New York, NY
I'm a bit stoned and annoying comics discord.
Meanwhile, NY still has yet to legalize marijuana. Soon my precious, very soon. When I was in Seattle last year, I used a lighter for the first time to light a J. I learned I was a lefty so I got on my flight with a head high. TSA never noticed. I still have the bag as a souvenir.

Comics: Monstress #30 (or is it 31), Once and Future #1?, Seven Secrets #5, Ice Cream Man, other obscure crap.

Hi y'all and Happy New Year! I think I only posted here a couple of times, but I'm going to try and post more this year. It's a little intimidating just jumping in since you seem to have been a community for a long time. You may never see me again.

As for 2020, I think my favorite thing I read last year is a tie between Shadow of the Batgirl and The Oracle Code. Right now I've been trying to get through a ton of stuff I've had checked out from the library for months. Some quick thoughts on what I've read over the past couple of weeks:

Koko Be Good by Jen Wang

I love Jen Wang's art so much. There's so much expression in everything she draws. I didn't really care about most of the characters in this one though. The one I liked the most she spent the least time with.

Vision by Julia Gfrörer

This book. There's bloodletting. There's mutual masturbation with a talking mirror. There's Victorian era cataract surgery. It's all incredibly haunting.

The Wanderer by Peter Van den Ende

A beautiful wordless journey across a surreal ocean.

Harley Quinn, Vol 2 by Sam Humphries

Fun story. I think I officially like Harley Quinn.

Avant-Guards, Vol 1-3 and Heavy Vinyl, Vol 1 and 2

I think I've enjoyed just about everything I've read that's published under Boom! Box. They've all been fun quick reads and these two are no different. I hope Carly Usdin writes more in the future

Basketful of Heads by Joe Hill

Locke & Key is a top five book for me so I was very excited for more Joe Hill horror comics. This did not disappoint. Very fun.

City, Vol 9 by Keiichi Arawi

I really enjoy this. Maybe even more than Nichijou?

The Way of the House Husband, Vol 4 by Kousuke Oono

It's starting to feel like the same joke all the time, which I guess is the whole point of the series. It's just starting to stretch itself a little thin.

Witch Hat Atelier, Vol 1 by Kamome Shirahama

I'm looking forward to reading more of this. The world seems interesting and the art is gorgeous.

I can't stop reading Rucka's Wonder Woman. Just finished the arc where they go to Tartarus and my god is that simultaneously heartbreaking and uplifting

And shady as fuck. "Oh congrats Diana. You get your eyes back, but it's Athena's eyes."

Uh huh

Fuckin gods

I'm guessing it's a Deadpool & Gwenpool Double Trouble book that will release after the Thor & Loki book.
Either that or a Jeff book

That face is underrated.

I can't support a comic that took away that smile.

edit: Or a company for that matter. Our DC bias is there for a reason.

edit: edit: I guess the number of Eternal variants was known, but I just took a peek at next week's comic list and lol

I wonder what you do when you run out of Zs.

Do people actually buy all of these?
How does making so many actually make money?

Anyone else gonna try zooming through Soule's Star Wars High Republic novel on the 5th to get ready for the comic on the 6th? It's gonna take me at least a week. I haven't been as much of a vivacious reader since Youtube was invented.

e: Oh damn. It's 400 pages? That's a no. I will read it first, though. I've liked his novels so far.
Plus I'mma get every FS comic except Flash that day. No time for word books.

Damn you did some reading and then some.
Since you enjoyed HoX/PoX so much, I can easily recommend some of the series that spun out of it.
'X-men', Marauders and Hellions are easily the best imo, although X-force and X-factor are still strong.
Excalibur would be the weakest if not for Fallen Angels which was terrible, but also quickly cancelled.

The first issue is a follow-up to X-men #5, and then they all happen just somewhere between then and X of Swords. They seed some future plots and stuff, but mostly the story is just there to let whichever artist is drawing the issue flex their muscles and stuff. They're fun

Sounds like comic shops got next week's DC books already, along with the final Death Metal and the first few Future State issues. Haven't seen any spoilers yet. But, I did see someone quoted saying that Death Metal ending somehow makes up for how dark everything has been since the first Metal event. Like with Perpetua, LMAO Batman, and all that stuff. Then Future State shows another super dark alternate future. Before March where a new Era basically begins. Sounds like Snyder was probably expecting DC to go straight into this new less dark DCU after Death Metal, but they needed time to get everything ready and threw in Future State.

Comic Shops May Have Sold Death Metal #7 & DC Future State By Mistake

I think all of them were pretty nonessential unless you're a fan of the artist. Obviously I really liked the Jean and Emma one because it's Dautermann and a semi sequel to Morrison's stuff. I can't remember any being must reads in a certain order but I didn't get the Storm one.

Phillip Kennedy Johnson said on Word Balloon that before 5G got scrapped he was brought in to work on a book for a cosmic line DC was going to put out instead of Superman. I wonder what books they would've done.

Hi y'all and Happy New Year! I think I only posted here a couple of times, but I'm going to try and post more this year. It's a little intimidating just jumping in since you seem to have been a community for a long time. You may never see me again.

I haven't heard about a few of those titles. Obscure stuff is always good in my book. Welcome! :)

I remember I saw most of Wonder Woman 1984 last night with some friends on Discord. I don't care about most superhero films so I didn't see the OG WW film. But I read the spoilers.

That said, WW: 1984 was bad and I wasn't drinking then. I laughed out during the White House fight Pedro Pascal was fun though. The dude really hammed it up. I'm glad they made Max Lord's origin Latino. It was probably because Pascal pushed for diversity. And Chris Pine made the best of it even if I rolled my eyes several times.

Gadot was as stiff as a toilet seat and Kristen Wiig was miscast. Just a bad film overall and super overt pro-American military propaganda (Isn't that every cape film though?). Would watch again for Pedro Pascal and because I missed the famous talking stone MacGuffin . I heard Pedro Pascal looked at Nic Cage's hammy performances and went to town.

I think all of them were pretty nonessential unless you're a fan of the artist. Obviously I really liked the Jean and Emma one because it's Dautermann and a semi sequel to Morrison's stuff. I can't remember any being must reads in a certain order but I didn't get the Storm one.
That's unfortunate cause the Storm one closes the plot thread from the Jean and Emma one
