I think I find Wonder Woman most interesting when she's less a character and more a marble homunculus of political thoughts (be that gender politics, sexual politics, governmental politics, all of the above). Marston was all about the cross section of political development and sexual gratification.

By which I'm saying, perhaps for the first time, Morrison has the right idea.

Honestly I have no issues with someone wanting to live out their sexual fantasies with a comic book character.

Though I'm not sure if there's an actual solution to the objectification issue anyway, since as we aim to cut down on it in our mass media we also have the proliferation of porn that reduces just about every fictional character down to sex.

Just watched that Super Eyepatch Wolf video about the current state of Shonen Jump in 2020. Make me really want to check out some of those books now.

Anyone reading this Jujutsu Kaisen? I had seen it before, but I wrote it off thinking it was just a knockoff of some of their other books, but damn that art looks good.

Also interested in Promised Neverland. But isnt that the book where all the kids were living on a farm or something and the farm owner was eating them? Something like that I think.

Wish they would put some of these damn books on CMX. Like Spy X Family. I dont mind the SJ app, but it would be so much easier if they were on CMX.

Just read TPN. You also get Seinen stuff on the SJ app. Golden Kamuy is on there.

If they were on CMX, you'd have to pay for them. You get a lot of stuff for that $2/mo. SJ sub. Also, CMX doesn't have guided view with manga, either. So it's really six on one, half-dozen on the other.

I know, its just easier having everything all in one place.

All his videos are great, if you havent been watching already. He did a really good one about the rise of books like Fist of the North Star, which had some Japanese history in it that I had no idea about. Like this serial killer was putting poison in candy, and then the detective who couldnt solve the case killed himself by setting himself on fire.

Promised Neverland is legit incredible. But watch the first season on crunchyroll and then read the manga. Try to avoid spoilers at all costs. The anime is legit chilling and haunting at times. Also sad and happy.

The visuals and animation is just fantastic

Square Enix is making a Thor figure as part of their Bring Arts series of action figures. I assume this is based on their Avengers game. The concept art is pretty wild:

I'm waiting for The Promise Wonderland to be over before I get into it.

Also, I'm sorta hoping they do a nice collection for it but I'm sure they won't.

Real talk, this is good up to OMD right?

It's not as good but it has it's moments. Aside from a few OOC moments from Aunt May and MJ in The Other and the prelude to Peter's identity reveal the characterization is just as strong as it is during JRJR.

- First arc is alright
- His arc with the New Avengers is excellent and as good as his stuff with JRJR
- The Other is really weird, but I don't really consider it bad. It has some good parts.
- Civil War/Back in Black is frustrating because Peter revealing his identity is so dumb AND it's hard to read knowing what it leads to. But it's not bad either.
- The first 3 issues of OMD would create a pretty compelling story IF Peter had not accepted the deal. But alas... (also 99% sure the last issue was ghostwritten by Quesada).

Pro-Tip: Rather than read OMD read the Sensational Spider-Man annual written by Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca. I don't think it's collected in anything so you'll have to either read it on MU or as a CMX single. It's also the best issue of Spider-Man ever.

You are in luck too, research tells me vol 1 is the perfect jumping on point!

Thanks when I finally get to cracking open vol 1, I'll keep that single issue in mind.

CBR.com has an article "Does the Holiday Star Wars special need to be pardoned?"

Mark Hamill made a joke. CBR stop. You dumb dumbs.

To be fair I'm not clicking on it, so it make be a joke article, but I bet it isn't. I bet the article actually talks out why it doesn't need to be pardoned.

I am also considering doing the same. I hear that TPN is ending, along with Demon Slayer towards the end of the year. And they seem to be doing more and more of those larger collected editions for Manga. Seems like some publishers are doing them more than others though, which is a bummer.

I almost wish MHA would end soon so they could hurry up and get to the large collected editions. But they still havent gotten to do them for Naruto yet, so I dunno if they would do them any time soon.

I keep meaning to read more manga but get distracted by comics. I just finished Hellboy Omnibus 3, which was quite a ride at the end. I'm taking a break before Hellboy in Hell to read Starman.

I still need to check out the anime sometime, I've read up to like Vol 12 or so of the manga. Those first 4 volumes were so damn good though

Demon Slayer is currently in the final battle. Promised Neverland ends this year and MHA is clearly going to blow right past the previous ending spot of vol 30. Thankfully.

If you liked it in the manga you should adore the anime. Everything is pitch perfectly done. Even the music makes my hair stand up.

Yea, I think in that video they say that JMS didnt even want his name on it lol. Shame to have such a strong run get trainwrecked by Civil War and then OMD.

I agree with this tip. I bought it through CMX and was blown away. Sure, Larocca's art sucks (but not as bad as his later stuff) but it makes me wish for an entire Fraction run 😢

That Beat article is really good.

I did not know about what happened at last year's DC ComicsPRO meeting. Would have loved to be in the room at the moment Didio realises someone's reporting on it DURING THE CONFERENCE. Like someone getting caught texting in class.

I don't know what's going to happen over the next few months, but it won't be dull. Whether the books are dull or not is a different matter, lol.

It says that his firing was so sudden because if he revealed the plans for 5G at ComicsPro it would have been much harder to walk back. Sounds like ATT/WB has never been sold on the idea of replacing all of the heroes, all at once, especially with Wonder Woman 84 and The Batman about to release.

That Beat article was the best write up of all this that I've seen so far. Hopefully this doesn't end up being a monkeys paw situation where what comes next is worse

oh it will be, I do not trust for a single fucking moment that execs at WB will make the kind of bold move DC actually needs

I dunno. That Beat article sound like an OT thread in points, like someone with a grudge laying out the events who wasn't even reading the comics.
How many female characters have really been "Fridged and sidelined" in the recent past? I wouldn't characterize this Year of the Villain era with that.

I'm no more well informed than I have been reading bits of BC on it.

my prediction is that 5G will end up reduced to 6-12 issues per character so that Bruce is back under the cowl in time for release of The Batman.

yeah also I'm not even gonna go into how fucked it is to call Wally in HiC a "psychopathic killer" (it's pretty fucked!), but the hypothesis for why things happened when they happened is sound, and comes from someone with a solid track record when it comes to reporting on the industry

That Beat article isn't really surprising me with new information, but having it all in one place is great.

If there's two things I'd like from DC going forward, it's this:

1.) Just create Ultimate DC. All of this could've been avoided if you'd done that. You keep trying to "rejuvenate" these characters when in reality all that's needed is good stories, but if you want a continuity free version, that can be done in a separate universe.

2.) Bring back all the characters you got rid of, and restore continuity to normal. There wasn't anything wrong with all the side kicks and family, that's why you read DC to begin with. This doesn't mean follow a storyline from 2007, it just means these characters all know one another and this isn't the first time everyone's met.

I dunno. That Beat article sound like an OT thread in points, like someone with a grudge laying out the events who wasn't even reading the comics.

Well, Bleeding Cool frequently calls things well in advance, so that's still pretty informed. At some point ya'll gotta stop caping for Dan. He did some good stuff, but he was responsible for some bad stuff too, and this idea that Heidi MacDonald of all people would be wrong about it when: A.) It's Heidi MacDonald, and B.) Dan Didio is indeed gone, is weird. Like, he had enough successes interspersed with the problems to keep him around until WB finally had enough.
