heroes Omega but after the game went under I had everything refunded.

So potentially I've either spent zero or hundreds depending on how you look at it.

i don't think so. it's just that the general public outnumbers us 1000:1.
Games like FIFA, and other sports games and other games with high MTX purchases not very popular here on this forum wether in any of the threads or even their OT's even though their like top selling games etc

Also doubt majority of people out there watch or up to date of these gaming news channels or articles about how MTX is bad etc unlike people here more aware of it

I used to spend a fair bit - Overwatch, Fortnite, Pokemon Go, Bleach Brave Souls...I used to drop £30 on loot boxes every time an Overwatch event rolled around. Now I've thankfully kicked the habit almost entirely.

There is way too big of a jump between 150-300 and 300-1000. It sounds like a lot when you say between 300-1000, but in reality you could have spend 350 and thats a long way from 1000...

I have spend around $200 on Hearthstone, but it's a bit of a grey area since you cant play the game without cards...

Dota 2 was the only game with MTX I got deep into. Spent probably just over the cost of a full priced game by the end of my time, with about 200 hours clocked along the way.

Zero. I have been digusted by microtransactions in games since forever, so i never support it even for games i love.

I have played MMOs with monthly subs, bought like 2 season passes and have purchased game expansions.

Im also not a fan of season passes and its the reason im still waiting for a physical Complete edition to purchase Spider-Men.

the first season pass for Rocket League (subsequent ones are essentially free) and arround 20€ for keys prior to season passes.

$50

$20 on MB coins in MGSV, and $30 on jewels in the KHUX mobile game. Was a long time ago for both of these, but they still haunt me.

I must've spent about £50-100 (maybe more) on FIFA Ultimate Team a few years ago, I'd guess it was FIFA 16.

The mode is entirely pay-to-win, or rather pay-for-the-chance-to-win, and if you go deep with it it's basically guaranteed you need to pay money. It's gambling and pay to win wrapped into one, I have no idea how the backlash isn't much bigger. It's a game for kids ffs.

Haven't properly touched Ultimate Team in years now, and I'm not missing anything.

0. With a caveat. I bought a No Ads thing on a free to play game that i played for hours. As far as i'm concerned that was me paying for the game, not really an MT. Though it technically was an MT.
