This is why I read Shonen Jump magazine Shonen Jumps.
I tried Jujutsu Kaisen this morning. First I read the chapters in Vol. 0 thinking it was the first chapter, then I realized what happened and started enjoying it more.

But I thought it was going to be like a regular battle manga, but with parasites or something. Its not at all what I was expecting.

Wait... Vol 0 doesn't happen until like Vol 8-9

apparently the weapon they gave people with the pre-order dlc stuff was supposed to be super OP too since you cant get it till like biome 3 or 4 without.

Yea Jujutsu Kaisen is just not for me. Once they introduced the curses and the ghosts I was done. Feels like ive already read that story.

Gunna try Spy x Family next.

Plus ive still got 50 chapters of Seraph of the End. Always surprised to see that book is still going.

Legion and Blindfold are so cute together.
But I know it will more than likely end in tears. 😭

Did you not know what JJK was about before starting?

Spy x Family is a delight.

I'd recommend taking some more time with JJK, though. It doesn't really play out exactly how you'd expect from the elevator pitch.

They're actually fucking rad when written by Ian Flynn. Well there's this like 20 issue dive in quality but once the reboot hits (oh yeah, there was a continuity reboot in Archie Sonic) it just becomes a knockout comic every issue. I'm actually quite nettled the reboot got cancelled.

Was that after they finally give Ken Penders the boot.

If I were the head of Shonen Jump I'd ban mangas about an organization killing evil monsters but then I'd instantly fired 'cus I would've passed on Demon Slayer and JJK. It's a tired premise but it keeps delivering bangers.

No that was years later. Ian Flynn took over in early 2006 and wrote the comic until its cancellation, and in 2013 the Penders lawsuit happened so the entire existing continuity and all but a few of the previous original characters were jettisoned starting with issue 252. You know how IDW TMNT and Boom! Power Rangers use a bunch of disparate elements from different continuities and tie them all into one narrative? The reboot Archie continuity was like that and most everything was available, so you'd get the unused villain from Sonic SatAM Season 3 (who was a major fixture in the comics but got spared the reboot as he wasn't an OC) showing up as the brother of the villain of the Game Gear spinoff Tails Sky Patrol and a one-off character from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was established as a media mogul and crime boss in Casino Park running a fighting tournament for self promotion, which featured previously unused Sonic the Fighters character Honey the Cat.

The story of Ian Flynn getting the job is hilarious because he was a fan of the comic who used to send fanmail, some of which got seen in the letter column, and after graduating with a writing degree he started sending unsolicited pitches over and over until Archie offered him some backup stories and at the same time Ken Penders quit so Ian Flynn was just handed the entire comic. The dive in quality I mentioned mostly came about at a point in time where it felt like the comic was become crushed by the weight of its own continuity and a constant rising tension of grim, bleak stories where the heroes lost all the time and everyone was angry and miserable, so I was particularly happy for that to get thrown out for globe trotting adventure where Sonic and friends have their own SHIELD helicarrier to fly them around the world doing good.

Future State the Next Batman's trade is coming out on 6/15, I don't have to wait 3 years for the trade to come out? And they're not making me buy a hardcover? wow

I have to catch up. I think I was around chapter 120 or so when I fell off. I don't dislike it, it's fine. But I just have a hard time seeing how this thing is setting the world on fire.
Part of it's just that the adaptation is very good. That's what tends to do it these days, more than anything else. But idk, I like the characters, I like the worldbuilding, the monsters and powers are cool, and it's got some fantastic fight choreography.

A lot of these series like Demon Slayer and JJK have a lot of work done by the anime studios to improve the art and how the fights look. The manga are nowhere near as impressive.

I'm not taking part in this conversation. I mean, Bii really missed the golden age anyway. Between 2012 and 2016/17, there was some really great stuff coming out. There's significantly less good stuff now unless you really, really like Fate/GO.

I say this as a friend... Think again.

We're friends?! 😊

Which ones some are really amazing. Like this

I'm still considering that Prime 1 MHA of Midoriya, Bakugo and THE BEST TODOROKI. But also might consider HEX Collectibles' Madara and the eventual First Hokage:

Consider instead Shin Megami Tensei statues.

Any good ones from Nocturne?

This is a slippery slope my friend.
One day you'll turn around and be crushed by a freak accident involving a scale model of the RX-78-2 Gundam.

Thankfully my bedroom doesn't have any statues. lol

just found out that Kieron Gillen, who I know from the recent (fantastic) Eternals book, wrote Uncanny X-Men from which this famous page comes from:

which explains a lot as this is one of my favorite pages ever. Maybe there is something to Mr.Gillen.

Gillen breathed new campy life into Mister Sinister.
