I don't think anyone necessarily had it before, but more that there wasn't a record at all.

I can't imagine if there's anything else comparable. Honestly surprised there isn't more than 100 at this point, I wonder if they count ports like NSMBU Deluxe and other spinoffs that probably just grab voice clips from a massive bank?

I'm still happy that was able to go to a panel he held at a con once, he seemed like a real nice guy.

I think the only thing that might be close is maybe Goku and dragon ball games.

Long live the king! He's as significant a performer as Carroll "Big Bird" Spinney.

100 Mario games. Crazy. Congrats Charles!
If all the Skyrim ports counted as separate games he'd probably win for that too...

Congratulations, Mr. Martinet!

Do we know if he'll be voicing Mario for the animated movie? His representation is pretty iconic, so even if his name isn't well-known outside of gaming circles, I think people would be thrown off if his voice isn't the one that Mario has.

Recording for the movie would be a nice evolution of his Mario career.

He should be honoured at the next TGAs.

I like this idea.

How many games have there been where he's voiced Mario but hasn't also voiced Luigi?
Julien Bardakoff voiced him in a few of the early N64 era games (Mario Kart 64 Japanese release, Mario Party 1 and 2, Mario Kart Super Circuit).

If he doesn't that's some straight-up bullshit. He's done lengthy dialogue as Mario before.

It's kind of easy when you're voicing a handful of lines each time for the most popular videogame character in the world. I imagine it won't ever be topped. I bet he could do 50 or 100 more.

Does he actually record new lines for every game? How many times does he need to step into a studio and say "Wahoo"?

Wow, that's a huge milestone -- and Charles is a wonderful human being who deserves all the congrats. I'm kinda surprised this was never mentioned at all during the development and promotion of Smash Ultimate, it's a big deal.

It's going to be so weird when he retires and someone else has to play Mario

He'll certainly be missed when that day comes, but I'd bet they'll do like Disney's done with Mickey Mouse (who, I believe, was one of Martinet's inspirations for the voice) and just cast folks who basically emulate what he did. I don't think we have to worry about Mario getting a "new" voice, though one day there may be a new actor.

WarioWare Gold was awesome in how much voiced dialogue he had to do for it.

Amazing! This guy gave such an amazing contribution to Mario's character! I clearly remember the joy it was to play Mario64 with his voiceover.
Really remarkable and well deserved!

That's much less than I thought
Well, he didn't start voicing Mario until just before the N64 era in an educational spinoff, so he missed a lot of the early stuff. He's probably voiced Mario in just about every game he's appeared in since, but 100 games is a lot even if you are Mr. Video Game himself.

How so? Reuben Langdon, who has voiced Dante for 13 years now, has about a dozen total appearances. Taking a look at a more mainstream character like Nathan Drake, Nolan North has maybe six appearances as the character in twelve years (5 mainline titles and Playstation All Stars). Going outside the realm of gaming, Robert Downey Jr. has ten appearances as Tony Stark in just as any years. I can't think of one character or actor who approaches they level of Mario or Martinet.

I think it's just that Mario has been in more than 200 games so hearing that the's only voiced him 100 times is kinda shocking.

I've never really known the first thing about this guy, so it's cool to read so many posts saying he's a wonderful person. Always nice to see.

Okay, cool. Now how many of those games had him actually record new dialogue for them?

Is there a list of what the 100 are? Would be interesting to see.

Congrats on the milestone to Martinet.

He seems a cool guy, congrats!

Also, what's the story I read around, about him yelling "Wahoo" and Mario stuff while drying his hands in a restroom at some event?
Is it true?

Gonna need to see some receipts.

100 sounds like too many. I sure as shit can't list 100 games with Mario's voice in it. There's only so many main games, sports games, etc he's in.

And for Ultimate to coincidently be his 100th? What?

I THINK IT'S A CONSPIRACY.
