Bluetooth is such a shitty protocol when it isn't like in some controlled environment like a console. Despise it.
Wait for the new Series controller as it promises better latency on bluetooth and it has a lot more qol features than the original (dedicated capture button, and USB-C mainly)
I bought my XB1 controller last month at Walmart and it was $60.I'd wait for the Series variant. You'll have an extra button to potentially remap functions to, as well as a supposedly improved design. As far as price goes, honestly, even Xbox One controllers have been kind of up there in price due to demand, so it's not as though there'll be much of a price difference, anyway.
Yeah the disc dpad in the elite series feels really good but it has a HUGE issue with fighting games and its because its detachable design, hard diagonal presses would detach the dpad from the controller. Having it in one solid piece sounds a lot better as this problem is mainly resolved but still we will have to see how it performs.I would wait for a couple reasons. After using the disc dpad on the elite 2 controlller, I think that new dpad on the series X controller will be better. Also having the grips on the triggers are a nice upgrade too. Only have to wait a month.
Yes get a wireless xbox adapter too. Work so well and you can sync multiple controllers to it for multiplayer.
The XB1 d-pad has been giving me some issues lately with some directions not always registering. Overall it's a great controller but at this point I would wait. Also keep in mind that Xbox controllers have no gyro in case this is something you want to try out.
Nah the Series 2 just isn't worth it. Worst quality control of any controller I've owned in the last decade.
Whatever you do, please, PLEASE get this thing:
Using Xbox controllers via Bluetooth on PC is the most miserable experience you can imagine. Dropped inputs, random FPS drops in-game, disconnects, your controller being forgotten...
This adapter uses 5 GHz WiFi instead, just like the Xbox consoles, and it's perfect.

Yes, the Xbox One and Xbox Series controllers are forwards and backwards compatible with all consoles and with the adapters.Haven't been keeping up with next gen news, but does the new Series X controller work with the XB1 wireless adapter for PC? I have the older bulkier version, not the one pictured if that matters.
I say screw that dongle! I find it overpriced. I've been using my Xbone controller wired for years, better than paying €23 for the dongle + €60 for the controller including a rechargeable battery pack.Whatever you do, please, PLEASE get this thing:

Two broken on arrival here. It's a lottery and therefore not worth it.I can't speak for everyone of course, but mine has been fine so far and I got it day 1. I use it almost daily as well.

This thing is dope. I got one on a whim when they were on sale for $15 and haven't had to worry about that damn micro-USB getting unplugged from the controller. Micro-USB deserves to be usurped by type C, what trash and flimsy input.Whatever you do, please, PLEASE get this thing:

Yes
I think so.
I think the official name for the next-gen Xbox controllers is "Xbox Wireless Controller." (note)For use with the Xbox One Wireless Controller or Xbox Wireless Controller

cross dpads aren't inherently betterThe disc d-pad is such a step back. I will be sticking without the one controllers.
Do you want a dedicated screenshot button, a supossedly better dpad and USB-C?
Uhhh if I had the controller I would just use Steam Input and map it to take a screenshot via Steam lolI didn't even think about how that new button would work on PC and bring up the Xbox game bar.
Well unless the share button on the Dual Sense can do the same thing I might just get the new Xbox controller for my PC.
Yes? People also spend that much on other peripherals like headsets. It's less crazy for an Xbox controller considering to works across generations and is natively supported on PC
Ugh, that's dragging the controller into $85 territory, something I was hoping to avoid
Valve probably does not support it yet because it's brand new. Try this on Steam:So hey, heads up for anybody looking to buy a Series X controller to use with their PC:
I learned the hard way yesterday that both iOS/tvOS and Steam support are currently busted.
Controller works fine with Game Pass titles (and presumably Microsoft Store games) but once you try to launch anything in Steam the controller doesn't function properly. I haven't tried Epic Game Store or anything else yet.
I'm considering returning it for a Xbox One controller, but those are actually somehow more expensive than the Series X controllers by five dollars.
Guess it's just a waiting game at this point. Really putting a damper on this PC Gaming experience.
Valve probably does not support it yet because it's brand new. Try this on Steam:
View -> Settings, then Controller tab, then General Controller Settings.
A blue window will open, make sure "Xbox Configuration Support" and "Generic Gamepad Configuration Support" are unchecked here. I'm not actually sure if Steam detects it as an Xbox controller or a generic gamepad, but disable them both to be sure.
Don't feel bad OP, my $170 Elite 2 controller also doesn't work wirelessly on the OS made by the same fuckin' company either.
I guess I'll give it two weeks or so to be patched and then it's going back to the store. The Xbox One controller may be "worse" but at least it'll work. Bleh.
