To the people who played the original and are playing this one right now: How is the new localization? Any differences worth mentioning?

I really do love Richard Honeywood's work on CC, and I hope this new translation is up to its standard.

The english localization is still Honeywood's work. They just made some small tweaks.

Stupid fanboy opinions like this is why we keep getting crappy remakes and remasters of games. Go ahead and waste your money if you want, but dont tell others to just "suck it up" instead of demanding better.

Chrono Trigger was trash on PC day 1 and now it's probably THE definitive way to play. SE unfortunately indeedsullies some of the goodwill/patience from fans in their early release iterations (an odd MO to 'release now; fix later') but it often gets better.

I hope these people also bitch about, like, REAL government censorship going on in the world. But seriously that's messed anyways and I'm glad people are calling it out (even as early as the first comment). Can't believe you need to make a point of asking people not to sexualize kids

🤦‍♀️

Playing on PC, and while RTSS reports a locked 60fps the game feels like it's in the 20s. So is 60 an emulated framerate?

A new Chrono game is actually 100 percent confirmed because the Chrono Cross twitter account's handle is actually just @chronogame, implying an intention to use it for future titles that are not Chrono Cross.

100

Percent

Confirmed

PLEASE

On topic, I'm still super early, but I feel like there could be some real strategy with this combat system., between the spell/ability levels and elemental field effects.

Man, watching the early access DigitalFoundry coverage and there are points where the frame rate in this new version, even on PC, runs worse than PS1. I don't understand. 😭

Edit: The damn title screen drops as low as 12 fps on PS5 the fuck.

Is the PC version the worst version or are they all just as bad as each other? I'm going by Steam reviews and it doesn't sound good.

I've met like 15 characters with a portrait, and the first non-core character to join my party is Pierre. I'm fine with the Shakespearian archetype, but this dude kinda sucks in battle? He died right near the end in the two boss fights he was in, so he missed the big level ups.

Hmm after thinking about it some more. I'm going for pc version. I feel like if Squenix can't be bothered to fix the performance with a patch, there's better chance for the community to fix/mod it on pc.

clearly that's due to razzly's cape rendering with real time physics

Of all the changes added....bravo devs. :P

I could honeestly believe it?? I dunno, I always thought this was a series that SE would return to one day. 🤷‍♀️ At the very least, 20 years later they're ushering some love for CC.

hahaahhaahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha

god I wish

Yeah.... I know. Pipe dream. :(

After watching speedruns: He's at least the shortest route though 👍

Yes this is sort of running in an hacked together emulator it uses the original game files (dat files with the cd content are included) and the new "hd" stuff and such is injected on top of it, so frame rate and everything else is like it was on the psx.

Sorry for the following question. I have never played Chrono Cross, and Baten Kaitos is one of my favorite games. Seeing videos of Chrono Cross, specially the scenery, makes me remember Baten Kaitos a lot. Why? Maybe same developer/director or was Baten Kaitos influenced by it? Made me really want to get this. Thank you.

Chrono Cross' writer/director is Baten Kaitos' writer. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. :D

Is there anywhere besides the menu to listen to the new arrangements of music tracks? I can't seem to find them on YouTube.

I'm both sad and happy that that series is isolated on GC, and Monolith only has time for Xenoblade. T_T

I know what you mean. We're being gifted some of the world's most wonderful pizza on a routine basis, but the equally superb tacos are locked away, possibly forever.

OK, maybe that's not quite what you mean, but it's late and I haven't eaten yet.

It's been years since I played it but I still contend that Origins has one of the best battle systems in a JRPG.

I need more JRPGs where combat is accompanied by an announcer just, losing his fucking mind

Y'all, I have been plaything through this at double speed, with auto battles on, and the buff that makes you unkillable. It has been delightful.

FYI for you steam deckers / linux gamers. The game now starts up and runs on proton experimental (bleeding edge beta.)

(To use the bleeding edge beta, you have to select Proton Experimental from your Steam Library, Right click -> properties -> beta -> bleeding edge.)

They're all terrible but you can at least make the PC version look nice by adding proper level correction (crts had darker gamma which this port ignored so you see a shit ton of washed out blacks and dithering) and filters to hide the abysmal treatment of bg / warping on characters.

Also the dischord 'moogles & mods' (where most of the great final fantasy pixel remaster & chrono trigger mods come from) seems to already have a bunch of helpful mods popping up. Will probably help smooth out a lot of the rough edges over time. I know a bunch of the stuff that has come from that community made my playthrough of the FF PR & CT pc releases a lot more enjoyable.

Good to know. Luckily I'm not planning on buying this any time soon.

I got 10,000 on roulette!

For me, I would count really fast once the clock started and press it just as I finished counting. It worked for me.. but maybe it was just luck.

Emulators differentiate between video images per second and in-game fps. The former is basically: am I running as fast as a TV would run? And the latter: am I displaying the frames per second that the console is sending to the TV?

Example: Ocarina of Time

In NTSC land, your tv runs at 60 images per second, but the game only runs at 20 fps.

I'm remembering why I never finished this game before. It just goes so slowly.

Definitely going to get through it this time, but man do I like the idea of this game more than the actual game.

Is it worth seeking out the OST out of curiosity or is it as similar as mitsuda said? How noticeable is the difference

Graphics director, and particularly prerendered backgrounds designer, was the same person for both games: Yasuyuki Honne.
A good chunk of the team that developed Chrono Cross and even Trigger left Square to form Monolith Soft.

Game is nostalgia pure. I'm having a lot of fun. The first village is full of foreshadowing too.

Apparantly the game is literally just running on an emulator that comes packed with it.
You can run the game files on a different emulator of your choice for better performance.

Finally got to download and play a little this morning. Got Orlha for the dream sequence. How did they know my end game party?
