It's probably true (or close to true) based on their internal definitions. You can't really compare rural American poverty to rural Chinese poverty due to the vast differences in standards, costs of living, society, etc. At the very least the average Chinese person is seeing some level of improvement.

The CCP: Our mission is to take action that will trigger a proletariat revolution that will finally see through the vision of Marx.

Also the CCP: We've eliminated poverty with Capitalism!

At what point does the CCP finally admit they're a Nationalist party dependent on Capitalism for their members' status and to maintain power? Why even bother pretending? Its not like they actually have to fear the backlash.

Whoever coined the term "Marxism with Chinese Characteristics" deserves a raise lol.

I actually remember reading an article a while back about the CPC cracking down on legitimate Marxist student movements that were developing around the country. I'm guessing that they don't want to throw Mao and the Communist founders under the bus since they've been trying to build up this idea that the CPC is a divine force that has been fighting to Make China Great Again for the past hundred years.

The national story wouldn't have the same mythical tone to it if they went around saying "well actually, Mao was an idiot and we're now following a new ideology that was born in the early '80s after Nixon flipped us."

"Eliminated poverty" sounds like the perfect phrasing for a monkey paw wish even if Pooh wasn't involved.

"Eradicate" might not be the best choice of words.

"OK, OK; we'll say we exterminated poverty, then.
... wait, not good either? Geez, so sensitive. OK, umm... how about 'genocided poverty'?"

What is the definition of eliminating poverty? Not starving to death?

Technically if you starve to death you're no longer part of the poverty statistics, so...

Did they kill all the rural people?
Don't be silly.
But on other news, I really like this new Chinese product:

It would be nice if true but I'm a little sceptical. Also:

It is a bit odd. Capitalism has worked far better than communism ever did but they still claim to want to go that way. Would they think it's like admitting a bit of a defeat or something?

Of course, according to the CCP the current state of affairs is but a temporary step to the society Marx envisioned. Even though they had to completely betray the ideals of Socialism to do that lol, as other ruling Communist parties have done since 1991 like in Vietnam lol. Although I hear Vietnam has more socialist elements like encouragement of worker cooperatives than China has.

When you push the majority of the population into cities to work in factories, then yeah, I suppose so... in the same way that the Industrial revolution eliminated the same type of poverty when it happened.

I mean it's very easy to "eliminate" poverty when you create the definitions yourself at whatever level is most convenient to you and are willing to abuse that to create a definition that has no real basis in the human condition.

Whether or not it has any truth behind it, I'd at least appreciate if someone went "oh yea, well fuck you, we'll do even better by our lower-classes", but all it's gonna be is "LMAO yea right China, anyways $15 minimum wage is ridiculous and even if Biden had the infinity gauntlet, he couldn't achieve that".

If people really want to throw shade on this statement made by the CCP, then here's hoping governments work to lift up the lower classes!
You are right 100%. I feel the same with alternative fuel vehicles. Why don't people want to be the best? I would be happy to rub it in peeps faces if I was a government leader and can say we have quiet streets and clean fresh air.

This hasn't been the CCP's real mission since the Gang of Four was killed though. They intentionally use capitalism for their own gain e.g. buying US debt to keep Chinese goods prices low. Maybe their official documents say one thing but they did get rid of and killed most ardent Maoists after he died. I'd say it's pretty obvious if not an open secret.

I mean who (Within China) is going to say otherwise?
Authoritarian shit stains like the CCP do what the please, so a big doubt is always the best approach here.

Hasn't China been looming over a huge economic crash using every trick to delay it?
Sounds like it will be back whenever that happens.

100mi in China is totally doable, Lula lifted over 30M in Brazil (China is at least 5 or 6 times bigger), and China has an even bigger growth in GDP than Lula's Brazil had.

Has the CCP really been protecting NK because they wanted to prototype their end goals, instead of as a buffer?

Cause they're acting like that's the case.

Really weird thread. I know it's China and all, but it's not like this came out of nowhere. The world has been watching China modernize for the past 50 years now. In the lifetime of a boomer, life expectancy in that country has literally doubled itself. 95% of the population has free, accessible basic healthcare compared to the 20% in 2000. It's not all some accounting trick and smokes and mirrors. Hundreds of millions of lives got appreciably better in a relatively quick time.

Whether or not it has any truth behind it, I'd at least appreciate if someone went "oh yea, well fuck you, we'll do even better by our lower-classes", but all it's gonna be is "LMAO yea right China, anyways $15 minimum wage is ridiculous and even if Biden had the infinity gauntlet, he couldn't achieve that".

lol, reminds me of this NYT article
www.nytimes.com

The American Dream Is Alive. In China. (Published 2018)

Imagine two poor 18-year-olds, one in the U.S., the other in China. Who has a better chance of success? Are you sure?
