NEW:

- 531 new COVID cases in Alberta on 10,200 tests (5.4%+)
- 779 in hospital (-31), inc 185 in ICU (+1)
- 12 new COVID deaths reported in Alberta

#Yeg #Yyc #ableg #covid19ab

I was tied up with work yesterday and forgot to post an update yesterday. Alberta had 650ish new cases yesterday and 10 new deaths. The numbers are a bit higher than what we have been seeing in the past week or so. I hope this is the worst of the "Thanksgiving spike" here.

Over 750 cases in BC. Fraser Health close to half of it. Thanksgiving effect? We're now the worst province on daily in Canada.

Not a great Friday. Looks like AB is kinda floating around the 500-600 daily case mark for now. At least we are slowly seeing the hospitalizations decline.

Cases still dropping so that's nice. I haven't actually compared the numbers but I think the decline is slowing a bit?

I went for lap swimming indoors for the first time since the pandemic started. They didn't even bother to do more than check if I had a QR with their eyes to let me in. So far I've only seen the actual vax pass get checked properly, at the movie theatre. I would expect the city of Ottawa to be better than a private company but whatever :/

Hey Folks,

Hope everyone is safe and well.

Had a quick question. Does anyone know how to go about changing the poll, after it's been in place for a while? I want to do another one, and can't seem to edit the current options out, to be replaced with new ones.

Thanks

Salut Morrigan - Can you help? Merci

EDIT: Apologies for the mistaken assumption, as well.

Wait, what happened?

I have been out of the thread for a bit, so am I missing something?

EDIT: Just noticed Morrigan is no longer a Mod? 😲

I didn't realize I had mistaken Morrigan's gender either. My apologies. I never actually asked, so shouldn't have assumed. We normally call each other Comrade, like many others here, so it never came up.

Yup, quit last month lol

.Detective. You can probably report your OP and ask for the poll to be taken down. After that I think you can edit your OP and go to the ... (More options) menu and then Create Poll to make a new one?

The Woods is the only Canadian staff that I know of.

Thanks! Much appreciated 🤝

Also, hope you are enjoying the retired Mod life. This year has gone by so quick, can't believe November starts tomorrow.

2020 felt much longer compared to the pace of 2021.

Beautiful Province of Quebec.
I am going for my regular Flu shot this Wednesday,in a Jean Coutu(pharmacie) guess I'll asks about the Booster shot as well...probably through Clicsante in QC.

Oh and it was bound to happen...my Landlord, who has 2 boys(13 and 9),one of them got Covid so all 4 of them now have it...he texted me last week to tell me,I immediatly when to get tested and I am negative...his 9 year old must stay confined for 10 days, his oldest was doubled vaxxed so he is ok as long as he tests negative...as of today,2 out 4 are negative and only his wife has mild symptoms.

Still a little scary to know Covid is right in the Triplex....got to be extra careful.

Still waiting on Alberta's weekend numbers. The big news today is the province has finally achieved 80% fully vaccinated status for eligible Albertans.

Took a while to get there but I guess vaccine passports work. Who would have known? Let's keep it up!

3,325 health care workers were let go because they refused to get vaccinated, 1100 in Interior Health. I'm sure that super helps. Idiots.

-4,668 active cases (-314)
-31,722 vaccines administered (13,505 2nd dose), and 85.3% of eligible people are fully vaccinated

-active cases lowest since August
-no test data today because the dashboard didn't update--don't know the positive percentage with tests re how low the cases seem to be <_<

Lots of restrictions removed in Québec on Nov. 15

(Masks in high school due to high vaccination rates; telework; dancing in bars (but with masks); karaoke, etc.

www.lapresse.ca

Please please don't mess up Christmas.

Cases are already going up again and we'll clearly see a situation like last year.

A small increase, a long plateau and an explosion as we get closer to the holidays.

Doesn't sound like Health Canada will authorize the 5-11 shot before the end of the November honestly. They kept saying they expect this group to have their first show by Christmas?

Our local health unit has stated that they are prepared to have the capacity to vax everyone in that age group in 4 weeks. I'm not going to be super keen on having an normalish xmas celebration without my kids being vaxed with at least a dose tbh.

NEW:

- 8 new COVID deaths reported in Alberta
- 315 new cases on 7544 tests (4.2%+)
- 691 in hospital (+2), incl 159 in ICU (+2)
- 6911 active cases (-669)

Good numbers today here in AB.

City council strengthens threshold for lifting mandatory mask rules

Nearly two months after reinstating Calgary's mandatory mask bylaw , city council has changed the threshold for when it can be lifted.

Face coverings are currently mandatory in publicly accessible indoor spaces as part of both a provincial mandate and municipal rules. When council restored the city bylaw in early September, it came with a set expiration date: either by the end of the year, or when the city's COVID case rates stay lower than 100 per 100,000 population for 10 days in a row.

But on Monday evening, council voted 12-3 in support of bumping that up to 28 consecutive days. Councillors Dan McLean, Sean Chu and Andre Chabot were opposed.

A city official told council that on Friday, Calgary's active COVID case rate was 99 per 100,000 population, which started the 10-day countdown to repeal the bylaw. If cases followed the same trend in the coming days, the bylaw would have expired just before Remembrance Day.

The provincial mask rules could still be in place at that point, but without the municipal bylaw, city peace officers would no longer be able to enforce the rules.

Coun. Kourtney Penner said changing the trigger for repeal is wise given that Halloween just happened, and there needs to be time to assess how gatherings for that holiday could affect COVID rates in two or three weeks' time.

I'm glad new city council here in Calgary made a sensible decision. I really don't want to deal with another wave right before Christmas.

Wow, it's been a while since Québec had the highest number of cases in the country. That's good news for Alberta and BC! Hopefully everyone can keep it together until Christmas...

BC Update:

+406 cases
+5 deaths
-445 in hospital (+9)
-137 in ICU (-3)
-?? tests administered (still not updating the dashboard!)
-4,694 active cases (+26)
-13,009 vaccines administered (6,736 2nd dose), and 85.4% of eligible people are fully vaccinated

-7 day moving average is down to 532
-though, I CAN'T TELL what our positive percentage is because they haven't updated the dashboard since October 29 lol. So WHO KNOWS, maybe we only did 1000 tests each day and the low numbers are actually 406/1000 positive! I have no idea! lol, I highly doubt this, but they could be artificially low. SHRUG

AB and BC seem to be in a bit of a downswing... hopefully we don't do something stupid and remove masks soon! -looks at BCPH and DBH-

I want to believe that every health care worker that has been fired because of this was also a sub-par employee , so that it's kind of a net-positive in 2 ways.

Oh absolutely. My "idiots" was to the people who were let go haha, if that wasn't clear. They absolutely should get the boot and I'm glad the province didn't pull punches on that!

I have no idea how these doctors can come out with a license out of this, look at these takes, FFS.

They'll all get a slap on the wrist and continue raising money through their sketchy means and vaccine passport purchase website. I hate people so much. In a just world, these people get their licences pulled and the exemptions get revoked based on records and testimony. But we don't live in that world.

So DBH called that out and has extended mask mandate. I doubt she'll remove that any time soon.

I blame her for the awful decisions and slow response in the summer, but since then, I've been happy with "no exceptions" DBH / Adrian Dix.
