Can't imagine struggling sex workers loving this. A quick look at social media suggests as much.
Yeah, it's definitely a shame. I know a few people that started onlyfans because they genuinely, desperately needed a revenue stream during this pandemic and they're struggling to find subscribers, despite producing content literally
every day, and hustling to promote themselves, and then a celebrity that already has cache and making, at the least, 6 figures a year, can start up an onlyfans and make $1 million in a single day.
I can't say I don't respect the hustle, and I think it's awesome that many women are turning what used to be something men used to hold power and control over them because of their misogyny (like leaking nudes and sex videos as revenge, etc), and making money off of it, and reclaiming power, but it's unfortunate when legit sex workers who are just trying to make ends meet and share their sexuality in attempts to normalize and decriminalize sex work, get overshadowed by people that have already hit that success lottery "horning in" on their profession.
I haven't talked to the people I know about how they feel about Bella Thorne's foray into OnlyFans, but I'm sure it's a sensitive fucking subject considering how hard they worked getting their pages setup, shamelessly self promoting, only to scrape a measly 10-15 subs after months of work. And it's not like the content they produce is low quality, so it's more an exposure thing.
I don't understand the shaming of people that produce content for OnlyFans, and the people that subscribe, though. Like, why does it fucking matter so much to you? People can spend their money on whatever they want, and it's not always about "thirst," or being some lonely loser or simp. Personally, I'd rather subscribe to someone's OnlyFans, where I know 80% of that subscription or tips or whatever is going to the performer, than spend that money on a studio porn site, where it's more than questionable if the performers are even getting a fair cut, or not being exploited for the gain of the studios that are producing the content.
Sex. Having sex. Filming consensual sex. Selling sex, really needs to be normalized, and sex workers need to have legit legal protections for the work they do.
I used to review adult films professionally many moons ago, and got to meet some pretty amazing and kind performers, who loved what they did, but the stigma and treatment they received just for being women who enjoyed working in that industry was really disheartening to see.
