Well Immortal Hulk vol. 7 is out. Time to wrestle with myself to see if the only comic in years to make me cry is worth supporting a fucking asshole like Joe Bennett.

The Greg Land women either look like they over acting seeing a big sword or pretending to have an orgasm

The men look like fucbois

Last issue of Empyre was good stuff, wrapped everything up nicely.
Although Thor turning up with a new power that he acquired completely off panel was hmm.

It's canon that everyone wants to fuck Noh Varr

It's definitely canon stated somewhere because everyone talks about how hot he is makes sense he bags Hercules
Noh-Var was only good when Morrison wrote him.

Under Bendis he was boring and directionless.

Under Gillen he was insufferable.

Do not want, thanks.

That Axel interview is also insane because that was during the promos for the start of the ANAD era.

I have to think he also nuked Angela/Sera, no gay heroes but gay friends are ok.

When i read the book expect me making another rant about Thor being op but we have to pretend he isn't

You just can't handle his raw sexual energy

Didn't Sina Grace who wrote iceman talk about how he was told by higher ups not to make his books too gay

Empyre #6 was definitely solid - as far as a "final event issue" I don't think you could really ask for more. All the plot threads, some great punchy dialogue (man, if/when Ewing gets Avengers, they better put T'Challa on there - he's got the perfect voice for him). I definitely felt like I was missing some pieces, like the FF issues, the missing Thor one-shot, Immortal She-Hulk... but that's the event business. Just gonna have to buy the omnibus I guess!

And to be honest, I see a lot of Slott's fingerprints on the plotting here - a lot of moving pieces balanced very well. It's a collaboration I'd like to see more of, they play to each other's strengths.

But yeah, GOTG #6 was the real highlight. I love how episodic the series has been - it doesn't feel "written for the trade" like to many modern books.

Just be careful! The meme trace is from Larroca, not Land.

I know. Do I ever... with being a SW fan. That´s why I mention him in my 2nd post. Larroca isn´t a hack but he can do some real damage if the deadlines overtake him or energy runs dry. It´s a miracle comic art hasn´t become a legal minefield in the last 2 decades with how much-copyrighted photos have been abused.

Manga ain't spared from this either. Dragon Ball Super´s manga goes above and beyond. It can kill careers though. Yuki Suetsugu´s reputation was trashed for years when she was caught and she had her books pulled. Kodansha still gave her a 2nd chance 2 years later and Chihayafuru came about. Not a fan myself but it prints money in Japan.

Ewing has always had a deep, deep love for T'challa and it just shines through every time he's on panel. Damn

I didn't know about the Chihayafuru author, the wikipedia entry on her feels like a roller coaster:

Yuki Suetsugu (Japanese: 末次由紀, Hepburn: Suetsugu Yuki, born September 8, 1975) is a Japanese manga artist. Her career was put on hiatus in October 2005, after she was discovered being guilty of plagiarism, including tracing. She later resumed her work in March 2007.

She debuted in 1992 in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine with Taiyō no Romance. Her works later moved to Bessatsu Friend magazine, also published by Kodansha.

On March 24, 2009, her work Chihayafuru was chosen for the Manga Taishō.

On June 5, 2020, she came forward to support Black Lives Matter.[2]

She supported Kenji Utsunomiya for the 2020 Tokyo gubernatorial election.[3]

Maybe someone can help me out. Did Joe Bennett retract or apologize for any of his transphobic statements?

Am I getting too caught up in this? I went off on one in those Harry Potter threads because of Rowling being a TERF. I don't want to be a hypocrite.

Ewing's already written more good Avengers comics than most. If you count No Road Home and No Surrender, he's got 100 issues.

either way, elena casagrante is your next superstar artist, and thompson is going for odd callbacks and even stranger pulls; it's dope
Seriously, I just read the issue and after the first 3-4 pages I had to go back and check the credits because god damn. That's some dope artwork. Has some Joelle Jones vibes while also being very unique. I'm gonna keep an eye on whatever Casagrande does next

Edit: so apparently she filled in on some Catwoman issues and other DC stuff and has done some Doctor Who and X Files series. huh.

What's fucking annoying is that my Reddit post on that is the only coverage the Instagram post got. Just to make clear, he did apologize for saying Glen Greenwald should be punched after the journalist was slapped in a homophobic attack. And the transphobic Instagram post was at least deleted, but never mentioned anywhere.

Personally, I think Ewing is worth supporting more than Bennet is worth trying to deplatform.

If it was just a Bennett book, I wouldn't be reading it. The fact that he's not the only artist on it and Ewing is writing the run of his life keeps me from dropping it. His art on this book is admittedly incredible. Just don't go get his signature.

Like, the guy isn't JK Rowling. He doesn't have her power and influence, but I'd still be willingly giving my money to his continued employment at Marvel.

But like, where does that end? I've never had to think about it before, I guess.

Wow Empyre #6 once again makes me miss the Thor mini hard.

Yup. That should come out as a trade, or at least refashioned into an issue of Thor. He's the Gaia-born, or whatever now? Okay?

if you were wondering what kind of trainwreck idiot would own a copy of the J. Scott Campbell variant for Black Widow #1, it's me

You are now EIC of Aspen Comics.

my favorite tom king comic released today is guardians of the galaxy #6

lol

I wish Tom was back on Twitter so we could see him reacting to it.

edit: Whoa! He is back on Twitter to promote the new Strange Adventures.

I wish for a million dollars and world peace I guess!

It didn't really blow up that much, and I don't think Ewing is gonna pay much attention. Some people are just coworkers. Bennett hasn't even done the last couple issues of Immortal Hulk. It's been Sandoval. It'd be different if Bennett snuck it into the book (like Ardian Syaf and his anti-semitism with X-Men Gold) or was majorly speaking out, but shooting out one Insta and then deleting it shortly after. I mean what's there to say publicly? Maybe Ewing did say something behind the scenes and we don't know. And this also isn't a JKR scenario. In that case, you are supporting her almost exclusively and her platform which she actively uses her EXTREMELY large amounts of money to fund other platforms. Bennett is just an artist doing contract work for a large corporation making shitty social media commentary that the majority are overlooking. Buying that book isn't just supporting him, it's supporting a property and other people on it.

Not justifying it, but just saying it's a very different scenario.

Ouch, but you're 100% right

Like Cates isn't gonna have him glow green in the next issue. Maybe in Avengers we'll get a lil flashback to what would have happened in the tie-in?

edit: Strange Adventures was fantastic. It's intriguing but seeing our protagonists cosy up to /manipulate DC's version of Trump to start what's obviously going to be an unjustified genocide (edit: against machine creatures. It's a Descender prequel) is mad conflicting 😂.

I wonder if Mitch is mad that Doc got to draw this King maxi-series' fuck scene.

I want to like Tynion's Batman but...it's a Joker story. And I just...dislike the Joker so much. He gets so much fanfare he doesn't deserve. He deserves to be a bit player at best. He's not cool. Just some fucking clown. Jason blowing his brains out and him being forgotten is all he deserves.

I just think about how much cooler this would've been if it had been a Ra's story. An actually worthy rival for Batman.

This could've been a dope ass Riddler story tbh
Actually having typed that out Punchline as Riddler's partner instead of Joker's would have been way cooler.

It's barely a Joker story. He's not really doing anything.

e: Just tangentially seeing a bit of what's in the Batgirl and Nightwing issues, he's more involved in the tie-ins than 'Batman' itself.
