Welp I'm finally in the mood to read comics. Time to blaze through three oversized collections of TMNT I've been putting off.

I've had Astro City on my wishlist for a while and I'd like to get it sometime. What is it? Is it an ongoing? A bunch of vignettes and one-offs?

It's Kurt Busiek so I know it'll be good but I want to know what I'm getting into.

A single self contained universe. Mostly one-offs and small 2-3 issue arcs. (A 4 issue arc is very rare). But all the characters are sharing the same space and we visit them at various times in the run.

As of now, it is 'complete' with them planning some OGNs at some unspecified time in the future.

Are you planning to read digital or physical?

Went to big bang today and bought some Shonen Jumps to help them out.

Also, here's the trade reading order (which is honestly less convoluted than the single issue numbering).

It's Kurt Busiek creating his own universe. So it's all of what you said. Mini-series, ongoings, one shots. He just pieces together the story of this one fantastical pastiche city which includes versions of Superman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, and more.

You can start pretty much anywhere, but it's best to begin with Life in the Big City.

Worth saying, this book has existed for 20 years and Busiek also includes the answer of what happens with the passage of time for superheroes. It's very cool.

Marvel/DC not doing returns feels like they want to burn shit to be free from Diamond. Then again, that would also kill LCS shops

If they do that a large number of shops will close permanently
I feel like the only reasonable option is to cancel all standing orders; don't make the stores spend a dime on books they won't be able to sell for the whole duration. Bare minimum. Reduce the lines to a few digital-first titles if this lasts, in order to keep the talent working.

I didn't talk to the Seagull yet. I just noticed him on my title screen after I stopped playing last night.
I'm sorry, you think you can stop playing an Animal Crossing?
Whelp if comics shops close, I suppose it's time for us to embrace motion comics.
Astonishing X-Men is dirt cheap somewhere

Jen is on Otto Schmidt's tier of "get a book or stop" with the character fan art. With Otto it's the Birds of Prey
I miss when Marvel would clearly mark the start of an arc, like so:

No lie that actually worked for getting me to jump on two books; Squadron Supreme and Uncanny Avengers

Etc side making light of comic book shops shutting down and people losing their jobs

Remind me again why people make comic threads there?

With Jen I doubt its fan art. I bet this is her cover for Marvel Snapshot Storm or something like that. A variant for Giant Size X-Men Storm.

So I read Drifting Dragons while driving the folks around and this is really good! I'm a big fan of practical fantasy, series that take a more nuanced approach to fantasy universes and ask how things work for the common man, and this delivers in aplomb with a whaling ship designed for hunting dragons in the sky. The characterization is kinda thin in vol. 1 but the real reason to read it is all the lovingly detailed food the artist draws.

7, 8, and 9 of IDW. So good but I've just not been in the mood for comics in months.

It's not necessarily "fan art" when freelance artists do that. They pay attention to what hits big on social media, and having art posts doing good numbers regularly helps build their audience. Makes them more attractive to more clients outside the normal Marvel and DC (clients that pay a lot more than a Marvel or DC), and these artists also have things like prints, stickers, pins, etc., that they sell directly to fans, so they just want as many followers as they can get.

The DOOM Era logo is neat. And the comic shops hit is terrible.

Put off reading TMNT for so long I forgot how stupid good this series is.

It's the perfect expression of TMNT, a gaggle of characters who can be dropped into any scenario and immediately make it work.

I should catch up on MHA S4. I can't watch series like that weekly. I have to watch in bulk. Not enough feels like it happens per episode to feel satisfying.

Plus you could remove at least 9 people out of Class 1-A and it would be a better series. Momo is the most main character that gets no main character love. Like she gets played up that she's on the same level as Shoto, Bakugo, and Deku, but she gets as much attention as fucking sugar dick over in the corner.

TMNT is making me feel conflicted emotions and that's not a thing a comic about ninja turtles who eat pizza and their rat dad should be doing.

It's depressing, sullen, and it's driving these characters into the ground and shattering their morals with sadistic glee. Things just get worse for the brothers as time goes on despite their best efforts because the guy who should know everything is slippery sloping his way into being the worst person he could possibly be.

Now onto the Bebop and Rocksteady time travel extravaganza. I told you this comic was hella rad.
