I updated the eshop yesterday and it worked fine, I'm now not able to open it at all, the only way I can stop it is to turn my 3ds WiFi off which then allows me to close the app, but I've restarted the 3ds and the issue just comes back.

okay looks like it's just a issue with my internet I fixed it and can access the internet on the 3ds fine.
What is this take? We should just expect a shop to possibly go down with no announcement just because the console is 10 years old? There are 2021 3DS digital-only releases (they look like unimpressive quick and cheap releases, but still).
Glad to hear it was just the OP's internet. I had an issue with downloading a game on 3DS just last week, apparently my SD card might have corrupted data and needs to be replaced.
It's not a "take", it was a reaction to the article posted above. No, I don't expect that, but that article was saying that was what was going to happen.
