I was happy when they hired ex Evolution Studio people thinking PC would get one of their games, but we got nothing. Hope this fair better for this team. I miss Motar Stawm.

I wish Codemasters would use some of their non racing ips like overlord or operation flashpoint, or at the very least sell it off to someone else... though I would prefer overlord more, cause arma pretty much does what operation flashpoint use to.

$30m is basically nothing, that's really interesting.

E: I see vague references to other studios maybe going for similar prices. I guess the pCARS ip isn't valued at much, and this is just an acqui-hire?

In all fairness, they were kind of butchering those franchises last gen. I think allowing other developers to work with them, while retaining the license, might be a good bet. Give Operation Flashpoints to the folks making Insurgency Sandstorm.

Ya in house they don't seem to have the talent to make non racing games. They're very much specialised, so I agree that someone outside of the company should work on them... though I doubt they would even want to do that and so those ips just have to rot away in a vault... like with many other publishers 😔

I hope they develop something like Project Cars but more console-user friendly. Something that can compete with Gran Turismo.

In honour of Rushy
Shame that I could never get into OnRush and none of the games in Codemaster's portfolio entices me. Of course, I do love watching their (well as sole license holder) F1 game be part of the official FIA F1 e-sports tournament.

I know it's different to the average racing game but I really enjoyed OnRush and still play it now occasionally. Whether or not it was a big success, I'm surprised that Codemasters didn't appreciate it for the innovative experiment it was. The team seemed develop the whole game pretty quickly, and it was technically proficient, so them turning around and then dumping them definitely stings. I know it can often be about nothing coming together quickly enough for the next project, rather than the current one, but still...

Much like how Sony treated them. They released quality title after title with a high quality bar, sure DriveClub had some serious online issues at the start, but I feel that really showed up Sony's lack of online testing infrastructure. So while it may have embarrassed them it should also have helped expose a weakness they really needed to get on top of if they want a presence in online gaming. Again, innovation can come at a cost, but it was short sighted to respond to it in the way they did.

It just feels like they're really missing something in their first party stable now. Evolution games were always glorious and it's hard for anyone to capture their spirit. They always seem to push the tech to its limits while crafting really high quality games.

Not sure how much of the old team is left at Codemasters now, but certainly hope they can recreate that magic.

That'll never happen with Forza and Gran Turismo around.

But is there enough Forza and GT if CM decides to release a console/MadBox with their racers exclusive to the system.

Everything about the console geared for racing games. Maybe coming with a steering wheel as well for ah ok forget all that BS.. just speaking out of my arse.

No console of course...They just want control of which type of racing series releases when.. and how to capitalize as much sales as possible for each, without eating into the other's release window.

The agreement cements Codemasters' position as a world-leading games developer and publisher of racing videogames and expands its portfolio to include the award-winning Project CARS, together with an unannounced Hollywood blockbuster title.

What could this be?

Fast and furious? I think that's the only racing hollywood movie out there?

Project cars wasn't perfect but it was solid from a technical standpoint, much more of a sim than the codemasters games I feel like, I wonder what this means, are they going to use some SMS tech going forward or what?

making a new project cars just using the codemasters tech would be a shame,

oh another thing, I think "Automobilista 2" is being made using the project cars engine, I wonder what this means for them...

I loved the track/weather variety on offer in the Project Cars games; the level of simulation on where puddles form, how tracks dry over time, all that was very cool to me. If Codemasters can make that sort of racing sandbox feel good playing on a gamepad, the way F1 and Dirt do, I'm extremely excited for it.
