Yes, I do.
Once you've cleared both Chrono Cross and Radical Dreamers at least once, sit through the (considerable!) length of credits from the main menu screen. At the end, and mind you it's all text-based so don't expect anything visually splashy, you'll get dialogue from Guile reflecting on battling the Time Devourer with Serge and Kid. I'm not gonna go into details because I think it's cool and y'all should experience it for yourselves, but the twist here is that Guile has been, well, inducted into canon as Magus after all.
Look guys, we got a shout-out!
Play-Asia also have utterly rip-off-merchant prices, so there are other good reasons to shop around for the Chrono Cross physical anyway.
For those playing the PC version, try switching to borderless mode, that got ride of the tearing for me. Also, try switching between classic and new graphics options, I found that classic is overall smoother for me, but that's in my case.
Edit. I will also wait to grab the physical Switch version. Does anyone know if the game is available in other site aside from Play Asia?
If someone tries this on a Steam Deck, I would really appreciate if you could share your feedback.
Well, the smeared backgrounds don't really stand out to me on my ancient 720p TV so I'm all good.
Is there anyone who hated the battle theme originally finding themselves liking it more with whatever they did to clean up the sound quality? I think the complaints were always more about the weird time signature and repetitive nature of the composition but, just figured I'd ask
Because they're not just an online shop, they're very sensitive snowflakes
I think Square is learning, but part of it also boils down to very specific contexts behind some of these projects. SaGa Frontier got the specific care it did because Kawazu is a long time exec within the company and also had the backing of another major internal exec, along with the good will earned by a very successful mobile title. The same probably goes for Legend of Mana. Chrono Cross was probably never ever going to get the support it needed for a proper remaster of the like that people wanted and a proper remake (which is probably what the game needed all along) would have been way more expensive than they'd probably ever care to do.
Not to mention Radical Dreamers needing entirely new localization work and whatever went into porting it.
Cross was one of the few big ps1 jrpgs I didn't play so first time but it's so bizarre how the framerate will randomly go up to 60 fps in battles(and look good) and then plummet back to 15 for the majority. If it was locked like FF789 I'd get it but this is unpleasantI don't think the slow downs are tied to FPS at all. It runs at a constant 60fps, possible that the animations and camera pans are capped at a certain FPS. Saying it has crappy performance isn't really accurate if the game itself is designed to play like that.
That's basically how the game always played. Not that it *shouldn't* be better, mind.Cross was one of the few big ps1 jrpgs I didn't play so first time but it's so bizarre how the framerate will randomly go up to 60 fps in battles(and look good) and then plummet back to 15 for the majority. Walking around is 30 but there's stutter on the camera pans which is also unpleasant

Gimme the details on that spoiler, plz.The updated character portraits really good to look at.
Better than the original in my opinion.
And finally confirmed that Guile is Magus.
There actually was some question before because Kato previously said he wasn't in the end despite the original intent that he wasGimme the details on that spoiler, plz.
I've known that this is generally accepted but I'm curious how the remaster confirms it.
Alright so I'm playing this for the first time, knowing basically nothing about it except the above-mentioned spoiler.
Boy a combat tutorial would be nice lol.
Yeah, it feels very reminiscent of the ps1 version which had stilted and rough animations but otherwise ran just fine. That said I did occasionally suffer from a bit of slowdown when playing the psn version on the Vita, so maybe that has returned in some versions of the game.I don't think the slow downs are tied to FPS at all. It runs at a constant 60fps, possible that the animations and camera pans are capped at a certain FPS. also, some boss battles where the game teaches you other slightly-more advanced battle mechanics as you journey along
It honestly is pretty straightforward once you figure out the individual mechanics and then see how the work together. The field affinity stuff also seems pretty similar to what was in Romancing SaGa 3 so that's pretty intuitive to me too.
I think I remember people saying the combat in this was really convoluted but really it feels like people needed to play more experimental JRPGs
Someone did say that but I thought there was a fail safe too..I must have misread something, but you can't steal an item from a boss, run away and steal a second. It says you drop the item when you run, and it doesn't stay stolen.
Am I crazy?
the combat in chrono cross is like an amazingly underexplored creation, because the game is so easy (which isnt a bad thing or anything)
i feel like with some tweaks and making encounters with more challenge it could really achieve greatness
anyway god the fps changing and everything feeling like the controls are lagging behind is so ridiculous lmao
Seems like it was something that got changed, because I used to exploit it to get elemental armor. Maybe it only works in certain circumstances, but Ive updated the OT to reflect it not working. That said, running can still help with stealing if you whiff a steal against a boss.I must have misread something, but you can't steal an item from a boss, run away and steal a second.
