I should have created this a while ago since we may get a Direct in a week or so.

Just in case we dont..or that it doesnt fulfill 2020 expectations, this thread might be a good forum for catharsis.

My bucket list for how to manage a potential barren spell until March 2021 (in no particular order):

1. Finish the third stage of the Master Sword Trials in BOTW.

2. Complete the Donkey Kong expansion to Mario and Rabbids.

3. Get into Arms again and see if I can crack its mechanics after a couple of false starts.

4. Complete Mario Kart Grand Prix at 200cc and mirror.

5. Buy and complete new indies (Spiritfarer, a Short Hike, Untitled Goose game, + others)

6. Finish Astral Chain from where I left off.

7. Finish another run of Fire Emblem with the final third house.

8. Buy and complete the Splatoon octo expansion?

9. Replay Xenoblade with a non Shulk main character.

What would your strategy be?

Option A: Open the eShop and choose one of the bajillion (exaggeration) great indie games to play.
Option B: Actually tackle the fucking backlog that i would probably need several years to clear already. Not necessarily Switch only.

I still have a killer backlog of games on there to work on beating but I know that's now everyone(TWEWY, SRR, OT, SRWT, FT, and that's just physical)

I'm deep into FFXIV, so more of that. The latest patch was amazing. If you like story deep RPGs I recommend checking it out.

I will just play one of the many games I still have open from my backlog. I would probably be fine even if everyone stops releasing games for like 2 years.

I like indie games so I really don't feel the shortage everyone else is feeling.

I dunno, I've had no shortage of things to play on my Switch because indies and third parties have been releasing a lot of stuff (and I have a backlog to boot), and this is without counting the other systems

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's only a barren lineup if you only use Switch for first party content. And if that's the case, you're playing third party stuff on another platform. There's no reality in 2020 where there's a game shortage or drought for any player.

If theyreally want a true shortage, they shouldve been back in the wii u days. Only on here i see people proclaim a switch shortage

1) Play games on another platform?

2) Switch gets lots of great indie/third-party titles and retro re-releases

3) There is a big world of non-Nintendo games out there-- I suggest you explore it.

Switch has been just an Animal Crossing machine since March for me and that's fine since the bulk of my gaming time has been on PS4 and PC this year anyway.

Good thread idea.

1. Finish up the BotW DLC
2. Replay Dark Souls while I travel around this summer
3. See if I missed any interesting moons in Super Mario Odyssey
4. Buy and play Zelda: Links Awakening

hopefully we get something new by the time I finish this.

I have a million games on PC, PS4 and Switch. I'll never run dry at my current stockpile rate.

After Xenoblade Chronicles DE (nearing the end now) I'll continue with the sequel and then Torna. Should keep me busy on Switch in combination with lots of smaller games from my Switch backlog.

And then there's the other platforms...

I didn't get the memo that if we don't get a Direct soon, 2021 will be barren. My world is falling beneath my feet.

I'm playing CrossCode, Xenoblade and Paper Mario (which I'm probably gonna drop, as I'm bored out of my mind 12 hours in) at the moment, just bought A Short Hike, I'm interested in Spiritfarer and then there's still Animal Crossing. I wish I had time for reducing my backlog.

The problem with backlogs is that there is a reason it's in your backlog.

Is what I've learned.

I have literally such a large backlog that I don't even notice any shortage. I'm just now starting that Yoshi game and I'm still playing Fire Emblem lol

I'd continue my current strategy. Lending my Switch to my mom so she can play Ring Fit while I play on PS4 or PC.

Or just put the Switch back in its case to keep the dust off. :/

Playing a lot of Tetris and Smash Brothers. This is definitely one of the worst Nintendo droughts in my eyes. I think covid just killed this year for Nintendo. I'm holding out hope that they release at least one new game I want. This might be the only year where I've not purchased a new Nintendo game.

Thanks to Nintendo's shitty strategy of radio silence, I've rediscovered my PS4 and I've been playing a bunch of amazing games for a fraction of a price of a new Nintendo game.

I wouldn't force myself to play it at all, if the thing is barren like this year I would just do the same and let it collect dust while I play elsewhere.

I mean, at this point, wouldn't it be better to just sell your Switch? I feel like there's tons of people on here who have a Switch but either don't really like it at all or seem to have nothing to play. I don't understand keeping a system if you never use it.

Playing throught the Xeno history for the first time. Since I'm obsessed with Xenoblade I owe it to myself. Finished Xenogears and now I'm in the mid game of Xenosaga Episode 1.

There's like a hundred games on my Switch wishlist, I just pick up whatever's on sale that week when I run out of games to play. Last month I picked up Trails of Cold Steel 3 and Warhammer 40K Mechanicus as new releases, they'll last me a while. After that there's been a ton of decent indies recently, Panzer Paladin is top of my list to buy. I've just pre-ordered a copy of Ys Origin too. One of my favourite action RPGs.

Didn't like multiple indies get shadow dropped on tuesday? Why not play one of them?

You don't have to play just Paper Mario: Yet another disappointment and Pikmin 3: What's a Wii U? Broaden yourself beyond Nintendo releases.

I don't get how people have nothing to play. I'm drowning in backlog that includes of games that are over 20 years old.

And that's after giving up on some games I accepted I will never play despite already owning them.

Currently I'm trying to finish Bravely Second on my 3DS, after that I'm picking up Fire Emblem Echoes again. I want to go through my 3DS backlog this year at the very least.

In this order:

Finish off Witcher 3 Blood&Wine DLC
Replay Zelda BOTW base game
Do a 2nd run of Pokemon Shield

If are there is no major games for fall 2020, i'll buy Paper Mario.

A. Continue playing Animal Crossing. It's become an game my family plays together during an trying time.
B. Buy an Just Dance game for the first time in 10 years. I haven't found Ring Fit Adventure in stock. This will be an good game to keep active during the Winter.
