Poison sucks, I must have cast it 30 times and it's never worked once. I expect it on bosses but it never seems to work on bigger enemies either
Poison is situational. I had good success with it pre chapter 2 I think and then the boss fights started having counter:status ailment or immunity. Since it has worked well in certain later fights but it def isn't as strong as pre chapter 2. On normal big enemies poison def is not worth it the fights never last that long.

Yeah the chances of it working is really low it seems, its a big help on some of the bosses when it does trigger though.

On a related note, has anyone figured out what status effects are triggered by which spells for
Red Mage's nuisance passive?

So far I think:
Aero: Sleep and Silence
Thunder: Paralysis
Blizzard: Freeze
But that's all I have so far, not been able to trigger any of the others. I assume Shadow might trigger blindness and dread but I've no idea about Fire, Light or Stone

Where is this damn chest I'm missing in the third city? I can't for the life of me find it and I'm at the top of the tower!

Oh wow, I wasn't aware some jobs are locked behind side quests. I done so many side quests that I think I might just ignore them and focus on the main story before I get burnt out lol.

Game is alright so far.
I've finished up the story in the desert city. That was the first time the story was at least a little bit interesting.
So far the story is very meh. Does it get better?

I've grinded the Freelancer Job before even switching to something else. That JP Up abilities are very useful.
Body Slam can also be quite strong. And foraging is very good.

It's a shame there is so much loading (Before battles, when initiating party chat there is this little hitch before it starts, etc.). Not a deal breaker.
Battles are fun, speed up options should be mandatory in any JRPG as well as the "Repeat" command. It's also cool you don't need to button mash A in battle, you can just keep it pressed.

Just killed the Thief boss in one turn on hard mode. Yup, that's the good ol' Bravely I know XD

Wait, song buffs stack? Does that go for all buffs?!

I don't like grinding in games and I don't like difficulty spikes (hate when 'casual' or 'easy' difficulty options are anything but as well) but the ease at which you can settle in for an hour or so of grinding on 4x speed makes it pretty effortless. I think I love the job system even more now that in BD1 and End Layer.

I think all buffs can stack up to a limit. If you read the descriptions, they read as "5% physical damage increase, up to max 60%".

How did y'all beat
Galahad?
I beat him but it was very resource intensive.

So most story bosses at large actually have nothing to steal the one exception seems to be the Berserker boss. Extremely frustrating inconsistency because I start a lot of fights with a steal setup and it's completely wasted.

It's funny because I tried to steal the Thief boss too, but he didn't have anything lol.

Yeah it's a shame you can't steal from most of the Asterisk holders. There has to be a way to get those snazzy weapons somehow

It took me wayyyy too many failed attempts at using Steal Courage before I actually read the description and noticed that you can only steal BP from enemies that have it banked, it won't work if they have 0 BP

Yeah, they fixed it since I abused it in the first demo to beat the superboss, lol

Surprised few has figured out how disgusting broken thieves are with the godspeed skill. Beastmaster has nothing on Thief
2 Thieves are guaranteed 1 turn boss kills from level 20-25 and onwards with decent passives/gear

So how do the food items that start battle chains work? Do I just use one in the menu and it starts a battle randomly or do I need be fighting a creature that matches the type and use it in battle?

The Martha card is like CRAZY good if the AI lets it live (B'n'd). This card is carrying me against S rank opponents.

You use the item, an your character starts glowing. Nearby monsters of the type will move towards you and display a heart icon. The battle will then automatically be a chain of 2+ battles. The best thing to do is find the monsters you want to farm, then use the relevant food item. You'll still need to move around to get near more of them afterwards.

You use one in the menu and you'll have a visible buff on the field. Monsters of that type will be attracted to you when you find them, and any single monster on-field will begin a chain of 2-5 fights.

Godspeed Strike is so busted, I was very happy to see it return in this one.

Definitely some noticeable chugging at times in docked mode. Switch Pro when?
I think the main problem of this game is the bad asset loading, the game frequently freezes for an instant while is loading some animation/asset. For example, when you exit a city and use the field sword attack for the first time, the game freezes, but using it after that is smooth. Sadly this happens during cutscenes too, so often you see stange pauses, Same with main menu. Switch pro can obviously offer better IQ or framerate, but they should be able to fix the asset loading issue on the current Switch.

For some reason the demo didn't pull me in at all and the visuals had me really turned off on this game. After seeing the reviews I decided to get the game and have been pleasantly surprised by how much I've been enjoying it. Heck since it released I've yet to go back to Persona 5 Strikers and I was having a pretty good time there too.

Do you actually ever have to buy anything in this game? I'm in the second area and I've already found pretty much everything the shop sells by cutting down grass. It means I've got a huge amound of money as well, the 3DS games were the complete opposite

This game is addictive as hell. Really enjoy the moment to moment gameplay, battles are snappy and easy to grind.

Disappointed with the visuals though. I don't even dislike the art, it's just the resolution that makes some backgrounds and characters supper jagged.

Just beat the desert city last night. The Berseker boss required a tiny bit of grinding to get the Thief class one level up but mostly it was a matter of getting a good team setup and making sure to keep an eye on my Bard buffs. Really impressed with the localization, tone is till light but not overly joke-y and the VA doesn't feel overly 'anime-y.' Also the voiced sidquests are generally really sweet and apportion nice character history. Surprised at how much I'm enjoying that side of things.

Quick question, is Adelle's accent supposed to be Welsh? Filthy American here.

She could have a slight Welsh accent or it could be Eastern Europe somewhere, it's hard to tell. I like her voice either way

Yeah, it's very soothing. Her having that smooth, soft-spoken performance is a fun contrast with boisterous Elvis. Really don't have any complaints with the VAs so far.

To which character did you give the white mage class?

I was going with Gloria, but then I saw she has the lowest curative power?

This arrived early so I'm excited to start it up in a few hours! The talk here in the OP has me hyped to dive back into the Bravely gameplay.

The demo has me jonesing for a "old school" jrpg like I played in my younger days. I haven't played one in a long time since my dad gaming time is somewhat limited. Would you people who have played them all recommend this over Octopath? Or another game all together? I grew up on Final Fantasy and I would probably put FFII (american) in my top 5 all time
Got the same tastes (and I'm a 43 father), grew with FF 1 2 3 US. Both games will fix that itch. Both are job based though, more like FFTA but played like an old school jrpg.

In some reviews / impressions I read that people were getting wiped after 30+ min of doing a dungeon. Is that mostly avoidable by playing on Casual? I'm not looking for a super hard challenge, min maxing stuff, etc. A breezy but occasionally strategic JRPG seems great, but want to avoid the huge difficulty spikes & wipes.

I'm not sure what such reviews would be talking about. Save points are generous, and there are teleportation points to and from the ends of dungeons. You aren't going to lose progress if you wipe to a boss.

You can play on Casual. It's very fast and easy to farm JP to master jobs at your leisure. And there's any number of broken job combinations at any point in the game to minimize difficulty if that's what you're after.

Yeah, I'm working on a review and I won't be mentioning such a problem at all. Save points are quite generous.

I might get this eventually, but I have a question. Does this game still have the customization of the previous games where you can set encounter rate etc? I loved that about Bravely Default because it allowed you to choose when you want to grind and when you want to just get through a dungeon without being stopped every 5 to 10 seconds.
