Today was all Al Ewing for me - Empyre, GotG, and We Only Find Them When They're Dead.

Empyre wrapped really nicely I thought, all the major characters got their time to shine and I liked how it ended. I was a bit surprised
Jen just kinda came back. I know that will be explored more in Immortal She-Hulk, but I was just expecting it to be handled differently I guess
?

This was a nice down issue for Guardians, it was nice to have a Rich focused issue. I always enjoy a good homage to X-Factor #87. Keeping the Guardians out of Empyre was a good decision I think.

We Only Find Them When They're Dead looked incredible, and I really can't wait to dive into that world more.
I think the aftermath issue will cover quite a bit too with the last page of GOTG

And yeah, GOTG #6 is great as usual. The series feels like it's getting stronger with each issue, hope it keeps up.

Just came across this. I saw you guys talking about Tim not being Drake anymore, but I figured he just got a better name. This is dumb imo. At least Damian is moving on and becoming something new. Tim regressing back to just Robin is dumb. I get wanting to have the classic Batfamily back together though.

It's very dumb.

I think the last time Tim drake actually did something was like ten years ago when he discovered Bruce wasn't dead but merely lost in time.

Can anyone tell me the plot of new mutants #12? I'm on the fence regarding the issue since the next one is already jumping right into X of Swords, and I want to save some money if it's just a one shot or something lol

my favorite tom king comic released today is guardians of the galaxy #6

I like Damian being the new Ras in Batman Beyond. Not reading it, but I saw some pages from one of the arcs with him as the leader of the League of Assassins and thought that made a lot of sense.

I like Marcio Takara well enough, but I gotta say, the art felt like a step down after Juann Cabal on the previous issues.

It resolves the DOX website plot in an awkward way and we learn the tragic life story of Glob. It also sets up the post-Swords arc which will involve the monsters from when they went to Nova Roma. It was meh.

I'm really leaning towards dropping it, but I'll allow myself at least one mediocre book where I like the characters used.

I guess I'll skip it for now, and maybe get it after XoS if it's very important to the next arc.

I think in both cases, the colours drag the art down. But yeah, I do like Cabal's art better

if you were wondering what kind of trainwreck idiot would own a copy of the J. Scott Campbell variant for Black Widow #1, it's me, I grabbed it without looking thinking it was the regular Adam Hughes cover because I was in a hurry based on I had to shop for groceries, and now I look upon it laying on my desk in shame; I am booboo the fool

either way, elena casagrante is your next superstar artist, and thompson is going for odd callbacks and even stranger pulls; it's dope

For omnibus collectors, it looks like the Conan 4 omnibus and Absolute Carnage have been bumped to Sep 23.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is beginning to cook with real gas even if I am not too sure about this Gamora. Al Ewing never did too much for me before he began his historic Hulk run but he seems to have found a 2nd calling with his take on the Guardians. His Empyre event was solid btw if you only stick to the main book and FF.
I won´t miss those tie-ins that were done in by the virus. What we have is already too much with too little.
The new Black Widows comic lastly starts solidly. She had a weirdly strong collection of minis and short ongoings since, looks it up, 1999. There. An all Marvel round for once.

This 2014 J. Scott Campbell cover is worse and now set a precedent?

Edit: Now that's a Campbell cover if I ever saw one, lol.

I've just read an issue of Uncanny X-Men where they're saved by leprechauns while visiting Banshee's ancestral castle. That was something. I assume the leprechauns have never been brought up again.
The best arc of UXM to ever have been writ

He was Robin at the beginning of Young Justice. I mean this has been coming for awhile. In Detective Comics they put him in his classic look with a double R emblem for Red Robin, And the at the beginning of Young Justice he's just Robin, and once again he's just Robin.

Didnt know Season 2 was even filming lol

The return of Ahsoka Tano baybee!

He created the Gotham Knights protocol for Bruce in Tynion's Detective Comics, but then that was taken out because it went too far. Could've had lasting effects, but since no one did anything with it.

Empyre #6
"Look at my cave of scraps... This is where Tony Stark was born." is Al Ewing doing his best Geoff Johns impression.

I don't mean sexual i mean it's a good cover for black cat though i would replace milk with jewels, milk is weird
In the black widow cover are the guns supposed to be dicks because her face looks like that's what she sees

GotG 6 was definitely the best comic I read today. Empyre also ended well.

And honestly, I didn't hate New Mutants either. One of Brisson's better issues, and gave a pretty good narrative through-line for how Glob has changed over the years.

He married Babs in Arkham Knight in 2015. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League might even address this in 2022 due to her being Oracle and thus having ties to both the Squad and the League. Can´t wait. One of the weirdest ships DC ever saw:

Tim being Robin again is better than the nebulous nothing that he has fallen into so often in the past few years.

Awesome news for everyone today. In the latest Guardians of the Galaxy, Ewing reconfirmed that Hercules is awesome and totally bi.

Some may or may not be familiar with the drama surrounding Herc's sexuality in the past. Specifically, Herc was made bi in X-Treme X-Men. Marvel's Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso then, in what many considered to be part of sweeping anti-diversity efforts, explicitly erased this idea, stating:

"Hercules and James Howlett's relationship in "X-Treme X-Men" took place in a unique alternate universe, similar to how Colossus was gay in the Ultimate Universe, but is straight in the 616. Same goes for Hercules here."

Which is garbage, of course.

Here's Herc and Noh-Varr in today's Guardians of the Galaxy #6, written by Al Ewing, art by Marcio Takara. Eat shit, Alonso.

Huh I didn't know they tried to retcon Hercules' sexuality.
I didn't know that about Alonso either.
What a shite.

Yeah it was bad times. Marvel made an explicit push for more diversity in their comics (and sorta their creators?) and it was genuinely a big moment. And then they reversed and blamed all their problems on the diversification. Played a big part in helping create the ComicsGate we have to deal with today.

My opinion on Land:
WOSAwEm.jpg
1453546902771.jpg

He started on good footing in the 90s @ DC even if future problems were already beginning to materialize. He is also apparently easy to work with and gets shit done on time. His ill reputation was earned in blood though.

It wouldnt even be as bad to me if he was just tracing stock photos and porn stars.
He'd still be a shit artist though.
What's beyond the pail for me is him tracing over other peoples art and passing it off as his own. That's theft, pure and simple.
