I just don't get what he gets out of going back to WWE. He could have easily stayed with AEW on a part time basis while he continues to do reality shows for Warner and exploring other stuff.

If you're going to get told 'no' by somebody, better to be told no by Vince McMahon, as opposed to some rich kid younger than you.

WWE has their own performance center and actively does not want trained wrestlers..

This just isn't true. They're in the process of signing multiple indy wrestlers right now. They're just not signing any guy w/ a pulse that gets a few chants at a PWG show anymore.

Absolutely. Everything about Cody in real life has to be overly dramatic.
You mean the guy with bleached blonde hair, the colors of the flag tattooed to his neck, who comes out of the center to Kevin Nash pyro, decked out in ring and entrance gear like he wanted to wear a Vegas casino is dramatic?! That's impossible!

Another thing, to me, this really puts into perspective on how big AEW has gotten. It's not that Cody is going to WWE (possibly), but that he's leaving AEW.
Yea, it's crazy how the roster has changed in the past six months.

Definitely a smart move by Cody. He is going to be so over if he goes back to WWE. The AEW roster has too many big names now for Cody to get the attention he desires. I'd imagine he has a three - four year run in WWE, then comes back to AEW for his last run.

Still shocking to me, assuming it isn't a work, since he has so may shows on TNT/TBS.

Getting rid of Cody is a plus. Now get rid of the Young Buck and their Elite nonsense and stop focusing on Britt Baker and you have something worth watching weekly.

I can't wait for Cody to debut in WWE by killing a live jaguar with a sledgehammer during his entrance.

Cody has to be a complete idiot if he thinks WWE will book him correctly, especially after all of those shots he has taken at Triple H.

Even in a reality where WWE had a real interest in Cody they would want him to kill those TV deals as they're with networks WWE doesn't work with. As fun as the idea of Cody showing up on Raw is the likelihood of a WWE deal happening is low. Very low. Cody is big enough that WWE will talk to him, humor him and probably even make him an offer but it's hard to imagine WWE actually wanting him and making him a offer he would actually want.

Cody is going to be midcard so fast in WWE you'll blink and think his indy run was only smoke and mirrors

If this isn't a work, I'm indifferent on Cody leaving. He's had a couple of great matches in AEW, but a lot of the creative around him was fucking awful, and felt disconnected from the rest of AEW.

Brandi on the other hand would be major addition by subtraction. Everything shes involved in fucking sucks

They gave them a reality show and plaster Cody's face all over their advertising thanks to Go Big Show, what more could they have possibly expected? Turner dove headfirst into the Rhodes business.
That's the strangest thing about Cody quitting AEW. Utterly bizarre behavior.

The more I think about it and the stuff he's said about WWE, the less likely i think it is he will go back. Idk maybe he buys ROH, or does NJPW for a while idk

He could even just be doing what Gargano is doing and taking several months off for his new baby, he can afford to and now would he the time

Yoooooo we got Dan Lambert's ERA account up in here.

Go off on Wednesday on how you drove Rhodes out of AEW, king.

I think Cody thought he'd be the number 1 guy in AEW in addition not all of that, and its apparent from the moves AEW has made and the upgrades to the roster (especially at the top of the card) in addition to the fan reactions to Cody, that this was never going to happen.

Here's why I'm doubtful that it's a work: what's the end game? What storyline does this lead to or play into? The closest thing to a work I think this could be is Cody playing hard ball to get a better deal. WWE talent have very publicly done this since AEW came into existence with Cody having even commented on this in the past saying he's glad AEW could be used for talent to get better deals. Still I think this is legit but there's no chance of Cody ending up in WWE. There's a difference between talking with WWE and signing with them.

I wonder if Cody wants to transition out of the ring and into a creative / booker role.

The in ring product of WWE has never been worse and there's no chance of Cody making a real difference there as a performer. Not while the booking is so terrible. I can't see him going back be in ring long term.

If WWE were looking for a HHH replacement, maybe the son of Dusty Rhodes along with his AEW creative experience could make a convincing job application.

Did Cody want a bigger say in creative at AEW and Tony Khan turned him down? I could see that being a reason for him to leave.

Don't think someone setting themselves up and thinking they'd be the number 1 guy would make a stipulation that they can never be the number 1 guy in their very first feud

I mean, its not like that was a legitimate stipulation. It was a storytelling device (one intended to stack the odds against him, as you normally see with a face) they could easily go back on, if the situation presented itself. It just never did because the AEW audience was never clamoring for Cody to make a world title run.

Cody also has a guaranteed spot on AEW tv though to largely do whatever bullshit he wants. If he's seriously going to WWE, he's taking a major risk that he's not jobbing out in 2 months.

He's more likely to make his own/hijack another promotion and be the Jeff Jarrett of it, than he is ever going back to WWE long-term.

I hear he is leaving to host a podcast with Brandi and Jim Cornette. They are big fans of one another.

(I joke but I would listen to Cornette yelling about their stupid ideas nonstop.)

This is so weird, didn't he just have a baby? And he wants to be on the road 300 days a year now? Plus he has a decently popular show that is like filming right now? He's going to throw away his media resume for WWE?

Absolutely. I could even see him attempt to startup another company. Maybe these talks he's having with WWE push AEW towards making a better offer but I doubt it. So I think that takes AEW and WWE off the table.

Vince doesn't care what you do outside WWE, Cody will be in mid card hell like pretty much everyone else.

Wrestling is scripted so he could easily negotiate a title run if he's talking to them. If he's paid enough I'm sure he's willing to tolerate a lot of the stuff that bothered him previously.

Also, this could just be a negotiating tactic so him ending up back at AEW doesn't necessarily mean it's a work. Remember when all the nerds were up in a tizzy because Marvel and Sony publicly announced they were no longer working together? And then they started talking again and suddenly everything was ok. Or recently when Bobby Flay and Food Network announced they weren't able to come to terms, then everything worked out.

I can believe that Cody wants to leave AEW, but he's managed to build his own stock in a way that I can't believe going back to WWE just for money makes sense. Between reality shows and a general built-up presence I would easily see him spearheading another new promotion.

It is strange that he helped found AEW, gets (presumably) near complete freedom on promos and storylines, and gets to be part of a company that actually shows respect to his family and other historical cornerstones of the industry that he grew up with then to say no thanks, would rather go back to the place that only knows disrespect to their present and past.

To trade an opportunity of building a legacy with the only company to legitimately compete with WWE in 2 decades to hang out in WWE catering after watching dozen upon dozens of your friends be released by that same company this past year? It doesn't really add up but who knows. More money may mean more.

Like, alright, you kind of suck now but you know what the people want. I can't imagine he's so dead set on being cheered that he leaves for a whole ass other company lol

Is this more of Nick Kahn trolling Triple H. Nick is like "I got rid of all of your guys and now I'm bringing in the dude, with John Rico's tattoo on his neck, that smashed your thrown. Oh yeah....2 words...suck it".

That being said, he better be "dashing".

Meltzer indicated the issue was money:

Well, someone was going to win the "WWE overpays an AEW star to jump ship" sweepstakes. Guess it might as well be Cody.

Vince must be really opening the wallet if this is true. Granted his profile is MUCH higher now but still that company absolutely buried him for years. Massively dissapointing if true.
