So, have we all been drinking/consuming more weed in lockdown?

I was early on as a crutch but starting to slowly taper back down as it's not healthy long term

Drinking way less simply because it hasn't been worth the trouble to buy anything. Happened to be near a huge low-traffic LCBO yesterday though, grabbed some scotch in case I feel like it. But actually haven't touched alcohol in a month. Probably a good sign that waiting in any sort of line whatsoever is enough for me to consider it too much of a hassle.

or they don't spread it at all. Both things have reports saying that it is the case.

Don't get angry at TVA or you'll die of a heart attack in a week. They are infuriating on every subject.
Of course children spread it. They don't stop being germs because they were coughed out of a child and not an adult.

TVA is more or less Fox News light. When the pandemic started they had a special on LCN about it and what should the country do and instead of having epidemiologists, doctors and people with relevant experience they went with Mathieu Bock-Côté as their expert lol.

Depends on what the bottom of your planter looks like. In this case I was meaning to cut holes through the plastic (6mil vapour barrier style plastic is what I've used before) to ensure it drains properly rather than drowning your flower bed/garden. Either way without plastic I would ensure if the bottom is plywood that there are holes in it to allow for drainage. If the bottom is made of dimension lumber then there will likely be gaps between the boards anyway so drainage wouldn't be a concern.
Ah right. The bottom will be the ground, I'm building box because my yard only has 6 inches of good dirt before it becomes mostly rocks. I will had 18 inches of dirt.

Saskatchewan's plan being shown:

Phase 1, set to begin on May 4, will see restrictions lifted on certain medical practices alongside a focus on outdoor recreation:

  • Medical services including dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, opticians, podiatry, occupational therapy and chiropractic treatment.
  • Facilities to accommodate low-risk outdoor activities, like boating and fishing.
  • Online reservations for campgrounds, which are then to be opened on June 1.
  • Golf beginning May 15.
Phase 2, set to begin May 19, will include the opening of retail businesses and personal services not initially allowed under Saskatchewan's state of emergency. Businesses are expected to continue practicing physical distancing and implement screening measures if physical distancing is not possible.

  • Clothing stores, sporting good stores, vaping supply shops, book stores, jewelry stores, boat and ATV dealerships, accessory stores, music stores, electronic stores, pawnshops and travel agencies.
  • Personal services include hairdressers, registered massage therapists, acupuncturist and acupuncturists.

Phase 3, to be enacted at a date still to be determined, will see the reopening of the remaining personal services and a relaxing of the restrictions on public gatherings:

  • Aestheticians, tattoo artists, cosmetologist, electrologist, manicurists, pedicurists, sun tanning parlours, body piercing, bone grafting or scarification services, and other personal service providers.
  • Restaurant and food services, to operate at 50 per cent capacity.
  • Gyms.
  • Childcare centres.
  • Licensed establishments.
  • Restrictions on public gatherings increased to 15.

Phase 4, on a a date also yet to be determined, will see further openings:

  • Casinos, bingo halls, curling rinks, swimming pools, municipal parks and playgrounds, movie theaters, museums and similar facilities.
  • Seasonal programming like camps, recreational activities and athletic activities.
  • Restrictions on public gatherings increased to 30.
Phase 5, which Premier Moe said will be dependent on things like case count, will include the lifting of long-term restrictions.

This has me very concerned.

It actually seems reasonable (and I live in SK). The key thing will be monitoring though, and locking things down again should cases begin to increase. One thing I wish they would have included in phase 2 (re-opening of some businesses) would be mandatory face masks for anyone in public. Glad to see that there are no dates announced for phase 3 and onward (restaurants re-opening, etc). Also glad to see they are keeping the 10-person gathering max for the foreseeable future.

That's a cautiously good plan, although I'd personally push retail out a bit further along with outdoor activities and campgrounds.

Honestly, I think that's a very reasonable plan for Saskatchewan. They're one of the least hit provinces, and it's still almost a month away before retail is really opening up. Essentially the only change for the next 30 days is opening up medical facilities and highly individual outdoor activities like fishing.

These aren't large gathering events, and things like dentists and physio are still things people need that they haven't had access to. It seems very cautious and reasonable for phase 1 to me. Phase 2, with the retail kick off, is maybe still a bit presumptuous, but I think phase 1 is definitely good for testing the waters in reopening.

Now if that was for Quebec or Ontario, I would say it's too early, but I think the phase 1 outline of what to start with still seems pretty reasonable.

Edit:
OMG. Legault wants to speedrun it, confirmed. He aims for herd immunity (he's currently explaining it in his presser)

This, on the other hand, sounds ridiculous and potentially catastrophic. I'm not watching and so didn't catch his actual words, but we don't even know if people become immune to COVID at this point. There is no evidence that herd immunity is an effective strategy, and it sounds like a terrible idea to use our heaviest hit province as the test environment to find out.

Mentioned earlier but there's been a minor spike in cases in BC related to a chicken processing plant and workers coming in even though they were sick. Of course the reason is because there are no paid sick days and people need the money to pay rent and survive.

I'm irritated because this is such a weak response from the government. There are no mandatory paid sick days in BC. They had to have known that this would happen. There's too many shit head business owners for the 'honor system' to work, and I don't feel simply talking with business is going to have any substantial impact.

Government wants words with businesses about sick pay after poultry plant outbreak

B.C. Premier John Horgan said government would speak with employers who are not providing sick pay, after several people with COVID-19 were found working at a poultry processing plant in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside

"We can't have people putting others at risk for fear of economic consequences for themselves," said Horgan, referring to the 27 workers who were tested positive on the job on Monday. The testing was done after a co-worker at United Poultry was found to have COVID-19 and told health workers that several people at the plant were also showing signs of respiratory illness.

There has been a COVID-19 state of emergency in B.C. since March 26 and the government has made many calls for people not to work while sick.

Horgan said a basic mandate of WorkSafe B.C. right now was that no one should be sick at work.

"We're going to have to have a dialogue across sectors to those areas who don't provide sick pay for their employees," he said.

"We did bring in some changes to employment standards to make sure people wouldn't lose their job for not coming to work. … But I think obviously, the lesson I learned (in the United Poultry outbreak) is that workers were coming to work because they were fearful they would lose wages and not be able to meet their expenses."

Employers in B.C. are not required to provide sick pay.

....

I have to imagine that Horgan is playing a bit naive here. It is a minority government and maybe they didn't think they had to votes to put forward the necessary regulations that would properly protect workers.

Hopefully this incident will give the government the kick in the pants they need to bring in paid sick days across the board.

You're the NDP, ostensibly a 'socialist' government, your raison d'etre is to protect workers. Come on be bold.

I m pretty sure he ll aim at a similar plan as Saskatchewan for opening. Its not full blown herd immunity like uk tried in the beginning with everything open . As he says it will be gradual and protect 60 year old and o er. Gradual Herd immunity is the same plan all european countries are starting to implement too. I don't see any other option except full lockdown for a couple of years and full collapse of the society

Last night the star said peel was now including probable or presumptive cases as positives so it spiked their numbers, maybe that's why they are so high today

Thanks for the update. Seems we're still climbing, unfortunately. And that's without doing as much testing as we should. The numbers are probably higher.

OMG. Legault wants to speedrun it, confirmed. He aims for herd immunity (he's currently explaining it in his presser)

I don't think he will speedrun it though. Our healthcare system could barely handle a sub 10% infection rate in the first place and he obviously saw this firsthand. He's trying to convince people that they will have to get out eventually but he's still sugar coating it. Next week he'll reveal the plan then it will start the week after probably.

The journos asked Arruda about the % infection rate required for herd immunity and he said if R0 is around 5 like currently reported you need 80-85% infection rate which is huge.

It's not going well at all on overall cases. He keeps saying we reached a peak. It seem more like a plateau than a peak so far as the number are steady and don't come down.

Yep. Just the bit he mentioned yesterday about schools has already pretty much ensured a long drawn out battle with multiple unions who will be risking their members lives in the next few weeks.

We don't need full lockdown for years, and the "full collapse of society" is a very hyperbolic statement at best, and there is a lot of middle ground between lockdown for years and opening everything back up again now. I think what most of us who are pushing for more time are saying is that we only get one chance to do this properly and if we do it wrong the virus is going to spread like wildfire again, so we'd rather that the government who represents us be cautious and put the people first at this point in time. The economy is already damaged and will need a lot of time to repair, no sense of rushing people back to work too early to try and save a couple of percentage points.

In addition to that, we know that the disease is absolutely ravaging our elderly right now who are all in care facilities and if we don't reopen correctly we will also be risking our elderly who aren't in facilities as well, not to mention the immunosuppressed or people susceptible to respiratory infections. It's all well and good to risk other peoples lives for some, but when one of those lives is that of my wife because she works in the school system for about a month of education (and mine, since she'll likely be bringing home COVID-19 if she ever got it) your damned right I want to make sure we are being extra vigilant here.

Oh most of the under 60 will have to catch it and get sick at some point. Which is a realistic point of view as long as not everyone is sick all at once. Thats where the gradual opening comes into plan. And yes thats what he has been asking , for people to face their fears and contribute in the society like grocery workers, fast food employees doctors, nurses, all essential workers do everyday. Its not a fun realization but its what needs to be done... sadly. And it won't be easy for people at risk ... they ll be very lonely for the next couple of years because they have to be exposed as little as possible

Yepyepyep.
I am compiling the numbers myself and the slope going up isn't slowing down - it didn't reach a plateau. It takes one person to infect a whole school or hospital. Like that woman working while being positive in Saguenay: that's asking for trouble.

I'm personally freaking out; I'm in a danger group.

I don't think many people understand the realities of people in danger groups, or people who have to interact with those in danger groups. No one wants to be responsible for infecting someone, much less a loved one, with this complete asshole of a virus.

I do agree that for quebec and ontario its too early to open though . What Iegault wants to do is the thing to do at a close future (months) that said I feel its too early by at least a month. As you have said it doesn't seem we reached a peak, still steady growth. No decline in numbers in hospital so that worries me. I hope you can stay safe , like everyone who is at risk

If this planed started in June instead of May it would be great, maybe Phase 1 should start on May 9th and Phase 2 on June 19th (random date). Otherwise seems fine for our case count. I like that the other phases don't have date with them.
Yeah I agree pushing it back a bit would have been a better way to go about it.
As long as they do monitor the case counts going forward and act accordingly hopefully we continue to do well here. 🤞

Really sucks trying to reach an actually doctor now in this environment, my wife tried for over 6 hours today and must go to the ER as she has the symptoms of a possible blood clot in her leg and it's seemingly impossible to get an ultrasound any other way.

not even sure what the protocol will be for us to do when she gets home....

I understand most of the risk and it stresses me to no avail as well as I m the only help of my 95year old aunt. She ll probably need to stay confined for the best part of 2020 and 2021. So I can imagine we won't have our usual date nights and chit chat for a long time, me dropping groceries won't ever be the same. And I m fearful for people who are immunocompromised . I don't know how to deal , the gradual herd immunity is the solution till vaccine but I understand people disagreeing with the schedule of it, I m no scientist and most of us are not either I m hoping the scientist of the governments know what the risk is by planning to open some things now instead than in 1 or 2 . I ll follow their advice though as I m no expert nor most of us are . And yes I understand what it can mean for my health of the health of my loved ones

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, i agree with you I don't like a rushed approach , i understand the need of getting things back up at the same time I feel its too early by at least a month to use a gradual opening plan but it cannot draw out much more than that. For schools I m partial about it, don't understand why it need to start again before September. They can try their gradual opening with other part of the society. One thing though is they should have the chsld crisis under control before trying to open things and have increase in cases from regular people. Maybe they think they ll have that under control by the time new cases start appearing (in about 3 weeks) as the hot chsld have most of their patient infected already and sadly .

That's actually not that bad, a lot of the responses here seem to think this means that we're not at a peak/plateau, but this week has been a 5.7, 4.7, 4.3, and 5.3 today, we're fluctuating downwards, and ICU is down. Our jump in hospitalizations the other day were from them moving LTC residents to hospitals, and the vent being down is great. Plus if you look at the numbers without Toronto, a lot of communities in Ontario are doing fantastic.

Also 10000 tests a day is great.

Hey, I posted about this in Ottawa subreddit also.
We're moving to Ottawa from Vancouver on May 1st and our plan was to purchase a used car there near our arrival.
However, I've just discovered that every single ServiceOntario location in Ottawa is closed due to the pandemic. How do I register a car or apply for OHIP if the closest location I've found is in some place called Embrun, a 30 minute drive away?

Sounds like a pretty dang expensive Uber to me.
Are we basically just stuck not having a vehicle or health coverage until some of these nearer locations reopen?

I like Saskatchewan's plan. Pushing retail openings 'til after May long is a good idea, but it's still a *bit* too close to that weekend. Should've been in June, I think, or a solid 2 weeks after May long.

Still, Saskatchewan is the least hit province in Canada. Our population is super spread out, and even our two biggest cities (Saskatoon and Regina) have had relatively few cases comparatively to their population.

The weather is finally starting to turn nice in the province, so getting low-risk outdoor activities up and running will be a good idea to keep people's minds off what we're going through, as long as we're smart about it.

Yeah I agree, I just wish we would push it back a week or two. My biggest fear is that people get complacent and engage in riskier behaviors. But so far we have handled it pretty great overall. I think things can go well with this plan.

So... I need advice.. I thought about starting a new topic but don't want to clutter the forum...

Ok so during the initial shut down the company I work Trugreen, a fertlizer/weed spray type company, made everyone work from home if they could and had limited staff in office. I was one of the limited staff and due to my experience waa was given supervisor duties (the work not he position/pay. I agreed to help and did so for a few weeks.. They were considered non essential 3 weeks ago and all the staff was laid off if they couldn't work from home. Aside from 6 of us (me and new employees hired this year) then april 2nd Ford announced the additional shutdown and we were considered non essential..so I went on covid ei.

This week I was told they found wiggle room to be essential. during this entire time other employees are working from home due to covid (I can't due to not having proper unlimited internet) I would have to return to the office. I advised them I was not comfortable doing so in the office environment (technicians are in and out all the time who visit properties to do lawn work) and no one is cleaning the doors...wiping things down aside from the staff responsible for their desks. So they informed me they would be changing my ROE to "leave of absense" I'm not sure if that now effects my ei now..

Ive tried calling service canada but it's been a bitch to get through (wont even keep me on hold). So now I'm scared that iIwon't be able to get any ei...

Thanks, it more frustration that it was not possible to get a teleconference with her doctor or any other doctor to just give a refferal for a DVT check and she could just stay out of the hospital completely

I was able to renew my stickers online. Is it possible to call them or inquire online? I have no idea what their services are like from what you're requesting without going through service ontario.

Welcome to Ottawa. You'll find your complementary beaver tail in the mail in due time. Wash your hands!

I saw before people were looking for masks, saw a place I shop sometimes started offering some.

Gamer Face Masks - FanFit Gaming

Gamer Face masks - Buy 1 We Donate 2. Washable & Reusable. Help Stop the Spread of Covid19 and Look Great Doing it. 19.99 each.

For every 1 purchased 2 are donated, I like the idea of that.

30 dollars after shipping, might still buy one

I ordered one since it's for a good cause

Any coupon codes?

Oh god it charges in US dollars even though they are located in Toronto? :|
