I saw geoff johns Justice league on a best comics of the decade list and closed the tab so fast

Second half of Justice League was solid. Best of the decade is strong, but I enjoyed it. Darkseid War had some goofy shit, but it was goofy in a fun way. It was finally doing things with N52 that hadn't been done a billion times.

I just read the first 4 chapters of Chainsaw Man.

It's so good. And funny. I already love all the characters so I'm preparing myself for a heartbreak based on what people in here were saying.

What could possibly go wrong when you love all the characters.

Have you met Power yet? If not you haven't reached peak adorableness yet.

Damn it, I know I said yesterday my plan was to wait for Avengers but after seeing everyone's reactions I'm seriously considering trading in Mario Odyssey and preordering at Gamestop tomorrow. I hate my lack of self control and seeing Kate didn't help.
Haha. I saw that and heard positive things about the campaign, like Kamala being far more the main character than it seemed. I'm still not getting it anywhere near launch.

I read the death metal guidebook, and if someone told me this was all thought up by snyder's kids I would believe them. the "data" pages seriously read like something I came up with when I was 10 years old, it's incredible. how did the magic users of the dcu fail you ask? well there's a magic batman who literally became the most powerful magic user ever in his home dimension, so he just summoned literally the entirety of hell and defeated the good guys. superman was defeated by darkseid batman. aquaman gave up because a batman accidentally unleashed an ancient evil sea monster that then apparently also decided to be batman.

it's wild to think I actually really enjoyed the evil batman stories from the original metal, but this is astonishing.
The magic thing really does sound like something kid me (or a kid) would make up.
Whoever created this Spartacus show clearly watched 300 and thought it needed to be a prono, with a ton of horrible special effects with blood
They probably did think that. I haven't watched it myself, but I had heard it was really porny.

She showed up at the end of chapter 4 and I already can't wait to read more about her. She's already very adorable after 2 pages.

I decided I can wait for at least 1 price drop because I'm ridiculously poor. The Kotaku article and saying it had a huge focus on Kamala was the main reason I felt a burning desire to buy it immediately lol

DCeased Dead Planet

So, this is turning into George Romero's Land of the Dead for the DC Universe. Also, Damian hugging Jim Gordon was a great moment.

I can't argue with a lot of that. Though on a list that long, I'd definitely include:
  • Thor: The Mighty Avenger by Roger Langridge and Chris Samnee
  • Spider-Man: Life Story by Chip Zdarsky and Mark Bagley
  • Black Hammer by Jeff Lemire
  • Jim Henson's Tale of Sand by Jim Henson, Jerry Juhl and Ramon Perez

I almost put Spectacular Spider-Man #310 from Zdarksky on there. And I forgot Mighty Avenger was 2010, thought that was 2009. I knew back then Chris Samnee was gonna be the GOAT but like 12 people bought that book.

I appreciate Jeff Lemire's very constructed narrative sensibilities very tight workmanlike stuff. My brain keeps wanting to say "depression era sensibilities" and I don't know why because it makes no sense.

Omega Men by King and Bagenda
Fantastic Four by Hickman
Daredevil by Waid and Samnee
Wonder Woman by Rucka, Sharp, and Scott
Detective Comics by Tynion, Barrows, and Martinez

Al Ewing's Avengers was incredible to me. Tynion's Detective Comics is also up there way high.
I liked Ewing/Ward's Ultimates a lot, and Rocket, and that Avengers Ultron Forever special. Like you could just tell this guy definitely Had It, and one of his books was gonna break out eventually. Didnt think it would be the Hulk, but life is full of surprises!

I like how Chip left Spectacular cause he wanted to do other things and then has Spider-Man show up in Daredevil like every 6 issues.

If Cates is next up instead of him I'm cancelling Marvel. Dude could easily be in the top 1-3 Spider-Man writers ever if he gets the chance.

Ewing's incredible purely off me being a fan of Hulk. I don't like the genre, and I don't like the character, but that's a good book.

Other good superhero comics:

1.) Hickman's Avengers
2.) Loki: Agent of Asgard
3.) IDW Transformers

Cates' rise in Marvel happen damn near over night. One minute he was picking up on Jason Aaron's Doctor Strange, the next he gets Venom, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor. Like damn bro it took Kelly Thompson half a decade to get to Deadpool and Capt Marvel.

Ewing's run for refocusing on Banner, his choices, and how he engages with the modern world and probably the smartest way anyone could have. He gets that lasting appeal of the Hulk isn't how good he can punch things it's an expression of raw emotion and trauma made flesh. As something of an on-again off-again Hulk fan it just made me so happy.
And his decision to have a ride along character whose emotional connection to Banner is just wanting to understand why he gets to have what he has and be allowed to exist as he does, and to some extent speak to the inherent unfairness of this white man who can do incalculable damage to the world being seen for the most part as an American hero is so good.

The reframing of Banner's sort of affected nebbishness and how it shapes his relationships? Beautiful.

Cates said that Alonso gave him his exclusive to lock him down for Thor years down the road when Aaron finished.

Cates had already done stuff like God Country and IIRC previously worked for Marvel.

Was Hickman's Avengers run the first time there was an "Earth 3" type of evil alternate versions of the mainline heroes? If so I'm shocked no one from Marvel cribbed that from DC sooner.

What should happen is they should write some actual villains and stop making characters I like unlikable.
A while back I was thinking about how something like Forever Evil would happen with Marvel. It was a real struggle for me to even come up with a list of villains who could take part in such an event. They don't really have the same caliber of villains as DC imo, and that's mainly because they've neglected their villains to do nonstop hero vs hero bullshit since Civil War.

It's because the only villain treated like a true global threat is Doom and he's a hero a third of the time.

Even Thanos jobs out in two pages in Marvel crossovers.

A great time to pick up the back issues and pre-order the final issue of Alienated by Comics ERA darling Si Spurrier and Chris Wildgoose!
Okay but for real Wildgoose is legit and I really like him
Neither Duke nor Harper has been anywhere near as visible as Tim or Damian. Which is good, 'cause both of them are boring.

Alright, checking out Something is Killing the Children, Wynd, and throwing in a pre-order for Drakkon New Dawn issue 2.

So like there was a bunch of Tim Drake talk earlier aboit DC not knowing what to do with him

Look, it's real simple

No one wants to write him. It's not editorial. I mean it is, but it isn't. Editorial is trying to put him somewhere, but no one wants to write him. Tynion did, and gave him a perfect thesis and capped it off. Bendis clearly does, and continued it through not in the best way when carried out, but in a way that made sense initially (I have not read YJ this week but I know what happens ish).

But who else has shown any actual Desire for the character? Not Tomasi or Snyder, the other two big Bat writers. Percy seemed to have a lot of enthusiasm but was denied and left because of it. I mean, no one gives a fuck about Tim, and as such there is no one to give Tim an arc. In reality there aren't a lot of fans of the Bat family writing at DC right now. Specifically Robin, but that's a whole separate line of thought.
Someone needs to do something with Count Nefaria. That's a fascinating character.
When was the last time he showed up in something? Legit was it Bendis' Moon Knight? Because that was fucking 2008. I wanna say maybe Williamson's Illuminati, but it was a short stint (boy that book was fun) in an already short book.

Aaron just needs someone to job to T'Challa since Mephisto can't do it every single issue.

It's one thing to think you couldn't do a Forever Evil type story with Marvel villains but I don't think that makes the villain roster necessarily weaker.
