So it looks like they're already starting to inject crap reality programming into Max. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they try to push this stuff really hard and make it the default tab on the Max UI to try and force people into it.

I think moving CNN to Discovery rather than HBO shows the direction of travel imo.

From Reuters, via MSN:

Warner Bros Discovery also is considering free, ad-supported services that would exist alongside its subscription service, though no announcement is planned. One source said among the ideas being discussed is a service built on Warner Bros' library of classic movies, which currently attract little notice inside HBO Max.

Apparently WBD is considering a smaller service for the Warner Bros back catalog/TCM

So the maniacal thread over here was premature?

Still several hours before the earnings call, and merging two streaming services together isn't the kind of thing that's going to happen overnight. They may still fully intend to do so, but it will take several months for that to pan out.

Oh, God. Here come all the HGTV home makeover shows.

My grandmother passed away right when those first started. She'd watched that channel nonstop for years beforehand. I still remember when their primetime slots were just beginning to encroach. "What is this shit?" She was livid.

Livid at like three hours a week of it.

I would attribute at least some of the blame for that thread to the sites that actively pushed the message in their headlines (and then the articles themselves were, perhaps, a fifth as alarmist). "Oops, how did that happen!"

The bigger issue is the constant hyperbole and racing to conclusions in general. Everything is either the best ever or a total disaster.

This is premature as well

Hot takes wait for no one, apparently.

Max already has a ton of crap reality programming.
There's a weird gap between Reddit/ResetEra/Twitters perceived HBO Max quality and actual HBO Max show quality.

That's to say, HBO Max has many absolutely fantastic shows. But it also has it's fair share of Mediocre scripted and unscripted programing that have been on the service since day 1.

I think they said they were going to do content sharing for the immediate term until they figured out the backend logistics. In the mean time they are just going to post stuff on both services I think.

No idea if it will just be duplicate, but would make sense since it keeps content flowing on both services while they cut other shit.

Jesus christ the only thing I want is to watch Chopped without paying for Discovery + and I still can't even do that

Dang, their TCM hub is wonderful, easily one of my favorite parts of the service. Not surprised it doesn't get significant views, though. It would be too bad if it was relegated to an ad-supported service but that's better than nothing.
It's all I watch on there besides The Rehearsal and How To with John Wilson

I think splitting reality stuff between the two makes even less sense than just moving everything into one or the other. With the drop in scripted programming that's bound to happen due to moving everything production into HBO proper you really just end up increasing the amount of reality programming on HBO Max. Maybe that's what they want, a "boiling frog" situation so when everyone is forced into a larger service with all of the existing Discovery reality trash it's not as hard a sell.

All I want is an 'i'm not interested' button so that I can shape the recomendations I get on whatever ends up happening to HBO Max/Discovery+. The last thing I need is a flood of completely irrelevant unscripted content while title after title of original scripted stuff keeps mysteriously disappearing for no good goddamn reasons.

Bring Mythbusters back
I legitimately expected it to be one of the main pushes for Discovery+.
especially after the failure of the reboot immediately followed by the kid Mythbusters show.

I kinda think Jamie just absolutely doesn't want to do it or work with Adam anymore and thats why it hasn't.

I think Grant sadly being dead now rules out something with the Bteam as well.

Does this mean Discovery+ will have TWO Bourdain shows while HBO Max none? That's not fair. Give back my Parts Unknown!

my mother will be happy AF with this, she loves the Gaines and had wanted to watched the Magnolia stuff since before that channel even launched.
