Can we talk about the "Super Straight" BS rampant on TikTok at the moment?

If you've been on TikTok at all recently, you've probably come across videos and/or comments touching on the "Super Straight Sexuality" trend - where Transphobes have come up with a new sexuality to reaffirm their supposed preference for women who are "biologically born women." It's of course framed only from the POV of "straight men," and boys/men on the platform are of course pretty much the only ones parading the bullshit.

This was the case for the "Super Straight" trend. It was originally started by TikTok user Kyle Royce, who made a now-deleted video informing viewers that he had "made a new sexuality." He explained, "now, I'm super straight. I only date the opposite gender, women, that are born women. So you can't say I'm transphobic now because that's just my sexuality."

They've gone as far as to suggest that they're now a part of the LGBTQ+ community. A bunch of people throughout TikTok can be found with icons housing Pornhub colors, which is the hate flag that's being paraded around as the "movement's" symbol. If you're unlucky, you may have had some of these videos come across your FYP. It's straight up some of the most hate filled, weak built bullshit I've witnessed in recent memory. Fortunately it's being dismissed for the transphobic bullshit that it is, but the fact that its as rampant as it is on the platform is disheartening - albeit not all that surprising.

I wouldn't be surprised? I'm just learning about it myself. I kind of ignored it, but the shit kept creeping into my FYP one video at a time - and I'd also see it rampant within a lot of comments for Trans TikTokers

I was originally hesitant on posting it for this reason, and initially decided against doing so yesterday - so if enough people feel that it brings unneeded attention to a hateful movement then I'm not against closing the thread. I felt that it was already widespread enough to warrant discussion, but completely understand if some feel that's not the case or don't see the value in giving it more mindshare than its already gotten.

Yeah its not bad to have as a broader discussion of transphobia. But its tricky cuz you dont want to spread their ideology for them.

oh yeah, this type of tactic is typical of 4chan. They try to damage LGBTQ by trying to legitimize a "sexuality" (usually something like Pedophilia or Bestiality).

Not the exact thing you're describing, but there are people who pride themselves on being "gold star gay" (never been with a woman) or "platinum gay" if you were born via c-section 🤪

It's already kinda problematic, let's not invite even more exclusive labels in the LGBT realm, hah.

Being super vocal about being straight in our heteronormative society has always screamed of insecurity and toxicity, and this just takes to a parodic level. Like, speaking as a guy who so far has only been interested in women, I've never felt strongly about identifying as "straight" cause it's like, the only reason to is if you're secretly terrified that one day you'll realize you might wanna try out some dick. And if that happens, who gives a shit, more fish in the sea.

If it's "I would never date ANY trans person" then yes. Just like it's racist if someone says they'd never date a black/asian/indian/etc. person. It's fine to say you're not attracted to a specific trans person, or a specific person of another race, but to give such a blanket statement across an entire group of people is unacceptable. Obviously it goes to say that if it's a sexuality thing, it's slightly more acceptable. I'd be reluctant to give a gay person grief for saying they'd never date someone of the opposite gender (unless that also discount trans/nb/gnc members of said group).

if the reason they don't want to date someone is specifically because they're trans, that's literally transphobia. the discomfort you feel from their identity is transphobia. it's not a outwardly hateful manifestation (sometimes) but it's transphobia.

Put it this way. You're at a bar, club, social event, etc - and you find someone attractive and/or hit it off with someone. For all intents and purposes, you find this person attractive and/or like them. They disclose to you that they're trans, and now you no longer want to pursue them. You still found this person attractive and/or liked them, but the fact that they're trans - and solely the fact that they're trans - invalidates them in your mind. What would you call that?
