How we doing guys? Everyone keeps saying in March things are going to start up again with the kids back at school.

I have an unrelated question if someone can give me some advice:

I have a full time job but i also do programming and web design freelance on the side. I was told i should do it with boleta so I have done that since july of last year. So I have been emitting boletas a honorarios with the "receptor de la boleta retendiendo el 10.75%" option checked. So does that 10.75% come back to me when I do my taxes in april? If I work full time AND freelance could I be put in a higher tax bracket possibly and be asked to actually PAY BACK money to the government? If so, what is that amount? I have no idea of doing taxes here in Chile and April will be my first time doing them and wouldn't mind getting a tax return like I normally did in Canada lol.

Also, in canada I did my taxes every year. I worked a full time job and always got a tax return. I have never done taxes here in Chile my years of working contracted jobs. Did I not have to because I never worked emitting boletas? If I make for example 400.000CLP a month at a contracted job lets say, do I have to do my taxes?

Sorry for the long winded question but I'd hate to get any surprises this year with the boleta issue and the years of never doign taxes here like in Canada.

Hey! I'm pretty good. March heating up it's pretty much a given, but we'll see how it goes. I doubt we'll see another 18/O (unless there is a fraud at the plebiscite), but marches will come strong, that's for sure.

As for your questions, I'm not really well in the known, but as far as I know, working contracted jobs means you don't have to make your taxes unless you have real state and shit like that.

www.rankia.cl

Impuesto Global Complementario 2023: tabla, cálculo y ejemplos

I live close to Plaza Dignidad so I'm pretty fucked up.

I think you'll probably be fine. Check the global complementario table.

Thanks guys!

Damn cant tell you how much this info helped me. I have asked so many people and maybe youd be surprised or maybe not that most people dont know anything when it comes to taxes and stuff here lol At least not my friends my age.

I asked a friend today and still had doubts so i said whatever I am going to ask the guys at ResetEra since you guys have never failed me!

So to clarify, if i am under the IGC amount for example of 7.833.600 for the year (thats bruta right?) with my contracted work and my boletas, then i dont owe anything and should actuallt get a return? If i am over that amount for the year I may have to pay money back?

I may have a few more questions come tax season in a month or so!

Also i am not trying to avoid paying taxes for the record or anything here, just trying to understand because it is long overdue lol.

if your income is under that amount you should receive back at least then amount that was withhold in your boletas (Spanglish galore!) Over that amount, the withhold amount pay whatever you owe and if there's anything left it goes back to you.
I've only know one guy that has paid taxes and he didn't pay much, so I wouldn't worry if I were you.

Just accept whatever the SII proposes, it's the easiest system at the end of the day!

You also need to understand the tax is progressive so you only get taxed at that rate for the money above that level.

It wan't a easy end of year, that's for sure.

I'll probably wait for may/june for vacation, I don't have kids, so no need to go out now. Santiago's transport is relatively decent in summer, when it isn't collapsed, so I try to enjoy it while it lasts.

It was a very difficult end of the year for everybody.

I think that mid-year is the best for vacations, but the gf has them by the end of the month, so I'll take a week with her. The rest will be saved for the rest of the year, speally to fix the damn three day fiestas patrias.

Thanks again. Think I understand it now. Yeah I have never paid an accountant to do my taxes in my life so i will just accept the SII proposal without thinking twice.

I am on vacation until first week of march. I am almost hesitant to even go back if things get bad again. And instead just dedicate myself to working freelance full time and never leaving my house lol.

I'm actually more concerned about Convención Constitucional vs Convención Mixta.

I just learned yesterday that there is a group of people telling that Convención Mixta is 50% women and 50% men to misguide the vote.

If Convención Mixta wins, everything goes to shit

NinTecno - Asus|MSI|EVGA|Aorus|Xiaomi|OnePlus|Nubia|Rog Phone - NinTecno

Toda la tecnología que buscas esta en NinTecno. Las mejores marcas, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Realme, Asus, MSI, EVGA, AMD, Nvidia, Celulares, Tarjetas gráficas.
You think for the price difference between the nokia 4.2 and the redmi 8 it is worth it? I can get the nokia for $95.000 ($80k if i had the ripley card!)

So about $40.000 more for the redmi.

Nokia is nice for the pure android experience. The big ass battery on the redmi is tempting and correct me if im wrong but the rest of the specs seem similar between the two? I am hesitant to go bigger than 6 inches too. With my 5.7 inch huawei as it is i find it big in my pocket.

Nokia phones are really good. They lost their way when they tried to have their own OS, but since they accepted defeat and use Android, they have focused in what they always were known for: quality hardware builds.

Thanks guys. I think I will try and go Nokia or Moto to be honest. Id buy the G7 power or one of the nokia 4.2 to 7.1 phones. The 7.1 looks to have everything for me personally. But 50k more than I wanted to spend and not sure if the jump from 4.2 to 7.1 is noticable in everyday use.

G7 power was 100k not long ago and now suddenly hard to find in stores.

I also do not get cell phone models names nowadays. So damn confusing. The nokia 7.1 is older than the nokia 4.2? And runjing android 8? But seems to be better specs? There just seems to be way too many models.

You think Nokia's confusing?
The Xperia line got to the Z5, then restarted with the XZ line, then went to simply numbers (Xperia 1, Xperia 5, etc).

But in general I agree, phone naming sucks nowaday.

The whole nokia thing of adding decimals to their phones too is ridiculous lol.

I went out in search of a phone today and i swear if you dont have a CMR tarjeta in this country you are missing out. Its so stupid the price difference. Some shit will be $300.000 and dropped to half price if you pay with CMR. Bullshit. They inflate the regular price to make it seem like a good deal.

Though, the CMR price is sometimes cheaper than the average market price of the product so it can be a decent deal. For example when i bought a fridge, the CMR price was $15.000 cheaper than anywhere on the market. Even lider. I dont have a card myself i just use a friends since i almost never shop at falabella since its so overpriced.

It has, because most people that buy in cuotas with CMR are not the most reliable payers. People that have better credit score/higher income to pay go straight to banks.

That said, having retail credit cards is useful for sales and that kind of stuff. I bought a phone in Falabella over the weekend with the CMR, but if you pay before they process the invoice for the month, you don't have to pay the monthly administration charge, so you get all the benefits without the negatives.

Yeah, some sales are actually really good... but nah, I think it's better to resist the temptation while I can. I'm ok with the cards I have for now. Though sometimes, or for concerts and stuff, you really look at them and start thinking what if...

Its my opinion, but when people have issues with cards, it isn't the cards fault, its a mix between the person's lack of impulse control to not buy useless junk they don't need and the society which promotes consumerism.

I've got the CMR, alongside my bank card, but only use it when there's a sale on something I truly need (like my phone since the previous one just decided to not turn on in the weekend). If not I use my bank CC, but in the same condition. Oh, and I don't buy in cuotas either. Either I have money to pay upfront or whatever it is can wait - CC is mostly to game the system, earn points in whatever fidelity program it has and maybe help offset the cost of vacations of get a nice giftcard down the road.

My rule is to never buy something I can't pay upfront, I pay in cuotas to not be short of cash, with a monthly limit way below the credit itself, etc... It's easy to go in a hole of debt, so yeah, you need to have a system you do respect.

Speaking of useless junk, has anyone ever bought a good comfy chair for pc that can recommend one?

Agreed, also forces me to never give those people any money. I avoid all big retail as much as possible.

I bought my current phone from one of those places that import Asian phones. I paid like 100k less in comparison to what other stores wanted me to pay for the same phone and it has worked well ever since. It's a viable alternative in my opinion!

On a completely different topic, has anyone been to Lollapalooza? I bought a one day ticket so I could see Guns N' Roses, but I will go there after work and I have no idea how the whole thing works. I'm pretty aware that after the recent events, there is a chance the event might get cancelled, so I'm also afraid I won't be able to get a refund since I'm only going there for one band and this is considered a festival.

The rule i live by with credit cards is to use it like a debit card. Pay it off immediately. If you dont have the cash in your savings, don't put it on credit. Using a credit card is a means to reap whatever rewards associated with that card, and build a good credit name for yourself. Most people are not like that though, or lucky enough that when they have an emergency they dont have any other choice but to put it on credit with cuotas.

I love xiaomi phones and would buy one from aliexpress (i bought a lenovo from aliexpress years back while in canada) and never had a problem. If you aren't in a rush it is a good alternative. Things from aliexpress are hit or miss though so do your research.

I went to to lollapalooza once here and it was pretty fun. Prices are insane though now. They added an extra day but its way overpriced unless by some miracle you land an early bird ticket. I seriously doubt it gets cancelled unless shit really hits the fan but even then the money has been spent so itd be a massive loss for organizers. I wouldnt worry personally. And of course they'd have to refund you, no? Sounds illegal if they didnt.
