I acknowledge that this is partly driven by Islamaphobia but that's not the sole reason. The US will support anyone as long it serves their interests (see Saudi Arabia).

I'm not sure what your mean by "we" wrt treatment of Muslims in our backyard. There's a wide spectrum of people in the US, many of whom display varying levels of bigotry. The current government's policies and rhetoric has unfairly targetted Muslims, causing an upswing in anti-Islam beliefs but that doesn't mean I think everyone in the US is an Islamaphobe. There is certainly a need for deeper reflection on how such public discourse which perpetuates discrimination and hate is considered acceptable and needs to be addressed as it has lead to violent incidents targetting Muslims.
